This is the fifth video I have watched on this subject and yours was by far the most informative, thank you for sharing your thoughts, they did indeed align with mine.
"ChatGPT is very good at giving wrong information confidently" 😅😅😅 well-said
Amruta, you are so awesome! Thank you for sharing this.
My colleagues and I formed a research team last year to study the use of AI in technical writing/communication. Your guidance fits closely with our own thinking right now. We've been discussing how important "prompt engineering" is in using a tool like ChatGPT to get quality results.
Your conclusions about the impact of AI on job security is I think spot on. This is why I'm planning to introduce students in my Style in Technical Writing course to several AI tools and collect some data this spring. I'll use your video now. Good stuff!
Glad the video is helpful! This tool popped up on my radar recently; your team might find it interesting: www.jointwig.com/
It seems more of a proof of concept than an actual usable product rn, but an interesting development in the field IMO :)
Thank you, Amruta for sharing such an insightful video on ChatGPT. As a seasoned technical writer I was also wondering about its use, and whether it is a threat for my profession. I too did some test, and found its response are based on training data till 2021. But I hope soon they will enhance its capability to train the model with real-time data searched, over the Internet.
Also, each organization follows their own documentation standards. So, whatever content ChatGPT is generating, need to be edited by us to ensure they are following organization's standards, and technically correct, concise, and consistent.
Thanks again for sharing this video!
Dear Amruta, This was an awesome and very professional video, thank you for sharing!
Loved the video. It is packed with insights. Not just for technical writing but the industry as a whole.
Fantastic overview, thanks so much Amruta. I have shared a synopsis and link to your video with my professional tech writing network here in New Zealand.
Really enjoyed this one. I think you're spot-on-generative AI like ChatGPT will most likely become a powerful augmentation tool, not a writer replacement. I've tried a lot of experiments similar to your own and have been surprised at how much incorrect extrapolation the tool does. It was writing steps for a process in our software that we don't even have...
Love it! Thank you for making this video Amruta.
Thank you very much for this content Amruta. I discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm enjoying it a lot.
Hi Amruta, Thanks for the video. As a seasoned TW, I was wondering about its use and the threats to the profession. Your video gave us a complete clarity. Thank you once again.
Cheers,
Sree
Thanks for sharing! I’m exploring this intersection as well and it’s definitely intriguing!
Hi Amruta! Thanks for the video.
For keeping track of what's going on with Git repos, I am a huge fan of the CODEOWNER file. If you're a code owner, then you are automatically added as a reviewer on any folder you want, like the docs folder. Highly recommend.
Hey Amruta, I really like the way you break down all the information and how you deliver precise and concise content in each video.
With Gen AI being so widely implemented in multiple products across domains, I think tech writers need to know how to review prompts and messages returned by the system. Should the tone and style be the same as other microcopies used in the application or are there new aspects to be considered. Lot of unknowns! :)
Thank you so much Amruta! Learnt alot for this. I have used AI a bit to compliment my research.
Thank you for sharing the amazing insights!
Excellent advice
Hey Amruta! Thanks for this video. I was curious about the use and impact of ChatGPT on the Technical Writing field ever since I heard about it. Also, I am still working on user manuals in print form.😁
Woah, that's cool! Would love to know more about your experience with printed guides!
@@AmrutaRanade I work for an engineering and manufacturing company. So, we still have to give user manuals and service manuals for our machines in print form. These machines usually have a PC-based software for doing the settings and operating the machine. Its a combination of hardware and software.
@@EjazBengali Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much Amruta for this video! It is something I had been worrying about since I found out about ChatGPT. My question is though: Do you believe that it may create some obstacles to the newbies Technical Writers entering the sector? I mean, since they may lack experience and their level of writing is not optimal yet, some employers or potential clients will not give them the chance to work and improve since they may get an equivalent result from.a ChatGPT query.
That's a valid concern. I do think new writers have an opportunity to incorporate AI tools in their workflow right from the start. Being comfortable with the new tools could be an advantage that could help you get into the industry.
Hi Amruta, thank you for all of your helpful content regarding technical writing. I am a former Administrator who is trying to learn technical writing and technical writing skills for professional development and to dive into work I believe I will find myself enjoying more. I wanted to ask what you insight is regarding someone attempting to be self taught in the field of technical writing as it does seem like it can be a broad title. I am currently learning HTML and becoming more fluent in utilizing git. I am also planning on trying to learn a programming language such as python as I believe it will help me achieve my career goals. Do you have any suggestions or insight for someone trying to learn technical writing and documentation on their own?
I'd recommend practicing tech writing. Try writing tutorials for the things you are learning or a software you use often.
Nice session Amruta, they are saying chat gpt/AI tool will kill many job and roles.... what are your thoughts on affects of these tools on tech writers altogether.... how one should see these new technologies
I shared my opinion in the video :)
Hi Amruta. Love your content!!
Do you recommend WordPress for hosting technical docs?
Hi! I haven't used Wordpress to host tech docs, so don't know if that's a good option. I'd recommend GitHub + Docusaurus
@@AmrutaRanade Thanks fro the reply. My team writes in google docs. Any easy way to sync the tools?
Not that I know of. Googling might help!
I have been using it for the last two weeks, for exactly the tasks you described. In addition, I use it to write macros in Microsoft Word. It is fantastic. I know it's not human, but I might be in love (in addition to my husband -- not instead). 🙂 Your presentation and the content you presented were excellent! I also use Grammarly and Quillbot. Does anyone know of other AI tools to use as a technical writer?
Ooh, hadn't heard of Quillbot! Checking it out now! I came across writer.com recently -- looks interesting!
@@AmrutaRanade Just checked it out, I like how it claims to scan your text and write new text using your style and tone.
Has the company you are working with implemented any AI tools to enhance documentation practices?
Not yet!
Ma'am would you like to make a video with the most essential tools in technical writing
Essential tools differ from company to company. Here are the ones I use: ruclips.net/user/shortsbtC6KFXtRfM?feature=share
Hi ..I'm a content writer and I deal with B2b content. However I wish to switch to technical writing. Can you recommend any courses?
I'm not aware of any beginner-level courses unfortunately. The r/technicalwriting subreddit has several posts about the topic
Hi Amruta, I am a technical writer with total 8 years of experience.. I just want your suggestion for any PG course which may help further in my technical writing career...Right I am in software technical writing. Thanks.
I'm out of the loop when it comes to tech writing courses. The r/technicalwriting subreddit is a better resource than me
Is the chatGPT information non-plagiarised?
The ethics of ChatGPT are still under debate by the community
Mam, plzzzz open a technical writing course in RUclips
I don't have the bandwidth unfortunately :(
