very true. that makes a lot of sense. i think the same can be said for the engineers who push cars past their limits in terms of performance. that takes a special talent not many have. the Ford GT for example with Shelby and Miller. that thing was a beautiful machine that still stands to this day more than 50 years later. if thats not art, i dont know what is.
Play-doh will Dry, shrink, and crack while working with it so that's no good. I've never tackled a project of that size but I use Sculpey for small stuff. Sculpey is a polymer clay that holds its shape very well and wont dry on you unless its baked.
Todd Broman Hey that was really cool. It would cost about 5K to do the back end of this car in that tooling clay. Not bad. But potters clay would cost about 1500. So I guess it depends on your budget and use. The tooling clay gets old and at some point cant be used again. The potters clay can be used indefinitely even if it dries out. But the tooling clay is good to make a direct fiberglass mold from which will save lots of labor and time.
right on, i live in the south so its too hot and humid for potters clay. I found that the most affordable way has been a layer up as close as possible with of cardboard, poor foam, sand it back about 1-2 inches below the working plane cover it then build up with tooling clay
+STIGZ you ever heard of polyurethane foam and small layer of molding clay?it would take me max of 500 dollars because I get the clay used in prototype modeling just ask around in car prototypes shop
Like his work or not, he is too busy doing it all himself, with his own hands, and not caring about other people think. Much respect. I wish I lived around people like this. Dedication and hard work is a lost art.
S1KRYD I've needed to make a scoop for a long time to cool a custom turbo build I did this has given me the confidence to give it a try. I'm familiar with fiber glassing just not shaping the clay from scratch. Is it a special kind of clay I should use? Also do you need some kind of release agent besides the packing tape you used or is that good enough?
Rubber Duc Yes you can make your scoop very easy using this method. Use potters clay. Be sure to keep the clay moist. When finished Cover the clay with tin foil to separate the wet clay from the fiberglass materials. Use the packaging tape over the tin foil because tin foil loves fiberglass and will stick like crazy to it. No release agent is needed because you are not trying to release from a female mould. You are only trying to release from wet clay and tin foil.
I don't like it. However, the process shown is spot on. Detailed, exact and well explained. A fuckload of skill is required to make such a thing. A like 'cause of that.
It was funny because I was watching the video and I knew I had to A) seen it already and B) liked it alread....of course you can't like things twice but yes...it was amazing all over again!!
I honestly can say i have never drooled and been rendered speechless after watching a yt video. But wow. All i have to say is your talent is unreal. Keep up the amazing work S1KRYD
You CAN use Rock instead of electronic music, but then your panel will turn out looking like a late 1970's Mustang II or Ford Pinto. (When Rock was best) Do you really want your car to look like that?
WOW You are truly blessed with God given talent for mad skills in clay and glass, thanks so much for sharing your gift with the world and inspiring others in creativity!
4000 different kinds of awesome! Inspiring is an understatement. My ride isn't a exotic or even sports car...'74 Super Beetle, but I crave a uniqueness that this video shows me I can get.
So you're telling me I can go to my local hardware store but a few packs of fiberglass cloth at $6 each. And a can of resin for $20. Get some clay and make my own body panels for my car?
If I had a '76 Cutlass and I wanted to make custom bodywork like this (Which looks amazing by the way) to make it look like the 6000 SUX from Robocop, what would you suggest?
Another approach I've seen--to cut down on how much clay you need, you can also attach blocks of foam to the car (with the original body panels still on it) and sculpt that down, and use clay for the small details. From there you can either pull a mold and make fiberglass parts from it and attach them to the original body panels, or do what S1KRYD did in this video where he creates the fiberglass piece off of it and attaches it back on.
areitu This is a good idea. But if you are going to pull a mould from off your clay you will not be able to use potters clay to do this. You would have to use the expensive Y2 clay or equivalent. This will cost you 10s of thousands.
I ABSOLUTELY love this video man! I have watched it a total of 4 times now, in the same sitting. I am planning on attempting my first fiberglass job today.. I plan on starting with a really small piece, and just working my way up to bigger panels. You make this look very very easy. I know it's not near as easy as it seems, but you definitely help me understand what I need to do, so for that, I thank you! From what I understand, Step 1: Take clay, and create the shape you are aiming for. Step
I love everything I just saw until I recognized the platform that this awsome work of art was based on, I just think the JZA80 body is perfect the way it is, but kudos to the artist on the work?
Thanks mate. Yes some love the car until they realize that the platform that was used is the JZA80. They feel that people should not mess with the original JZA80. I actually think the unmodified ones are ugly ducklings until modified. But truth is if I did not use this car it would still be rotting in the field I found it with no engine or gear box in it. Now it is a work of art with the vvti turbo 2JZ engine and the getrag 6sp box. A nice but rear compo for a car that was going to be sold as scrap metal and crushed and sent to the Chinese to make spaghetti cans :)
Wow do they have another one rotting some place Ive been in love with a MKIV Supra, I own its Father the SC300 and the MA70 Supra, but not the jza80😞, but a real cool job on this one of a kind reimagined Supra😉
Its not painted yet you idiot! The black is a guide coat, so when he does finally start prepping it for paint, any flat spots or imperfections show up..
Haha the paint job to come is the easiest part of the equation but good job eagle eyes pointing out that something that hasnt been done looks like crap
That's what I call talent.I see so many vid's where the resin is so over done and this was done right and awesome but I don't need to tell you that. Love the car, Respect, You have made one S1C RYD
Man that tail end looks great, kind of a Ferrari and a GTR mixed togeather in my opinion! It must be great being able to say that you created that. Props all around!
this is crazy, never imagined this could be done this way. as someone else said this looks like real dedication amd patience. i salute you sir and greag work btw
Very cool. I have a feeling u make it look a little easier than it actually is, like most RUclips DIY videos, but I'm sure with some practice and finesse most people could do this by following your videos. Really neat stuff, thanks for taking the time to post these.
With all due respect, it wouldn't be that hard to do the whole car , Just do one panel at a time . I have to say that at first I felt like this would be dumb when I saw you just dumping clay onto it but then stuff started really happening. This is a sick video and really cool part!
seeing people design and build cars and panels on here has inspired me to want to build my own car I have the design down as to what I want, now I actually have to start saving to fund the job, plus side my dad is a mechanic any trouble I run into I can go to him.
Thanks. But I would not expect a Subaru lover to like anything else apart from a Subaru. Each to his own I say. Just imagine if everyone in the world liked only Subaru's. It would be a very boring world.
S1KRYD I see what you're saying... but I'm not really a one-make kind of guy. I guess I just don't like the over the top body kits... even Veil Side kits I think are... well, let's just say I don't appreciate them. again... I think it's great that you can do that-that is really awesome. but if I had that skill level I would do things of a less flamboyant nature-that's all. keep doing the awesome stuff you do though... =)
That was unbelievable!!! I want to make a hard top for my little suzuki samurai.. dunno if i can copy what you did here lol.. i'm gonna watch more videos from u dude.. cheers
Watched more than a few how to videos, and yours is definitely one of the better ones. I might suggest only one thing, and that would be to use something like white text with a black border. Other than that small issue this has definitely given me great info to work with. Not a care fan, but I do like the design on it. Keep up the good work.
YOU ARE THE MAN. SUPER CAR FROM CLAY AND FIBER GLASS THAT IS HOW A WARRIOR FIGHTS WITH GRASS STICK IF HE LOST HIS SWORD. YOU GAVESUPER CAR BRANDS NIGHTMARES.
S1KRYD , thanks man this video helped a lot, I'm in 10 grade now and I was planning to build my dream car with a custom Body kit later on in life, it's a 1995 Mazda rx7 with a supercharged 3 rotor engine, with methanol injection and a custom wide body kit I made up so it doesn't look like a rx7 from the front, but from the back it will. The supercharger that is going to be on the car is going to be a Whipple 3.4l twin screw supercharger, and I estimate it to make 700whp at Max boost, which is 26 psi or more, it's a monster, Ive been drawing this car since the 6th grade, and this video final solved my problem on how im going to build the body kit, I wish I could show you the pictures
Boldness has great genius and power. You can never fail. You just learn how to do it better. Practice practice practice is the only way to learn. Where some see failure I see on going progress and a learning process which eventually ends with perfection!
Hi, Thank you for your quick response. This will be my first time attempting to sculpt my own body shell design, but once I start I'll show you my progress and thank you for the resource info. are you going show more videos on project I would like to see your finished work?
Great video and work. But you obviously have a lot of skill and design ability in the medium that most of us don't have. I applaud your efforts to share some of those processes with us. You are a great clay worker and designer. Plus you must have a couple hundred pounds of clay. Wow.
I use the most common resin used for bodykits. I'm ridiculously impressed, not for your car enthusiasm, but your skills as an artist, this is really good stuff.
You are not just a car guy, you are an artist, with the patience of a mother if that makes sense...
makes sense
very true. that makes a lot of sense. i think the same can be said for the engineers who push cars past their limits in terms of performance. that takes a special talent not many have. the Ford GT for example with Shelby and Miller. that thing was a beautiful machine that still stands to this day more than 50 years later. if thats not art, i dont know what is.
If you do not have the patience to watch the full video then skip to 9:20 to see how the whole car was made using the clay method :)
Hey what kind of clay do u use??? the air-dry or the one that you have to bake to harden??
uh Just potters clay. Keep it wet throughout the process
Could you like, go faster dude?
really nice man! i would like to see the ferrari progress until the final work

Wow that car is a work of Art. This guy can create race cars with this skill.

www.fxsupply.com/materials/clay.html this is the best price I've found for Industrial tooling clay
Todd Broman Hey that was really cool. It would cost about 5K to do the back end of this car in that tooling clay. Not bad. But potters clay would cost about 1500. I don't like it.

A like 'cause of that.
Don't act like you know what the process is, definitely not spot on. The breakdown of your opinion was extremely cringy too...
Farmer Fpv tell me about it
This is actually how automakers sculpture prototype designs. Awesome work.
It was funny because I was watching the video and I knew I had to A) seen it already and B) liked it alread....of course you can't like things twice but yes...it was amazing all over again!!
WOW, YOU SIR ARE A TRUE ARTIST AND A PATIENT ONE AT THAT! CONGRATS ON THE PROJCT ,VERY KOOL...

welp......i have to go now and turn my car into the 1990's batmobile
I was thinking something similar lol. I think I got myself a new hobby.
I honestly can say i have never drooled and been rendered speechless after watching a yt video. But wow. All i have to say is your talent is unreal. Keep up the amazing work S1KRYD
there was a bug in the clay
Sick. I have to give you an applause for all the hard work you did with this
So unique and so inspiring mate, It's a one of a kind and I admire your work and skills!!! :-) :-)
I'm not a big fan of the design, but I really enjoyed learning the process. Thank you.
Can this also be done with rock-n-roll music instead of electronic?
No. Because rock and roll will demotivate you to get drunk and do no work. But electronic music motivates you to work and inspires creativity ;)
I thought it inspires you to drop E, wave chem lights and suck pacifiers.
dieselscience I don't know what any of these things are that you mention
At a kind of party called a "rave" where electronic music is very popular....
You CAN use Rock instead of electronic music, but then your panel will turn out looking like a late 1970's Mustang II or Ford Pinto. (When Rock was best) Do you really want your car to look like that?

Dude got skills yo!!!!
That is some serious dedication, perfect music for it :)
The clay process looks like it took several days, how many?
it said 12 days in the vid.
Holy that is a ridiculous amount of work. Awesome final product! Wish I had the space and time for something like this.
Front= Supra!
Rear= Ferrari
Doors= Lamborghini
Am i seeing a resemblance!!?? :)) .. Its awesome project ! :)

Iceman Piper in a nut shell YES
Except you need some crazy ass skills to do so without it looking like a organic/abstract mess. :P
Mad respect.
No you have to do it the most expensive and time consuming way possible or its not worth doing
That clay model, so much respect, talent, and artistic skill!!
If I had a '76 Cutlass and I wanted to make custom bodywork like this (Which looks amazing by the way) to make it look like the 6000 SUX from Robocop, what would you suggest?
Very interesting. You will need to clay the whole car like I did with this project and make a set of panels to attach to your car.
So remove the original panels and toss em, and stick clay to the car directly so it fits, since I doubt I'd need the old paneling for much else.
Another approach I've seen--to cut down on how much clay you need, you can also attach blocks of foam to the car (with the original body panels still on it) and sculpt that down, and use clay for the small details.
