I'm genuinely curious.
Dear Shehzad, yet to watch the podcast but commenting here since I want to draw your attention to the fact the PPP's founder spelt his name as 'Zulfikar' and not 'Zulfiqar'.
Why Bhutto launched a military operation in Baluchistan? 1- Background: Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto became President in December 1971, shortly after the “East Pakistan Debacle.” In 1972-73, the Communist Afghan regime restarted it’s support for the “Pashtunistan” & “Azad Balochistan” (Chakkar movement) movements. They intensified the Radio Kabul propaganda & sheltered NAP (an anti-state political party of Pakistan) activists inside Balochistan & KPK. The NAP activists were led by Ajmal Khattak. In July 1973, Sardar Doud led a bloodless military coup to overthrow King Zahir Shah & declared himself the President of Afghanistan. One of the reasons he quoted for the coup was Zahir Shah’s supposedly soft approach on “Pashtunistan” issue. Afghan official gazette published the Pashtunistan flag & also ran inflammatory reports about terrorist activities of Pashtunistan miscreants. Radio Kabul’s propaganda reached its peak. Bhutto arrested several leaders of NAP on the charges of treason & launched military operation in Balochistan and intelligence based operations in KPK, to crush the separatists. 2- The Pakhtunistan Issue: In February 1974, Afghan animosity to Pakistan was so great that Afghan President Doud didn’t participate in the ‘OIC Leaders Summit’ held in Lahore. Abdul Rahman Pazhwak, the Afghan delegate at the summit, tried to raise “Pashtunistan issue” on this Unity forum too but got snubbed as no Muslim country’s leader paid any heed. From 1973-78, soon after Doud assumed power, Afghan government started supporting the Baloch insurgents fighting against Pakistan. Afghanistan sheltered thousands of Marri tribesmen & gave them training+weapons for militant activities inside Pakistan. In the same period of time, Afghan government (under Doud) continued to support the “Pashtunistan proxies.” 3- NAP’s terrorism in Pakistan: NAP’s militant wing “Pakhtun Zalmi” was funded/trained/armed by Kabul for terrorist attacks in Pakistan. These facts have been confirmed by Jumma Khan Sufi, a close aide of Ajmal Khattak, in his memoirs “Faraib-e-Na Tamam.” Sufi remained in exile for 20 years in Afghanistan & was involved in the Afghan proxy activities inside Pakistan. Not only was Afghanistan supporting NAP terrorism in Pakistan itself, it also became a hub for Indian interference into Pakistan via Pashtunistan & Balochistan proxies. NAP leaders were paid monthly stipends & other funds by Indian government as admitted by Jumma Khan Sufi in his memoirs. In February 1975, Hayat Sherpao, (Senior PPP minister & ex-Governor NWFP) was killed in a bomb blast. The assassination was carried out by NAP militant wing operating out of Afghanistan (as confirmed by Jumma Khan Sufi some three decades later). 4- Conclusion: In April 1978, Afghan President Doud & his whole family were massacred in the Soviet-sponsored “Saur Revolution.” The new pro-Communist regime announced an all-out support for “Pashtunistan.” Later in December 1979, Soviet secret service (KGB) assassinated Afghanistan’s President Hafizullah Amin & nearly 100,000 Soviet forces entered Afghanistan. Babrak Karmal was installed as President by Soviets who pledged to free the “holy land of Pashtunistan” (from Pakistan). You may disagree with me but Bhutto took a right decision of launching a military operation in Balochistan because that operation was against the insurgents-not against the Baloch people. This great strategy of Bhutto saved Pakistan from another debacle like 1971.
Thanks for this detailed background & context - I did not know much about this issue & was confused watching this video (as some background knowledge was presumed on this matter).

Would love to meet you in person one day.
Shahzad the reality in Pakistan is this no civilian had or have power greater than it's military, if ZAB would resist and not send military in Balochistan he would have been out or thrown away at that very moment😮, regretfully he was highly smart and intelligent leader but there was a human weakness in him to cling to the power no matter what will be the end consequences. He did an other blunder to protect his premier ship by listening to religious parties Which brought him down not only from his PM chair but took his life too, that was so unfortunate because that was not his agenda to become dictator or religious bigot.😢😢
One question Shahzad what do you think who send military to provinces, is it Shahbaz, Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif, Benazir? Do they have power enough to make decision about military deployment I don't think so than how can you blame Bhutto solely about Balochistan debacle, he had to get share of blame because he was the PM at that time but not his fault 💯.
To my opinion based on studies, Z Bhutto was sole responsible for 1971 episode , he was also responsible for 1965 war as he encouraged military for aggression, also he should have focused on water management, promote education, health and industries he goes foe atom bomb which was unnecessary for Pakistani.

The focus should have been on the facts n national development but for Pakistani political players it was personal interest. Aur nateeje aapke saamne hai. Despite the indicators, the political players are still on with their game plunging the country into a deeper sinkhole. And of course with the blanket cover of religion everything gets eventually justified.
21:54 Wrong. If that was true, if Pakistan was a nation of nation states, it would not have gone through the messy history, the coups, terrorism and conflicts with Divided India, the Afghan war etc. In fact, if Jinnah had used such an argument for his movement, it would not have come to exist on the map of world either. But the idea is nice. The problem is that such a narrative can't be promoted. If Pakistan begins to celebrate pluralism-diversity, the civilians will hold the power. If that happens, the military would lose its power and relations with India will soon patch up. Also the US and allies will lose a significant pawn in the region so they would also not let it happen easy. It's easy to purchase and dictate or use a nation under thumb of a few men in uniform than thousands of politicians. It will not happen. More than the Pakistani military it's the White man that won't allow it. You can also count China in it.
Major Blunder was making True Muslim Qadiyani as kafir - else, Pakistan would have implemented Riyasat e Qadiyani in Pakistan and would have become number 1 power in the world.
Bhutto is rightly also blamed for what happened in 1971. He supported and encouraged the military operation in East Pakistan (he said Shukar hai Pakistan Bach gaya)- and he refused to sit in opposition after losing the election to Sheikh Mujeeb. These are incontestable facts. Even if Bhutto did not utter the exact words idher hum udher tum, his above actions led to a situation that clearly conveyed the very sentiments of that misquoted phrase. Had Bhutto agreed to sit in opposition and accepted the mandate of the Pakistani people instead of resorting to manufacturing this political crisis , there would not have been violence in East Pakistan and it would not have led to Operation Searchlight. As stated above, Bhutto endorsed Operation Searchlight Yes the army is to blame but you can’t whitewash Bhutto of an equally great responsibility for what happened in 1971. I expected better from you.

Why Bhutto didn't accept the election results of the 70's election and let Mujeb rule the country? why did Bhutto support military operation in East Pakistan? Pakistan has been saved that was Bhutto's statement on the start of military operation in east Pakistan (Operation Searchlight). this statement was not published in the daily Lihaf but it was published in the most credible newspaper in Pakistan which is daily Dawn. Bhutto was not a democratic politician at all. He was a fascist dictator and a mediocre politician.

I am giving you better. Watch the video. The military operation was decided on before Bhuttos announcement. State sanctioned narratives say bahar aayain boss
True, the military build-up was continuing. Even as Yahya was sending out the invitations on March 3, a battalion of the 22nd Baluch regiment was airlifted to East Pakistan. This regiment was secreted at the EPR HQ at Peelkhana in Dacca and it started reconnaissance duties in EPR dress from the next day (A TALE OF MILLIONS : ISLAM, M.RAFIQUL)
n the last week of February," Yahya suddenly dissolved his civilian cabinet and held a secret conference with all his governors and martial law administrators. Yahya did not offer any satisfactory explanation for the dissolution of the civilian cabinet. Bewildered Bengalis watched these developments with suspicion and caution. On or about February 22, a very high-level conference was held at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi attended by Yahya and the seniormost army generals. In that top-secret conference a final decision was taken which at a later date proved to be fatal for the Bengalis as well as for Pakistan. It was decided that power should not be handed over to the Bengalis and that they must be forced to accept all dictates from West Pakistan. The generals decided to acliieve that aim through terror tactics of the worst possible nature. The generals thought that the autonomy movement in East Pakistan had been created by the politicians and a few thousand dead would be sufficient to crush it . Bhutto is reported to have ex¬ pressed the same thought to some foreign journalists in March: “.The autonomy issue has been created by a few intellectuals. A few thousand dead in Dacca and East Pakistan will be quiet soon.” Even Tikka Khan is reported to have suggested to Yahya, “Give me one week’s time. I will bring back normalcy in East Pakistan.”
On February 26, Bhutto held yet another meeting with Yahya in Karachi. Two days later Bhutto asked for a postponement of the National Assembly session. Bhutto wanted others to believe that the postponement was necessary to facilitate further discussion with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the fundamental issue of consti¬ tution making. Bhutto threatened that if his demand was not met West Pakistan would be rocked by popular agitation from ‘Khyber to Karachi’. Surprisingly, Yahya found nothing grave in Bhutto’s threat. The first batch of troops arrived in Dacca by a Boeing aircraft of the Pakistan International Airlines on the night of February 28 under strict security cover. Tanks were being brought to Dacca from other cantonments. Immediately on arrival these were put on soft tracks for use on the city roads. From next day onward, troop movement by ait from the western wing to the east became a regular nightly feature. In peace time such moves cannot take place in a day or two trver such a long distance of more than four thousand miles by air-*especially after the ban on overflights by India following the blowing up of the hijacked Indian aircraft. Such a troop movement entails
Sarfraz bugti got less than 600 votes in form 45 and 58000+ votes in form 47. How can a puppit CM be accepted by people of Balochistan. A rootless mushroom man.
Bhutto ki baaari your criticism becomes meeetha meetha hola hola pyaar se. Bro woh koi roti ko chochhi nae kehta tha. Rajja va rami greedy for power tha. You cannot ignore that he was a civil politician with the military and was the FM for ayub khan. Full time jholli mein betha va tha woh bhi, just for his own power gains.
Some of your presumptions are incorrect. Balochistan total budget for this year is about 990 billion. Punjab has a budget of 4.4 trillion. Balochistan has a population of about 15 million, while Punjab has a population of about 130 million. Clearly, enough funds are being earmarked for Balochistan- much more per person than in Punjab. Not to say that injustices do not exist. They do, but the main problem lies in its geographical location, which has made it a tool for regional and global geopolitics. Look around, outside your borders, and you will know what is happening in Balochistan, and why. You are trying very hard to attribute everything to internal reasons. You need to modify your narrative with the inclusion of who is lighting the blowtorch, and why.

For me he was equally responsible for 1971 because he was much more power politician as compare to nawaz imran and other politicians, actually he was more than just a politician he was an active member of ayubs cabinet and he had the oppirtunity to revive democracy but he prefered personal vengeance over it
{correct me if i am wrong} i think he had left ayub after tashkent declarent
after this decleration he was ver much against ayub
@@hammadabbasi5941he left Ayub because he had no other option, he was part of the campaign against the Iron Lady Fatima Jinnah in the first presidential election, the election was rigged blatantly and they stole people's mandates plus he initiated the war with Ayub if I say ''he convinced Ayub to take on India'' would not be wrong by saying that India would not start the full-scale war against Pakistan and apparently what India did, Pak was not ready or prepared for it.

I understand you saying that them killing regular innocents is wrong, when you're talking about the Baloch organizations. But then you also say attacking CPEC is wrong because it's a state project. The state took their land by force, treated them like second class citizens, forcibly kidnap and make them disappear. Why is it wrong for them to try and harm the state which has harmed them? I'm genuinely curious.
Genuine point...hope he answers.....
Dear Shehzad, yet to watch the podcast but commenting here since I want to draw your attention to the fact the PPP's founder spelt his name as 'Zulfikar' and not 'Zulfiqar'.
Why Bhutto launched a military operation in Baluchistan?
1- Background:
Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto became President in December 1971, shortly after the “East Pakistan Debacle.” In 1972-73, the Communist Afghan regime restarted it’s support for the “Pashtunistan” & “Azad Balochistan” (Chakkar movement) movements.
2- The Pakhtunistan Issue:
In February 1974, Afghan animosity to Pakistan was so great that Afghan President Doud didn’t participate in the ‘OIC Leaders Summit’ held in Lahore.
In the same period of time, Afghan government (under Doud) continued to support the “Pashtunistan proxies.”
3- NAP’s terrorism in Pakistan:
NAP’s militant wing “Pakhtun Zalmi” was funded/trained/armed by Kabul for terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
4- Conclusion:
In April 1978, Afghan President Doud & his whole family were massacred in the Soviet-sponsored “Saur Revolution.” The new pro-Communist regime announced an all-out support for “Pashtunistan.” Later in December 1979, Soviet secret service (KGB) assassinated Afghanistan’s President Hafizullah Amin & nearly 100,000 Soviet forces entered Afghanistan.

He did an other blunder to protect his premier ship by listening to religious parties
Which brought him down not only from his PM chair but took his life too, that was so unfortunate because that was not his agenda to become dictator or religious bigot.😢😢
They don’t
You can call it ZAB 's fault, but no one in his better senses could ever say that #Balochistan military operation was the brainchild of PM.Bhutto.

As stated above, Bhutto endorsed Operation Searchlight
Yes the army is to blame but you can’t whitewash Bhutto of an equally great responsibility for what happened in 1971.

I agree with almost all of your points except that elite is only from Punjab. In your own video you said waderas in sindh and sardars of Balochistan are colonial legacies then i want to tell fuedal lords of Punjab are also from that same family tree who were granted lands by bristishers and they all collectively form the elite of Pakistan.
These waderas receive their patronage from Pindi and Islamabad too. Toh Pakistan kee elite toh Wahan hee hay jis nay Pakistan kee resources par qabza Kia hua sa hay
@@ThePakistanExperience those who are sitting in islamabad and pindi donot necessarily from Punjab for example first dictator Ayub Khan was not from Punjabi but he was from KP. Similarly Musharraf and many other generals like Abdul Waheed Kakar they all didnot beling to Punjab. Therefore elites in Pakistan have a joint venture they are not centered in a specific area or ethnicity.
Ayub Khan was a colonial subject. Musharaf was from Karachi, I include Karachi.
@@ThePakistanExperience All the elite of today's Pakistan is an offspring of colonial subjects. A very few numbers post partition have joined elite club mostly are from those 22 families.

This regiment was secreted at the EPR HQ at Peelkhana in Dacca and it started reconnaissance duties in EPR dress from the next day
(A TALE OF MILLIONS : ISLAM, M.RAFIQUL)
n the last week of February," Yahya suddenly dissolved his civilian cabinet and held a secret conference with all his governors and martial law administrators. Bhutto is reported to have ex¬ pressed the same thought to some foreign journalists
in March: “.The autonomy issue has been created
by a few intellectuals.
