Never been a big fan of pork pies. But when the darker/colder nights set in I always feel the urge for a classic British comfort food meal which consists of a cooked pork pie (from a good quality butcher) dry soak mushy peas, a big dollop of mint sauce and then cover the lot in gravy. Absolutely delicious!
Sausage rolls are better warm from the oven. It improves the pastry in particular, and helps the flavour of the sausage. Apple pie is meant to go with custard, as the dessert stage at the end of a full meal.
great to see someone trying different snacks and giving a grown up opinion, without screwing your face up and spitting bits out, like it was poison. (normal reaction on a lot of american channels). well done, great review.
Thank you! I saw a video like that one time, people trying snacks with these reactions that you described, I couldn't make it to the end of the video haha is so annoying
If your going to try a sausage roll, best going for a Greggs sausage roll, or getting a pack of frozen Greggs sausage rolls from Iceland supermarket to cook at home. Far better than any shop sausage rolls. Koppaberg is Swedish cider, quite different from traditional British cider. Try a Thatchers, Henry Westons, Aspall, Angry Orchard, etc... For me a cider has to be made from apples or a perry made from pears. Mixed fruit ciders are more like alco-pops, just fruit flavoured alcoholic drinks. If your alcohol tolerance is sufficient, try a locally made scrumpy cider, that stuff will knock you off your feet quickly. We had a pub in the countryside near me that refused to serve it's locally made scrumpy cider because some tourists weren't used to it's alcohol level and were hospitalised for alcohol poisoning. But a half pint of a local scrumpy should be okay. A good pork pie has jelly in it. The pork meat is cooked in the pie while a pigs foot is boiled, when the pie is removed from the oven, some of the gelatinous water is inject into the top of the pie at the side and as it cools it's just into a jelly. When eating it adds that little extra texture, flavour and moisture. Sorry for the long post. I love food and drink, so I rant on a bit.
All the pies you chose are good for the summer as cold quick lunch. A lot of people eat them with a sauce (Red, Brown, apple sauce or Mayo) or Branston Pickles. The hand made ones are probably better than the supermarket packet ones. And with all the pies the quality of meat, seasoning and pastry make a difference. Hobs Nobs are one of my favourite packet biscuits. You should try these two, Bread pudding which you can buy and eat cold from a Baker and Bread & Butter Pudding from a supermarket (or make your own) which needs cooking in an oven first
The sausage rolls taste even better after 15 seconds in the microwave if you buy them from Greggs; they’re the best ! If you like sweet cider then Woodpecker would suit you best . You can buy larger fruit pies in the supermarkets so they last for 2/3 days ; they can be apple, rhubarb, cherry etc, and should be eaten with hot CUSTARD as most desserts should be.
I sent lots of snacks to a friend in US with instructions etc:. Jaffa cakes, eclairs, twirl, walkers crisps, fruit pastilles and more... I’ve asked him to do a video too! Love these
you're journey to English and UK foods on the whole is just beginning. its called hot water crust pastry for the pork pie, brown sauce goes really well with them too! an oven fresh sausage roll is best definitely need a cup of tea to go with those hobnobs, although you may just end up absorbing all the tea with biscuits instead of actually drinking it! I'm not sure what types of breakfast you normally have in Brazil but if you haven't already getting a proper Full English is a must at some point. Nearly all British hot or warm desserts go with custard, (Apple Pie, Apple Crumble, Rhubarb Crumble, Sticky toffee pudding,Treacle sponge pudding, and so on) Bread and butter pudding is a classic worth trying, it always confuses people. Just need some English cider now ;) And as you said you enjoy beer maybe try Ales as there is plenty to get into there!
Noted! Thank you for the tips! I didn't try the full English breakfast yet, I want to, it is really completely different from Brazilian breakfast. You are not the first to say that the hot desserts go with custard, that is another different thing, in Brazil hot desserts go with ice cream haha But I will try some with custard! 😊
@@youcancallmenane8820 you'll experience both. Tea or coffee is recommended, but it's a spiritual journey starting in delight and ending in self loathing as you finish the packet in 20 minutes. Also have a look for the "tunnocks" range of biscuits. They're Scottish and a national treasure
You need a good dollop of English mustard to go with the Pork Pie (and the Scotch Egg if you fancy it). The Sausage Roll needs to be heated for the best result. Proper Cider is made from Cider Apples, so any other drink that says 'Mixed Fruit Cider' or the like cannot be cider! Pear Cider is called 'Perry'. You need a cup of tea to 'dunk' your biscuits (pronounced biskit). lol
Love your vids, watching vids of ex-pats trying other cultures is an amazing way to learn about people.Yes I am an alien lol.P.S ,you should try Scrumpy. Its a true English cider that originates from Somerset and is lovely.

Apple pie has existed ever since pastry and apple were part of the diet. Who really knows where it originated first.....other than definitely not the USA.
That Scotch egg is really dark coloured Nane. Our ones are more orange/yellow. Maybe there are different bread crumbs mixes? Pork pies need brown sauce or ketchup I think. Sausage rolls from a supermarket are always rubbish. It takes a bakery if you hope for a decent one, but even then they seem to be losing the ability to make them taste at all nowadays. Of course I can only say this about where I live. Hob Nobs are grand! Chocolate ones are also available. Tescos do a biscuit called Oaties, which are a cheaper alternative to the Hob Nobs, and are nice too. BTW you do pronounce your words correctly ( biscuits= pronounced biskits ) I adore you saying " pub ". You make it sound so exotic Nane. : - ) Elegantly done my friend. I would bet a "silk pyjama " that you had indigestion afterwards. Have a wonderful and safe week the pair of you.
In Brazil, when we have a indigestion, we say that we kept chatting with the food all day or all night. In this case I did kept chatting with the pork pie and sausage roll all night haha
@@youcancallmenane8820 haha get a penguin (the chocolate bar) and a fresh cup of tea hold the penguin like a straw and bite off a little peace of the top left corner then the same on the bottom right corner but right bitten corner into the tea and suck the left top corner hard until the tea hits your lip then quickly put bottom half of penguin in mouth it's fall to apart in mouth

I love the crust on pork pie more than the meat too. After I discovered Branston pickle, i also add that as it gives a really nice flavour.
pork pie goes great with a sauce. I like mustard, but you can have anything like cranberry, coleslaw, bbq or horse radish.
