This band has a potential worldwide success. They cannot undervaluate themselves! They should be playing in the best places in the world. The World needs them!! Long Live the Gentle Giant!
The more of this stuff I hear, the more I keep thinking "it just does NOT get any better".
God, these guys are as good (maybe BETTER) than ever. I could not be more excited about a reunion. This is NOT nostalgia...it's a great, vital band playing music that deserves to live on.
See these guys at all costs. Imagne how dumb you'd feel if you'd had the chance to see Chopin in person and passed it up. THAT is how important I think this is!
I can't believe they pulled off the "out-there" part at 2:05. That's sick! WOW!
Please come to San Francisco!!!!!!
omg what a find, with the genius Kerry Minnear on keys even!. My life is complete, the neo-cons can incinerate the planet now.
Amazing. More please?
...unless regressives do it first.
Respect!
meaty thick tone Gary!! THAT is the shit.
Timeless, incredible, remarkable, amazing music.....one cannot avoid the cliches when discussing this original band and the brilliant music they createdll
When I was growing up, there were three great key boardist. Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, and Kerry Minnear. Not too many people knew about Kerry which was one of the cool things about him.
2.28. Someone in the crowd sums GG/Three friends, up. This is Fu@#ing awesome!
it's all about the music! If you believe that dying is preferable to hearing the music played by others, then go ahead and expire!
No, not the best ever live rendition of this song, but boy howdy! I’d take these guys at their worst over today’s (or even yesterday’s) Billboard chart toppers anytime! The Gentle Giant story is a sad one given the dichotomy of their amazing composition and playing skills and the general lack of enthusiasm from the public at large, but they triumphed in other ways. Their body of work is a tome of magical brilliance that will continue to elate and inspire long after the song-of-the-month club has faded into obscurity. Here’s a band that broke up in 1980, and forty years later their music continues to amass an ever-widening audience of new devotees. Critics, listen again, but this time try hearing past your commercially shaped preconceptions. This is naked brilliance.
Absolutely fantastic - how did I miss this gig? Only waited 35 years!
Amazing...please get Kerry back in the band and come to Holland!
I keep playing it over & over, still can't believe what I'm hearing (& seeing)

Nice to see that Gentle Giant is still be appreciated.
they are awesome. I was at horeham. best gig Ive ever been to
.....epic
The singer of this song was Derek Shulman, or the lead singer Simon Dupree in "Simon Dupree and the Big Sound." Derek Shulman made the band work. His voice could carry over the instruments while, in order for all the multi-instrumental players to bridge over from one set of instruments to another, from all of them playing the recorders to playing the drums, for example, Derek could play bass or most of the other instruments if needed to do so.
And he had a hell of a voice..
just like an old friend [or three] coming to visit...glorious!!!!
just watched two other versions of this song .... sad to admit THIS was Mick's BEST take. what a persistent ,stubborn guy ;-)
Oh, please let me die with the memory of the original group. There is no Gentle Giant without the Shulmans. Besides, forget about these digital instruments...
Great performance.
Standing Ovation!
Seriously talented ~
I join the shout!
Such a playful performance, and so full of play!
OH MY GOD - This is my favorite song from Acquiring the Taste. Thanks so much for uploading this. What a find, and what a delight to see this amazing material revisited!!
Gentle Giant... the originators of math rock. thanks for posting this.
Wow! nice tight version of this HEAVY G.G. classic reveals how fine the composition really is with the lines behind the verse vocals so perfect... and the main riff for the solo (s) is still so menacing as they carefully layer it (in da original) and THEN... it modulates through a batch of keys while G. Green soars over top...!Whew.
Love his Voice!!!
AWESOME GO GARY GO
Wow like this - was checking out Mick Wilson as just seen 10cc live twice. I bought one Gentle Giant album (power and the glory) back in the seventies but now see what I have missed out on!
Dude this is good, the original blows it away!
The best thing i´ve seen on You Tube recently !!! Thanks for sharing !!! Love GG !!! Acquiring the Taste is my favorite album !!! Awesome !!! Great to see Gary Green again !!! Best regards from Rio de Janeiro !!! Rock on guys !
No hay nada mejor que los originales
After performing at the PMFM, Three Friends are going to Japan and Germany!!
Video camera lesson are Needed !!! 🎥😏🎶
Nice!!!!
Que vengan a Sudamérica. Los esperamos.
Good Lord, what a rendition! One of those awfully difficult pieces from one of the most brilliant bands ever. Add Phil Schulman's pizzicato violin to this and there's no topping it, here or anywhere in the universe.
Derek Shulman's parts are just as hard as those of F.Mercury. What power that man used to have in his voice!! and Mick Wilson's a very good singer, too - he did just great on 10 CC Live' 2008. I think he is a very good choice for singing Giant's songs. However, he was having a real hard time singing this particular song.... Sore throat? Forgot to warm up his vocal cords? Anyway, it's not bad. Very decent. And the instruments are excellent!!
Caralhooo!!! Muito Muito Muito Fodaaa!! From Brasil!!!
They are intending to write new stuff, according to Malcolm Mortimore.
This is just... this is a revamped GG. I would love it (the word is not enough though) if they could compose knew pieces.
I miss Gary Green green boots
So sad Gary didn't played the solo. But great vid, thanks for posting.
super
2:58 -> one of the heaviest riffs ever written ;)
Oh, no, the world's sexiest drummer isn't here!
:)
That's Andy Williams on 335.
Yes it is.They had alot of very grooy doom riffs
You left kerry out of the vid? Jezus,he is a genius
Música dificílima!
One of my favorite songs from "Aquiring the Taste" I always loved the wha-wha solo Gary did. Wish he would have played a little longer on this. Who is the guitar player on the ES 355? He's really good also
the one on the left!
ooops!!!!! I meant Shoreham, not Horeham. oo er missus!!!
i will smoke a doobie now
Please if someone could upload Peel The Paint...
Please upload someone share some excerpts from Goteborg!
@JeffELOLynne
he's there on the right, not a lot but he's there more than he is now.
why? were there problems with sound? :P
@ 2:29: "...s'guys fuckin' awesome!"
Once Mick learns GG's lyrics perfectly, he'll be able to move around the stage more freely. Good expression, though. A new voice does more justice to a universal band.
Most singers would sound like a joke when compared to Derek Shulman. His voice made these songs work just like the voice of Gary Brooker made the songs of Procol Harem work. I am aware that Kerry Minnear also sang in parts of this song as well, but his voice wasn't strong enough to carry past the jamming Gentle Giant like doing during live performances.
First... Respect to this guy and his courage, and he sings well.. but if he played with full, real Gentle Giant, he would sound like a joke.. all the atmosphere, even though of Kerry, sounds a Little unprofessional, at least for old Giant standards, and so the guy stands out quite well.. but those are not Gentle Giant and doesnt sound like Gentle Giant.. the same Gary.. I havent really been a fun of Gary but he had his touch, his groove.. now he hasnt or, not the same as he used to.. so in the end he sings well, and that's it.. I presume Derek today wouldnt sound Better, according at least of how his voice sounds now when he talks, compared to his voice in interviews when he was young..
The title says "Gentle Giant music". I dont see anything that says this is Gentle Giant
@nylonsteel I presume you are being ironic?
it's like watching paint dry...
what could possibly be dangerous playing other peoples music? Please do not lose sight of the fact that a major portion of Gentle Giant music was written by Kerry Minnear, who is right there on the video that you are choosing to dis. It is you that sounds ridiculous, the guy on the vocals is the singer with 10cc and to call him a joke, I can only assume that it is you that is the amateur and doesn't have a clue about music in general
So many talentless bands and singers have come and gone and made fortunes off of their unremarkable skills......then you have Gentle Giant (and now Three Friends) who should be retired to their individual mansions working on their Seventieth album but NOOOOOOOOOO. It's enough to kirk out and go on a killing spree over the injustice of that!!!!!!!!!!!
I prefer this guys voice to Dereks..this guy
1 sings in tune
2, has a greater range
3 better tone ...
Oh lord I Need to contact a Hitman to silence this guy and make him disappear..
The only time I'm wasting is responding to you...
The major portion of Genesis music was written by Tony Banks, but it doesn't work without Gabriel. Please tell the guy on the vocals to go back to 10cc quickly. I will not discuss about music with fans like you. Don't waste your time with this "half Giant", and try to listen to the old school progressive bands.
In this case, please, don't try to play the classic Giant's songs! Make some original stuff. This group is bizarre, a cover band with the remains of the original group. It's the same as Focus without Akkerman, Genesis without Gabriel, Credence without Fogerty...I understand they need to make some money.
dingo rachid Agreed, apart from Genesis without Gabriel. 76-82 was a great period without Peter. Arguably as impressive (but in different ways) to 70-74.
It's dangerous to have your music "played by others", pricipally on Progressive rock. If you do not try a different approach, you will sound ridiculous. And this guy on the main vocals is a joke. May be you are an amateur and is having the classic fan reaction.
