  • In 2019 I made a major change in my life. I Quit my job, and left to hike the 2192 mile Appalachian Trail which stretches from Georgia to Maine. Join me through the cold, the wet, the views, nice days and the bad as I make my way to Mount Katahadin. This is a documentary of my journey.
Found this interesting? Watch the full thru-hike: • Appalachian Trail Thru...

Wow! I so respect and admire you 👌 I started hiking about a year and a half ago at age 68.5...living in north NJ there are plenty of trails here and in northern NY. I am in good health but prone to being sedentary except on days when scheduled for my easy or moderate hikes. I wonder if with training and practice I can improve my balance as well as leg strength enough to do the AT? Or should I leave that for my next life...LoL! When do you plan to do yours?

Jason my girlfriend and I sat on the couch in comfort and shared with you in your journey from.start to finish. Your video helped to remind me that in addition to the physical and financial preparation to making the thru-hike is the all-important mental preparation. Thank you for putting this video together and sharing it with all of us. Ralph Waldo Emerson said once "The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to it's original dimensions." You have been changed for the better. I hope to make that same trek in 2026.

Jason, my husband is 90 and I am 79. We were drawn into your story and fantastic video so much that we began to feel that we knew you, as if you were like a son, or grandson. Our hearts reached out to you as we witnessed your struggles, wanting you to be victorious. We believe that God who created all that beauty was moving in your heart revealing His personal care to you. It was a joy to see your great smiles, and the fantastic close at the top of Mount Katahdin with your sweetheart.
I lived in Medway, Maine, and often went to Baxter State Park at the foot of Mount Katahdin. The beauty is breathtaking.
May you open your heart to the Lord who loves you, and discover a peace that passes all understanding.

Hey man. I relate to this so hard. I have depression, anxiety, and just been diagnosed with severe ADHD and I had to leave my job as a doctor, now I can't hold down anything.
I became addicted to opioids after I had to give up my dream job (clean 2 years), and my sister developed MS and became unable to leave the house. Then my grandmother died (I lived with her when I was younger.) She always took me on long walks, and still walked her dog for lengthy walks until she passed.
Life is passing me by. I intentionally shut myself off from it when it became too painful, and now I don't know how to re-open that door. But we are not alone, and we can find comfort in knowing others understand us, even if we don't fully understand ourselves ❤️
I live in the UK. I can't easily walk the AT or PCT, but I can't stop dreaming about it (PCT has been my dream for a really long time, as it's so foreign to the terrain we have here in the UK, and I can probably only manage to fund one of the two in my life.. but either would be phenomenal for sure.)
I think I'm going to have to do it. I relate to that John Muir quote so much - "the mountains are calling and I must go". I MUST go.
In the meantime there are both long distance trails, and isolated wild trails, in the UK (often they are one or the other) - the South West Coastal Path is over 800 miles, the Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland is much shorter but extremely wild and isolated, there is the Pennine Way and the Welsh Coastal Path and Offa's Dyke and many more.
I had barely hiked 5 miles in a day, and never been on multi-day hikes when the PCT started calling to me. I don't honestly know why I suddenly started craving it when I had so little outdoor experience, it was bizarre! But now, I love hiking and camping more than anything else. It's the only time I feel okay. I don't get out much due to anxiety, but whenever I do, I can feel the clouds lifting, at least a tiny bit.
So I've started small - I did a 6 mile day, then a 12 mile day, then I started camping and hiking for a couple of days. I had so many blisters and was so sore at first! I also started trail running, which is really good for my overheated ADHD brain, and for my anxiety.
I love just being outside and in nature. I love the British countryside, especially the coastal areas such as Cornwall and Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and more rugged area such as Snowdonia, the Pennines and Scotland. But still the PCT calls me. Nothing has come close to the pull it has on me.
I'm going to have to do it. I have very little savings but I do have items I can sell. I can't work full time, but I'm looking into part time jobs I can do from home, such as medical transcription (I know medical terminology from my brief medical career before the depression and anxiety really hit me.) And I'm about to start medication for previously undiagnosed ADHD, which I'm hoping will help me get on top of things and earn/save enough so I can finally realise my dream. As an international hiker it is so much more expensive and complicated, and I will only get one shot at it which adds a ton of stress, but I have to try!
I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you realise your dream, and have an amazing hike! Maybe you have already started, or are planning for next year? If not, I will gently encourage you to begin. If not now, when? ❤️❤️❤️
      This too shall pass ❤️

I could see it in your eyes, and I could hear it in your voice and words. I have been inspired by many other videos, but the way you told your story is on another level. Thank you for sharing, thank you for showing that the true strength in this life is the resolve within yourself. I don't know that I will do the AT, I don't feel it calling me in the way that you did. But I will find that journey that once again illuminates the path I was once on but have since lost my way. "Introverted, but likes to be included in conversations." Me, too. Loved the rock song piece in Pa. Rocks weren't as much of a pain as access to drinking water. Collecting rain water saved me a number of vertical feet to obtain drinking water. A tarp, poncho, or cheap, light painter's drop cloth will do. Bonus is no need to filter! +2 on Pierce Pond being one of the best camp areas on the AT. Maybe Cooper Brook in the HMW has it beat. Swimming hole is awesome. Thanks so much for stirring 30 years of section hiking memories. I still have from Atkins, Va. to the Ga./NC border to do. I'm 66 now, may not be able to do a thruhike, but would still like to try. We share the same birthday! Loved this video. Remember that each individual is on their own life journey. People come into our lives to teach us - good or bad. The wilderness has a very high energy vibration which touches our soul. While spending time there our soul's energy raises to the vibration of the earth. At those times you feel those emotions, thus tearful times along the way and life reflection. A journey like this is therapeutic - it gets you in touch with who you really are at a deeper level - your true self. You now love yourself, where in the beginning you did not, thus demons. Always seek joy in life and know that you are a beautiful soul. Spread that joy with kindness and joy to others. I am from New England and knew that the trail here would kick butt. You have so much to be proud of and grateful for - I know you realize it now. Bless you and I wish you much joy on your continued journey. You have made many life-long friends.

The past year even harder with all that is going on in the world, and we've just reach a point where our children are nearly all grown, and this is what we have our sights set on when they have all finally spread their wings and fly away from the nest to live their own lives. We are also from Penn State, as you mentioned you are. Nature and the peace it bring speaks straight to who I am and it's been a minute since I've connected with it. OH AND REMEMBER THAT COMMENTER AT THE BEGINNING... THE ONE WHO SAID THIS DUDE WILL NEVER MAKE IT... WELL HE DID! THIS IS A LESSON ON NOT JUDGING ONE BY THEIR COVER. And Jason, you said that your sad it was all ending. Don't think of it as the ending, but the means to a new beginning for you and what live hold for you. It really reminded me that good people do still exist in abundance. You're movie stoked a lot of great memories thank you

I lived about three miles from Springer Mountain before retirement. My dogs helped rescue services find people lost on the Appalachian Trail. My black-n-tan coon hound, Hambone, had the nose and the legs so he'd do the searching. My two Rotties Hollywood and Dogwood, stayed with me in case a bear showed up,...or if I had cheese in my pocket. My dad died of leukaemia at 62, he had waited all his life to enjoy retirement and never made it. I retired at 62 and have lived in and visited South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, and even the US.

Thanks for making this video. I'm a 48 year-old backpacker in the midst of planning and conditioning for my thru-hike of the AT, and it's inspiring to see someone follow their dream. I've done section hikes of the AT, but I'm so looking forward to completing the entire trail.

Frozen, man, I can’t express to you how proud I am of you. This movie is awesome and fully captures the emotions I had while following you last year. There is a defining moment I remember watching you last year where there was a noticeable change in your attitude. It was noticeable in how you talked to the camera, walked, mannerisms...everything. Thank you for allowing us to take part in your life changing experience.

I have been dreaming about this journey for such a long time. Having hiked 100 miles on The Long Trail and completed all of the 4000' peaks of the whites, I met many through hikers and have always had a great deal of admiration for those who undertook this journey. I was so engrossed in your story that I watched it from start to finish. There was an amazing transformation in the man who began this journey and the one who touched the sign atop Mount Katahdin. Thank you for sharing your experience. I look forward to exploring all that you have to share on your channel and someday hearing the trail speak to me.

Finally got to watch this from start to finish. After following you throughout the entire journey the first time and the anticipation of waiting for your next video this was a great sum of it all. This deserves awards for the editing and storyline alone. This was a great adventure both times through and I'm so glad you shared it with us. Love you Frozen, look forward to the next adventure.

I don't think I have ever watched anything this inspiring or beautiful before. I'm a new hiker, fresh out of university, so the AT seems like a pipe dream for me right now, but I'm setting it as my long-term goal as something to work towards. Seeing your video has given me more hope than ever and I can't wait until the day that I can prove to myself and to others that anything is possible. Thank-you for giving me that belief and goal to work towards.

I have never hiked, but have subjected myself to very physical endurance type activities. Congratulations on your accomplishment and engagement (assuming married now). Well done, and thank you!

@@natashaletourneau5368 Congratulations! Parenthood is a fantastic journey itself. So much fun amongst the hard stuff. My boy is now 18, seems like yesterday he was a Bub sleeping on my chest while I watched adventure travel shows on the tv. He’s grown up travelling all over Australia and parts of SE Asia, the pacific and Indian oceans, rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, scuba, caving, trekking, loves it - passed on our travel/adventure bug to him. He’s my best mate, and a great source of inspiration. We still adventure together - I’m not a daggy Dad apparently - and when I talk about future travel plans, even ten years off when I’ll be 60, he always chimes in with, ‘I’ll meet you there’. Which makes my heart sing.

Laying here with chronic pain issues for last 10-12 years of my life. At 62, disabled and not able to work, there are more dark days than I care to remember. Today is sabbath and I steal away on the sabbath to seep myself into nature videos. My favorite are ocean videos. I can literally watch them all day. I came across your video and thought I would watch it, since I will never walk it. I was moved to tears at the end. What I learned from you was gratitude. Being grateful for today. It’s hard to be grateful for pain. But somehow, in my mind, I have to appreciate it. Tomorrow without life, without the pain, seems glorious to me. A lovely deep sleep minus the exhausting pain. But, the flip side is those who care about me. Those to rely on me for words of encouragement on the “better” pain days. My husband. My kids. My extended family, and the prison Pen pals I write to and try to encourage and inspire. Somedays though, I don’t seem enough. Then God steps in and says “hold on. Tomorrow it might be better. There maybe a new soul, or an old one you would miss out on lifting up. Just hold on. A ‘zero day’ is just a number. See, you can’t look back at your life and see the AT you have accomplished, but with my all knowing and seeing eyes, I can.” Iam crying. Thank you for gratitude, Jason. Thank you for gratitude.

I was just thinking about this the other day. As millennial as it sounds, I really would like to see companies pay for 3 months off work every so many years maybe 10. It would promote loyalty within a company and allow the employee to get their heads straight. When I came back to my career I worked harder than ever.
However who pays for the paid time off. It would be a raise in employee taxes with the company. There is no such thing as free money without inflation. It may be beneficial as the company could get more from their employees.
