But what if your in the middle of the field (cm) he can just pass sideways is that good or bad
I used to play football in my school team
And as a defender I used to fake blocking on one side and actually block the other side
Worked like a charm
@@loulou1923if you're in the midfield and the opposition has the ball the you should fall back to your goal post
the art of defending is to delay the opposition to buy time for your teammates to help out while also recognizing where the space is and communicating with your teammates to block out passing lanes.
it's a team's game for a reason🎯
@Caleb S easy way to deal with you is a change of direction or a body feint
@Caleb S have they ever tried to get infront of you after they passed you ?
@@sonicwithglasses131i have teammates for that.
See I do that and I get shouted at
Which is why the concept of the best player awards is bogus. Every one functions in a team in their own roles and that makes a su.ccessful team. There has never been any one man team
It's called timing, it slows down the enemy attack and also gives teammates the time to reposition 👍
Exactly!
I agree. But delaying also gives the attacker space and time. You are also not forcing the attacker to make a decision or putting pressure on the ball since you are waiting for attacker to make the move. This would not be the best defensive play if the attacker is intending to make a pass or waiting on their teammate to make a run. So depending on where you are on the field and where other players are sometimes the defender has to commit and force the attacker to make a play as oppose to waiting for the attacker to make a move.
@@soblitzed Of course, there's no golden rule when defending. I'm my case, my approach is to time the attacker but unexpectedly doing fake entrances that force the attacker to do something. It works for me because I'm lightweight and it's easier to control my inertia.
@@lian3400 same with me but my friends say i am afraid to approach the attacker as i am skinny but they always count on first when i am in their team ,so its pretty easier for me control the defence line😂
As much as he has flaws, Virgil Van Dijk is the master of delaying the situation.
Pepe is the master of escalating the situation and he has no flaws. The best way to encounter him is to flop when he's around and he gonna pick you up and he'll say sorry
@@romanballista
I like escalating the situation too learn it when I was playing as a striker
@@arthur_168when a ball is played in his blindside, he is not so good a tracking the ball. A lot of people scored on Liverpool when a striker was being tracked off a crosses
Unfortunately that's because he's big and the refs let him, and similar defenders, get away with just shoving a straight arm into or across the attacking player. Kyle Walker is another example of this like he did on Vinicius half a dozen times
@@romanballista you don’t even have to try and flop against him, he’ll just shatter every bone in your body the moment he makes contact anyway 💀
“If you have to slide tackle, it means you’ve made a mistake.” - Maldini ⚽️🐐🇮🇹
Well, Maldini was an expert at clean sliding tackles. I can't believe he actually said it.
@@SufianBabriIkr, bro was literally the god of slide tackling, I dream of being as good as him at them
@@SufianBabri he didn't mean it literally, he meant the ball should never go behind you, if it does and you need to commit by sliding that means you and your team messed up. He was very hard on himself, it will technically be the entire teams fault, or atleast the entire defenses fault, but he always took the blame, and stepped up his game. Which is why he is the greatest defender of all times.
@@shivamsingh7389 didn't think of this perspective. It does make sense now.
@@SufianBabri yea, he was insane in his prime.
Also tip from someone who’s played defender all his life and his main strength is tackles - avoid going into tackles when the player has the ball glued to his feet
Also tip: Go for tackles when the player takes a big touch or commits
I know that tactic cause of Virgil van dijk so I started doing it which I prevented 9 goals in 8 match which won us 9-2 8 assists 1 goal 9 tackles
Also got to make sure to not let them back you down all the way to your goal. That’s where physicality comes in
where physicality at? the goal or before?
You can also pump fake the tackle if you have nice distance and force the defender to make his move too early
A way to counter this is a feint and attacking their weak side
The way to counter that is by looking at the eyes of attackers and where they wanna go
I got a funny story last night I had a dream I was watching a train effective short titles "best names to give to your future children of you want them to become a pro footballer" I guess ive been watching so much of this channel its gotten to my subconscious lol
How can you remember so much of your dream
@@aaravpoonekar2639 lucid dreams
The attacker dribbled to the direction where the defenders body was facing, making it easy for the defender to reach the ball.
If you wanna dribble past smart defenders like the last defender you should dribble to the direction where the defenders back is facing.
But the defender will just cut you with his right foot. The best way to face this kind of defender is to become Messi or Ronaldo. 😴
This is what i do, but a problem of mine is i do make alot of tackles and save the team alot, but most of my tackles go out for throw ins or corners
It's might help to think about defending to get your body between the attacker and the ball by using your physicality. You can still use this method with these tips
Stopping an attack and getting your team to reshape is fine keep practicing and eventually you'll win the ball and learn to counter attack
while tackling dont go for pushing it away, try to take over control of the ball, tackling isn't always about not letting the opposition have the ball, it's about taking it yourself
When the momentum is with their team, your team is out of their defensive shape, throw ins are pretty understandable and let's be real at non professional levels, most of the game is the ball going outside
Love this content as an aspiring coach big ups gents 👏👏
Defending is simple and it’s almost all body positioning, just get your body in the way and make them go round or through you.
Same as hold up play and keeping the ball, just get your body in the way.
Back then when I played in a U11 academy for indiana (I’m 13 now) I used to do tackles too early which either lead to a goal conceded or a free chance for them
I’m astonished I did that when I was 5 in school football everyone told me to commit when I knew I shouldn’t of luckily I didn’t
This is the basics of defending. Unless it’s against a really really fast player, but in most cases you’ll eventually figure out their strong foot, and jockey them to that side, or you’ll push them to the sideline which is much better than letting them in the middle. Also when you go for tackles make sure it’s before they receive the ball, or when jockeying they make a touch too far for their legs to potentially reach and turn for in another direction. But defending really is about waiting for the right moment when you consider the striker is usually at advantage in 1v1 situations. Also learning to get teammates to make 1v1 situations into 2v1 situations is extremely helpful.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a master at this.
GOD Bless us all Amen ❤ Amen 🙏
Defenders are criminally underrated
“Don’t aim for the ball, aim for the legs”- Sergio Ramos
lol more like Vinnie Jones'
if your going to commit early commit a 100% because first example could’ve won the ball if he commits to sliding tackle or extended tackle, also if you perform a tackle and don’t go in 100% you can get injured whereas if you go in 100% they are the only person at risk. sometimes it’s appropriate to slide just depends on your understanding and that’s what makes a good defender
Lol, these are just different styles.
1. Makes it fast. Low chance to win a ball. But makes an opponent move/give pass. Works best, when a teammate helps you. It is called PRESSURE. It is to be MASTERED.
2. Slow, be sure. It is for slowpokes. When you are last defender. Much eaisier to do.
Thanks for putting it beautifully. And i do exacly that. I know im faster and stronger, so its best for me that he makes a move and thats why i react and take the ball.
It satrts with me putting pressure on him.
@@vision3691 thanks.
You’d better have a good stamina, so you can attack 24/7 with style #1. (From pitch to pitch skill). Also what is bad in this style: it is quite aggressive. So, you may foul. Mind this.
If you got tired: better go to defense and use style #2, but it is more about chess, not football. Personally for me it is boring. Use style #2, untill you rested enough (normally you get tired only after hard accelerations and resting takes no more than 25 secs). Than switch to style #1 again.
P. S.
Sometimes you can even steal a ball from ~3 opponents, who think you are alone (when lazy teammates don’t help you) and they can pass all day long and you won’t be able even to touch the ball. In reality: 95% mistake after ~5 one-touch passes. All you have is to run 🏃. And switch directions. (You may show you run straight to opponent, but suddenly you accelerate to a player he gonna pass to, so, here you start the panic).
Good luck 👍🍀. Where you from?
@Старая Школа Мастеров
Yes. Stamina is the key for style 1. It might be less fun for you, but I find style 1 the most fun because I get to tackle people. I love martial arts so style one gives me a taste of it lol.
I'm from Jordan but I live in the U.S
Are you Russian my friend?
@@vision3691 yes, nearby. Belarus 🇧🇾.
Can't remember but there was a good three step process, think it's was delay cover pressure.
Closest delays till the other players are marked by the closest man then pressuring, forcing you to either pass to a covered man or dribble into a shepherded disadvantageous area.
Learn to defend as a team(line) and your realize the importance of teamwork and that you don't need to be 10/10 individually all the time
That lad with the lunge ended up in a different post code 😅
Thanks bro ❤
I actually learnt this through experience. 👍
Good advice
It also preserves energy as you don't need to chase back in a vain attempt to recover your position
Thats the most effective way
I've been doing the standing tackle a lot and it actually helps me a lot
I’m not even a defender but every time I’m trying to stop an opponent I always move my feet as if I was dribbling or doing a trick to confuse the opponent and most the time it works 😂
All about the little jump forward and back while doing this to fake the attacker that you’ve dived in by the time he has touched the ball to go past you it’s too later your already back in the right position and have easily enough time to get between ball and man
Not necessarily. I can commit and make him make a move and then take the ball from him. Its pressuring the opponent to make him make a move.
A fake press is what I usually do , I pretend I’m about to lunge in and they usually take a touch out of pressure and usually won’t be as controlled thus leading to a mistake , I don’t see anyone doing this though
I’m not an expert, but for me the slow thing doesn’t work in a 2v1 etc and you just sometimes have to make the slide or tackle to get him to go in the space where your teammates are
Ramos and Pepe:🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Defenders largely rely on waiting and pouncing in the attackers' decisions. The defender can only control so many options and your have to narrow down the attackers options - never show them the inside, block passing lanes, recognize space and opportunities, avoid over commiting, and MOST IMPORTANTLY - communicate with rest of defense on what "options" needs to be shut down.
Bro the art of defending is incredible just not slide tackles all the time
Thanks a lot
Im doing this all the time but my teammates always scream "tackle!" Even tho the attacker is way to far away and then they blame me after i didnt do what they said
Glad to know I be doing the right thing
It’s called go for the ball not the player
Never try to get past a player in first touch when a defender is delaying and tracking back ,instead draw him into challenge make a feint change of direction , with speed ,than try to get past him..
Hes also shielding the goal there
I would defened the correct way in middle school. However, I go to a school that is crazy about American football, and the soccer coaches have no idea what they are doing. So, they would always yell at me to "pressure" the ball amd immediately challenge. Now I suck. To make matters worse, every player on my team acknowledged me as the best defender by far. At the end of the year, the "Best defensive player" award went to someone who own goaled in the last minute of a sectional playoff game to equalize... 5 years later and I no longer play the sport.
PLEASR TELL THIS TO MY FOOTBALL TEAM, THEY ALWAYS SAY DONT DROP OFF AND PRESS AND IM JUST LIKE THEY HAVE THREE PEOPLE BEHIND ME, IM THE LAST MAN, PISS OFF
When i see someone going to slide tackling me, i feel that my chance to pass him is here
The last defender is like Mbappe brother, Ethan Mbappe.
Thx bro! This really helps me with sliding tackles!
Actually the 2nd one is too late as the attacker didn’t touch the ball to get past and tackles from behind usually win the ball against an average player so in conclusion if your defender is defending and delaying you should tackle from the side.
Thank you, bro
Use faints, especially if you’re quick with you feet. Did American football + track which helped me out a lottttttt when defending in football. Get comfortable with shifting your body to different positions so you don’t get caught off guard and know when to bite
The fact that I have been doing this and my friends keep yelling at me to rush in
Stop doing this to win more tackles ❌
Stop doing this to win more redcards ✅
Slowly go backwards and take advantage of the strikers mistake
keep in mind the black shirts are the train effective academy
true but sometimes u have to lunge in
East or west slide is the best
Key thing in defense is to delay
Vvd does that but the other player ( valverde ) can just pass the ball to go past him
First he didn't get past him and vvd was too late to intercept and it's more for delaying the attackers
Van Dijk doesn't need to tackle because of his aura
@@cheese2742 then y did VVD nearly get dropped by Anthony martial
I do this on fifa all the time and my mates always complain that I only tackle when they get into my third of the pitch but I just tell them positioning over pressure all day 😂
The way of defending by virgil van dijk
ima send this ti my defenders as a goal keeper
Oh I played and the grass was slippery so just just started to tackle
Thankyou
I’ve been doing this for a while, it doesn’t always work and I always get shout at by my teammates for doing it
I only commit early when I’m letting the opposition know I’m there early
You should keep the same distance until he steps up and when he steps up tackle him
Very helpful as I am a right back
2nd one wanted his leg not the ball 💀💀💀
your first job as a defender is to delay, delay, delay
Trent caught in 4k📸
When he slides we can also jump over the defender
Just saying at the end when it showed how to do it u should force them to the weak foot not strong like they showed
Real defenders will feint this early and string the attacker along into going exactly where they want.
This helps me on FIFA.⚽🎮
Forward went the wrong way. Basically ran into the defender
It's fun until the opponent is Mbappe
I think when you delay the striker it’s called jockeying if not idk
I slide tackled my friend so hard in school football he had to go to the hospital💀
Thank you
When I do this my teammate scream at me to mark the striker. I know what I’m doing for godsake.
No you don’t
Imma try this
See my coach would get mad bc I would wait
As a baller i would do quick direction change and he will be forced to tackle 😁
Last guy in red looks a whole lot like Sacha Boey...
Thàt tackle was not too early he is too far from the ball just save the tackle let him run cuz he knows your intention regain possession
But the defender if the Stricker is right foot the defender needs to be in the front with the left foot so the attacker needs to go on the left what is not easy for the Stricker
😂 not always… if you have cover coming back and you are the closest man you close the gap and stay on your feet. The mistake was sliding
But when i do this the player passes to his teamate
Thay is what i do.
Nah no timing or anything if u hear Toma toma and see Sergio Ramos running towards you ur dead
As a keeper that's why I see this as a absolute dub 💯
Messi said NO 😂
That’s called stabbing into the ball
I tried this and pulled him into the goal box and let him score 💀(I know it's crazy)
This helps grealish
Thx
My coach is preaching us "Contact is contact and contact is foul" xD "If you have contact, fall down and scream". Typical Kreisliga stuff
You can delay too long as well
