      I threw together a P bass build a few years ago. EMG Geezer Butler PU & Wilkinson hardware. The thing was a beaut! sold her in favour of a 5er but I still think about how much fun it was to customize my own bass. I love Fender style instruments for just that reason. Don't like something about it? swap it out, make it unique, have some fun with it!

    I love that headstock! It reminds me of Peavy’s headstocks.

    You possess most excellent and endearing energy, Patrick. Out of the plethora of low sonic frequency denizens on RUclips, I enjoy watching you play the most. Your passion is eminently palpable and boy, do you get those strings quaking (your playing would undoubtedly trigger a seismometer to shake its fundament).
    Many thanks for always educating and entertaining your cyber clan. Qapla'!

    I really love the style of this bass! To me, having a completely beat up bass in this "girls color" playing rock or metal is screaming "no f's are given about what others think, ima gonna rock this!"

    I always feel like the sole difference between basses is that higher quality pickups have a more defined the sound is (as in less compressed / muddy). Too much coil turn -> muddy / too little -> too quiet / too much with a preamp -> muddy. I think that putting a good set of strings on a cheap bass with good enough pickups (I'm thinking Wilkinson range) yield 99% what that type of bass does. BUT I think Fender is a good company and we should encourage them Finally I think that Harley Benton introducing non-endangered wood for fingerboard is super cool!

    I love the whole kit build idea. I just delivered a short scale p bass to my niece, it's her first. she was overjoyed

    I did a diy Jazz Bass build. It's such a satisfying experience putting together your own instrument from parts. Couldn't find a suitable "F..." that really impressed me for years. Found an All Parts 70s neck on ebay for a really good price, so the project was on its way. Unfortunately the whole project was more than 10 times the price of the HB kit: original Fender USA body, Nordstrand PUs, Gotoh Hardware... It's pretty close to a Geddy Lee JB. Not quite what I was intending at the beginning but after all it's an impressive sounding unique vintage Jazz Bass that's one of a kind. It was really worth the money and the effort.

    Man that distorted tone was insane for the price. Kind of has a Flea Jazz sig vibe with the pink/tort/roadworn aesthetic. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun though.

      Everything in the video is the Cory Wong Neural DSP Plugin! The cool, crazy effect is the reverb effect on the plugin with the "Shimmer" setting on!

    Cool bass, Patrick! 😎🤘🏻🎸 I have diy bass kit myself. Only mine is virtually identical to a schecter stiletto. I’m looking forward to working on it real soon.

      Update: I’ve been working on the bass kit for about a couple weeks and everything is looking phenomenal. From the finish to the hardware. The only thing left is to install the electronics.

    So is HB made in a factory in East Asia like all the rest? Like in the same factory with all the rest?
    I guess if you like the neck, and can throw in any pickup you like, it's as good a platform for vibrating strings as anything else.

    Question for anyone who can help with input. I had a diy project a few years back. I can't figure out why the string tension is so tight. I have to down tune to c standard and even then playability is not how I'd like it to be. What could be the source of this? Many thanks in advance.

    • @grantkoeller8911
      @grantkoeller8911 Год назад

      String tension is a result of 2 things, scale length 34" inch regular will feel tighter and a 32' inch short scale will feel looser.
      and string gauge, a low E .105" tighter, or .095" Low E not as tight.

    • @grantkoeller8911
      @grantkoeller8911 Год назад

      I would definately try out different brands and different string gauges, until it feels correct.

    Let's be realistic...if you live in the US, sure, this kit is $89 (currently showing as $87 on the website as I type this)...but shipping for the kit is over $73. So, you are going to pay almost as much to ship the kit as you do FOR the kit.

    Sounds thin and weak like every other hundred dollar bass. Put some real parts on it because it looks outstanding. Shell pink with matching headstock and red tort is something I've been meaning to get around to. Maybe a Jaguar after what you've done. Your relic job is to die for. Better than Fender's $3k one.

    • @TenFalconsMusic
      @TenFalconsMusic 2 года назад

      I think Harley Benton may have been going for that thin, weak sound like the Rickenbackers have.

      @@TenFalconsMusic They only thing they are going for are the cheapest possible parts to get it out the door. Not actually a design goal to be the cheapest minimally functional instrument.
