This movie broke my heart. Still haunts me today
If this movie doesn't break you you don't have a heart
It's a feel good movie for me. After watching it, I am always thankful for what i have.
Been there too
😂😂😂😊
@@reverendjimjones1043 this movie made me stare a dark monitor for 5min in the end
People complain about this song not fitting in and takes you out of the scene. I totally disagree. It displays the intense torture and panic and wanting to flee this nightmare of a life Lilja is experiencing. It doesn’t call for a sad song because she’s not feeling sadness she is feeling tortured and like there’s no escape, wherever she goes she is beat up, used, raped, bullied. And she is terrified that the cops might see her and send her back to Russia or that the connections of the pimp finds her. It’s not sad in that you want to cry, it’s a nightmare.
It's not the tone of the song but rather the melodramatic presentation of it. Also, music in films should guide you to an emotion as opposed to push you towards one.
funny how you mention a nightmare because that's literally what the song is about. nightmares
It was 2000 era. The pop rock were kindda thing, so people then would've thought it was cool.
@@SeanB-wi5yh but the nightmares represent the bad things in your life.
Another thing about the cops is that she probably doesn't trust anyone anymore after trusting her only girl friend only to be betrayed and then the "boyfriend" who sold her off. Oh and trusting her mom to come back only to find out she renounced parenting.
No, metaphorically she "wakes up" from the nightmare her life was. She dies on the ambulance.
It's a special kind of movie where you think "Oh thank God the girl died".
The strongest momment from movie. Remember when u feel sick, everything can be worse..
This movie is hard.
Yes. My heart burns.
i can't help but remember this scene everytime i hear "mein herz brennt". brings tears to my eyes.
oznydn Same here 💔
Same here, but hard to explain to others that don't know the movie why you are crying then.

@@serrie85 Then you do them a bad favour, and have them watch the movie.
Same dude I love this movie tho
One of the most powerful films I've ever witnessed.
As a cold person, there’s no movie that make me think as this. It make me think about how lucky I am in my country, with my parents, my friends. This is the hardest movie I’ve seen, and it makes me sad the fact that almost, right now in the world, a girl is suffering the same as lilja
This movie was set in the 2000s and almost 200 thousand women were kidnapped every year from Eastern Europe to be sold as sex slaves in the West...
I watched this movie first time, when I was her age... It is hard and sad, but it is also very realistic, describing the post comunist period exactly as it is. I live in country just like this now in my thirties and when I look at this, her personal tragedy and tragedy I see on the street everyday I just feel her tragedy so deep you can drown in any second... Also, her acting is amazing.
Which country is it? It can't be Russia I suggest.
@@tjuepptja9808 Serbia perhaps
It's Ukraine.
@@markmajors02 this film was filmed in estonia and in one scene the town ”narva” is mentioned which is near the russian border and has a big russian population, especially in the 90s. Also the girl who inspired this movie was from lithuania so we are probably in the baltic area
@@user-co1gi7yd2r Yes. it was also filmed in the city of Padilski, Estonia
After watching this great movie.I will never complain about my life ever again.
This movie broke my heart into a million pieces
This movie was probably the start of me becoming more interested in cinema that has some worth in it. Not the mainstream i mean. It started me becoming a Cinephile. I remembered i was numb after seeing this and it still hunts me to this day. This scene specially. It is a powerful movie and i love it. This loneliness and this poor girl.
This movie also has a very special place in my heart; just out of curiosity have you found any interesting movies that you would like to mention?
Same these movies are good and emotional fr I cried after watching
@@DrunkardCow Oh man I'm seeing this after 2 years and I'm replying to it now. Sorry for 2 Years delay. Well on an emotional level or movies that hit hard...
I mean my category has multiple factors. But You can watch them nontheless.
Gerry from Gus van Sent. A moment of Innocence. The Cloud-Capped Star. Sweet Sixteen. Kes. these come to my mind right now.
@@DrunkardCow Christiane F. is good. But the book is so much better and more heartbreaking
I will remember this movie until I die.
О Боже я не одна такая…. До самой смерти! Как глубоко сказано!!!!!!
I remember the first time i read about this movie in the newspaper... They said it was based on a true story. Every time I watch this movie, I wish that wasn't true...
This film is among the heaviest emotionally I've ever watched, I can't listen to this song anymore without feeling sad. This movie and Requiem for a dream are my favorites when we talk about "heavy movies".
This is the best movie i ever have seen... I begun to cry in this last scene, I could'nt understand how it could be so wrong!
Damn Andrej! Damn Vitek! I wish she never have met Andrej...
lilja deserved better
I will never forget you Dangoule Rasalaite
her heart is really burning, not even poetically

I saw this over 15 years ago in the cinema. Still know the venue and the exact cinema hall. I was shocked and I cried. An incredibly good movie!
What country are you from ?
@@Steezealways Germany. Why? And you?

@@jonathanwalther yes I’ve watched it on RUclips
sometimes words are just not enough
This movie could be seen as a metaphor for human life. Full of pain and struggle, but in the end that special person is waiting for us after death.
How fitting to have a song about nightmares as the final moments of a movie that depicts a modern day nightmare
Lilja..
4 ever.
Lilja-4-Ever 💫💚
One of the best movies i had watched ever.
This movie is etched into my soul forever
i kind of am not the same person i was before watching this movie. So. Good.
This scene broke my heart. She finally escaped from the pimp. Then she saw the policewoman. She should have and could have asked her for help. Instead she ran away from her and jumped from the bridge…
It could have been worse if she would come to police
This is the first and one of the few movies i cried to
Just this moment Rammstein playing this song less than kilometer away and I remembered this scene.
By the way, I can see from my window Lilya's first bridge.
Everytime the Stockholm trains stop due to someone jumping the traintracks (which happened last time for me thursday last week) I think of this movie
Are there so many suicides in Sweden?
lack of God, spirituality and hope just makes people feel worthless especially in loneliness and life struggle, you guys there just making it worse for each other
@@VigilantGuardian6750 with all due respect, I am religious and I am spiritual and still have struggled with depressions. It’s a disease, lack of seretonin.
@@annarodse Sorry but It's not a "disease", flu is a disease, not depression don't let media and society program you to be deluded cause then you will never fix it, depression is in essence your subpersonalities in your mind wanting to part ways with you and do their own thing for example, if you are obese you will have depression cause u can't watch yourself being obese and also feel like you can't help yourself, this will as result create that obese subpersonality that will attack you constantly.
If you are poor, same thing, you feel like you are either lazy or incompetent and it's giving you constant doubt aka depression, this will as result create that poor hopeless person subpersonality that will attack you constantly.
If you are philosophically unsure, for ex. you lack certainty in what happens after you die, same thing, this will as result create that spiritually insecure subpersonality that will attack you constantly.
Also don't forget that as much as the dirty water exists next to pure water there also exists fake spirituality and real spirituality, if you aren't thankful to God but instead thankful to "Universe" or "Mother nature" it will affect your subconsciously and as result make you perceive reality in less good ways as if you did it towards 1 God.
Also if you had some bad traumatic experience or just too much stress in some parts of life which gave you then anxiety and panic attacks, your rational mind is most likely disconnected from your body/being/stomach. How to fix this? Make your mind rest inside your body, practice it, become aware when your mind is too much pulled by outside forces and when it isnt etc etc
I'm a muslim btw and for me I can't imagine outside of monotheist religions some other type spirituality being true or that much useful cause ive tried it and they are all fake, Islam, Christianity and Judaism are best options and Islam the best cause it gives you full truths and have all answers.
All the best to you and dont give up.

Mein herz brennt!
😔😭que triste es esta pelicula.
Witek, the procurer, told her that if she tells the police about him and her situation, they will send her back to her country and his friends there will kill her. If I was her I would go and tell them anyway and ask them to give me lifeguards who will bring me safety.
In the true story about Dangoule Rasalaite, which the movie is based on, she avoided the police because she was told that prostitution was illegal in Sweden + her passport was fake... meaning she would probably get punished anyway
+Tille In Sweden it is against the law to pay for having sex but that you sell your body there is not against the law. And she is not the one who made the fake passport. The swedish cops can be more kind. They would help her to make a real passport or go back to her country.
I know, but SHE thought she would be punished... imagine being a scared, abused 16 year old in a foreign country Severus Jake
+Tille She haven't done anything against the law. Some people used her. And before you are 18 you are too young to be punished like go to jail.
+Severus Jake No, Im swedish and u can be punished when u turn 15. However if u have to serve jail time it will be in a special prison for youths.

Hey. Can you explain me what happens after she tried to suicide? Is she died? Is she alive? Could she go back to her country? Did that little boy (lilya's only friend) alive? Plz can you explain me?
She dies in the hospital and goes to heaven, and it shows her life starting over again if she made the right choices. It isn’t actually real, she is already dead and in heaven, it’s just a memory
She goes to heaven
