Holy shit!!! I was not expecting to see Art. I made in high school in the thumbnail of the RUclips channel that I really liked. Honestly, I practically forgot about that. I used to be so into this kind of stuff. I’m now like a third year art student in college wow. Like genuinely wow this is kind of insane.
Hey, I'm Woomy;), the creator of the Cycrabs (both the boxing and false one, though Corax.Lara did make the artwork for the False Cycrab), as well as the Startrees. The startrees were made during the initial submission period back when I was younger and didn't quite understand the world as well, so I don't have a whole lot of information about them other than what's already in the video, but I actually do have full entries about the two Cycrabs, which I will post here: "Boxing cycrabs are an unusual species of scattergrass that have developed powerful defensive measures as means of deterring predators. They're fairly slow, with a top speed just a slight bit faster than human walking speed. To make up for this pitiful pace, the cycrabs have developed strong punching claws with which they can break bone. The muscles in these limbs can move fast enough to cause a sonic crack at the point of contact, which will scare off any potential pack mates if the screeching from rubbing the fibers on their head crest isn't enough already. They sense the world almost entirely through touch, and can detect minute changes in air pressure to alert them of potential predators using the hairs located in a ring on the top of their central disk. The openings in the claws may seem pointless at first glance, but they do have some use in pulling up other polyspeculates when the cycrab needs to find a place to plant itself in order to get its share of nutrients. This loosens the soil and allows them to settle in easier." "The false cycrab is a species of scattergrass native to Tenebris that has specialized all 6 of its limbs to break bone into fine powder. They then eat the powder and small pieces and grind them up to even smaller pieces inside tubes on their feet. The reason they developed these specializations is because the soil in the desert is very low in passive nutrients, like carbon and calcium. An added benefit of this type of specialization is protection from predators, as they can punch in 6 directions at once and do so instinctual when their sensory needles are triggered, either through smell or touch. Their feet have developed a blue color to warn potential predators that they are not to be trifled with. The leaves of the false cycrab are arranged in the shape of a funnel, which allows them to collect rainwater in large amounts. They are also tipped with hypodermic drainage needles that they can stab into the insides of the bone plants that they eat, which allows them to take water from them. This water is stored in a bladder-like "jug" organ, just above their central disk. The leaves are thick, and filled with a special gel that has a savory flavor, and can be used to treat frostbite, and also as a butter substitute in savory dishes. The leaf membranes work great as an herb in soups, and the muscles of the feet taste like savory Lobster when boiled or pan fried. Though they are similar, the false cycrab is not related closely to the Terra Septentrionis "Boxing Cycrab". They can be told apart by the size, the shape of the leaves, and the fact that the boxing cycrab only has 2 punching limbs, while the false cycrab has all 6 of its limbs adapted for this purpose."
9:35 Damn... Seeing this drawing now... Kind of surreal. Really happy to see this series finally continuing, and really happy to see that my Sea Crown made the cut. Made my day!
I started following the channel because of this project! I remember getting all excited and making a polyspeculate waaaaay back when the project was just starting out. It didn't get featured unfortunately, but at long last the video on them is out! I'd love to see you do another community project like this, and maybe next time i'll be featured as well!
ITS OUT NO WAY. This project was my first foray into group specevo and I've been happy to get the wiki started and run the extended art server for it all for the past five years. There has been a lot of great work done fleshing out the world all over which we would be glad to show ya!
Have seen some similar speculative evolution in Netflix’s “Alien Worlds”. Not knocking this series mind you. Just pointing out that if you like this, you would probably like that as well.
it has been a while. i remember making the "mountonion" and "plintza" XD it was fun seeing the plant server actually work together to make a semi-functional ecosystem in several biomes (Edit: i still claim largest plant. "where is the plant? all i see is a spongy hill?" exactly!! " not very creative are you" also exactly!)
You should definitely do a video on Ilion! It’s one of the older spec evo aliens projects and it’s one of if not the most in-depth. There’s a whole website for it and everything (I tried linking before but I think my comment was deleted as spam lmao)
Thanks for the forecast! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
And here I thought this series had been completely forgotten. Glad to see it still kicking. Thanks for bringing it back!
Evolution takes time lol
I was sure this project was dead too. I was the author of two creatures back in the original . It was so long that I forgot their names.
Same

it's your sign to get back into it
Ben G Thomas’s videos on speculation about how creatures might evolve are always exciting. ✨😊✨
*INSTANTLY* clicked upon seeing the notification. Love the series!
Ben, your and your collaborators creativity is astounding, reminding Prester Bob of the brilliant constructions Tolkien and Asimov. Chapeau!!
It's been 3,000 years...
Okay but fr, glad to see this series back

I’d love for you and the team to cover more speculative evolution projects!
Well, patience is key,and it seems that it has paid off
LET'S GOOOOOO!!!

He is back
Straight in the veins, Doc!
I remember submitting an alien design for this a few years back!
"You're as beautiful as the day I lost you..."
Well well well, after all these years. I was about to leave the Discord server because of how forgotten the project was.
My death was... greatly, exaggerated
OMG I MADE A SPECULATIVE ALIEN FOR THIS SERIES WHEN I WAS LIKE 15!
Same, I’d never made digital art at that time
ITS OUT NO WAY. This project is what introduced me to speculative evolution community, i cannot be more grateful!

it's really fun seeing all the people from the plant server popping up again =]
@@JennJurassic I think you've figured out by now I was Beans, what was your discord name again? Its so cool seeing everyone recognize each other!

Oh yes we're back for this I love it❤
I had all but forgot about Wallace 2
This seems pretty cool. Nice to some more spec evo 👍
I am absolutely obsessed with spec-evo projects and worldbuilding in general, there's just something to it that fascinates me on a very deep level.
I forgot this is why I originally subbed to the channel
This was worth the very long wait.
Yes, more speculative evolution.. I'm here for it
Holy smokes. I forgot I made a piece for this

Still cant believe that server disappeared, absolutely loved the mountonion

Wow it's really has been 4 years. good to see it isn't dead
Spec evo is back!
When I submitted my alien for this my best friend was still alive and hadn't even got cancer yet. Crazy
Makes me think of the old heavy metal magazines, they had a section called "The Galactic Geographic", it was kinda like this.👍
This is cool! A full collaborative speculative biology project! I’d like to get involved!
we are so back
It’s back
i think im too new to know what this is but im always up for some spec-evo goodness
Does this mean we’re getting a Wallace II update in the future?
You guys should do C.M. Kosemen's Snaiad too.
I have a Alien Planet too, and it is called Loys_2.
Hey, It's been four years... Ben G Thomas
I submitted mine for this one years ago. Let's see if it was included
For a second I thought I was in a paradox since this feels like something for curious Archive
Still waiting for your video on the speculative aliens of Gromit II.
Yay!! That’s all

Rejoice!
Man years later and my submission still never got showed…

Not interested in this fantasy friends.
It’s just for fun
@nathanwindom3978 yeah = )
Well leave and close the door behind you
Bro, is this not just total nonsence?
It's called speculative evolution
I think you are missing context from the videos preceding this seres, made 5 years ago.
What a waste of time.
The only waste here apears to be your existance
What's the point?
