The more i learn about VHT amps, the better i like them. Really thinking seriously about buying one. Right now VHT amps are leading the pack ahead of Vox, Blackstar and Laney.
I own a head, pumping thru a h&k closed back 12 with a celestion v30, playing in a small club, it can keep up with a moderate acoustic drummer, playing the classics...the trick with this amp, and i use only the clean channel, is that the maximum clean headroom, aka, nice loud clean, and pedal platform, is opposite from traditional amp setup. With the clean volume and watts all the way to the right, dimed, it is at it's cleanest, and loudest, and an awesome pedal platform. As you roll back on the watts knob, it starts to sag and break up. Really kickin amp straight up for a bargain. Bought mine used for $200usd, and the seller threw in an el84 w/vht adapter, 2 eh el34's of different designation, a 6l6, and 2 different 6v6s. Ive played Casino gigs, micd up of course, and the stage volume and feel held its own, playing with 2nd guitar, keys, or horns. I keep looking for an excuse to buy something bigger, but this really does it all.
Great video. I own this amp and love it so much. The 6V6 failed many years back and I replaced it with a military grade Russian 6V6 and it improved the clean tone. It still breaks up nicely but my main objective was to make it a pedal platform. The attenuation and high/low power modes are great for home use, but this amp would still work perfectly live.
I'm just a home player and I've had mine since 2013. I did change the 12" Chromeback speaker to an 8 Ohm Celestion V30. Of course that's nice but truthfully the Chromeback sounds just as British. In the future if I ever get a tube amp head, I might make my own cab and use the V30 there. I changed the tubes to all Tung-Sol with a EL34B power tube and it sounds so Marshall, great with pedals. I run the impedance switch at 16 instead of 8 because of that, per VHT tech support advice. It's never blown the fuse like the first version did. I like playing around with the volume and ultra knob combinations, sometimes using either knob as the master volume for some interesting tones.

Great Vid, I,m thinking about adding this to my collection ,I was looking for another tube amp but one that I could attenuate to low listening volumes and still get good tones.
Its crazy how easy it is to loose the tone you like with this amp ha ha! I started taking pics of the settings cos each perimeter affects the other so much..... and I haven't started doing the mods yet!

Nice size amp foot switch looks like the basic entry level plunger style that fender offers. I can tell you its loud, lol I guarantee you it sounds better with single coils these smaller what tube amps usually do, modern player when you get the chance if its something you want put a Seymour Duncan JB 4 (not the trembucker) it just sounds so good in every guitar especially a tele or strat !

These are great amps, man. I added the matching 1 x 12 extension cab and it sounds wonderful. That boost on the volume does work with the ultra channel, too.
+Greg Brown still getting adjusted with mine and how my pedals react to it. But i really like the sound.
For 6 watts, the volume is quite impressive. I swapped the 6V6 for EL34, and like that quite a bit, too.

So did you keep it? I bought one of these about 2 or 3 years ago. I tested it with a few guitars, no effects. I was disappointed, so it sat on a shelf for years. However, I recently rebuilt my pedal board and brought this one out for test run. I was shocked. I never knew what I had here. This thing is amazing with a pedal board and a strat. This amp is so versatile. I love it now.
it's a blank canvas of an amp. I still have it but I bought I bought a more powerful amp for live and now this one is just studio and practice.
Good way to put it. Blank canvas. You're right. One can create some great sounds out of this thing - and some awful ones.

Mine sounded like ass out of the box. I have to get a shop to look at it because it was an open box item and not covered by warranty. VHT responded quickly at first but now are silent.
Good demo. You let the amp speak or itself. Question though. You kept it in low power when trying to find a good clean tone instead of full power. Wouldn't that have given you better cleans? Or does the Watts dial override the power settings? I had the head and sold it. I regretted it from the day I sold it. It has great cleans. I just ordered this and will get it tomorrow. I hope I can get enough headroom for some decent clean tones. It will be a practice amp so it doesn't have to be cranked.
At a lower watt, it break up more easily. I'm not super sure why I went that route for a cleans but it's pretty nice that it can handle low volume + low gain. I still have this amp and don't plan on selling it

What does the volume knob do when your on the ultra input?
Great demo. Properly mic'd up and going through all the settings of the knob positions. This should be the template for all amp demos. Are you still using it and liking it?
Yessir, I am still using this guy. I've since replaced the speaker. I've been toying with idea getting a bigger amp though. The 6watts is proving a little quite for me nowadays.

This amp definitely gives you that certain sound not sure what that sound is lol I know makes no sense but it has this garage band type with a dirt natural reverb tone ? I can tell you if you plugged this into a ext. cab you would sound so big , great video thanks !

Great demo. I love my Special 6 Ultra. I'm thinking of switching out the tubes as well but I'm not sure which ones to switch. Seems like EL34s would be a good option.

You're right idea what an 'fx looñ' is. But it does have an effects loop.
I must be missing what everyone else hears, sounds like a SS cheap Fender or Marshall entry level amp. SS distortion sounding to. ...
THE AMP: Personally - slightly disappointed. End-2-end, I did return the amp within 48h (bought brand-new at Thomann (Germany)). IMO poor tonal range, flat sound, loses character at H/Gain settings. Simple noise-maker. I realize this very individual but I am not the only one having same feeling… After I made full circle (in looking for a newer combo), I returned to good, old ORANGE ;)
THE PLAYER: Decent job. Respect.
I felt the same way. It sat unplugged for years. But I changed my mind after I hooked up a strat and a pedal board. This amp is now my new favorite. Creamy Fender tones.
