Made my first stud wall today to turn my small porch into a timber frame fortress (because building regs wouldn't settle for anything less than membrane, sheathing and 75mm PIR) Despite it being a "tad" wonky I'm grateful for your videos. Ps - erecting membrane + sheathed walls in a 2x1m porch is living hell. I have a 15 inch gap to move around the frame to get to the other side, and after lockdown my belly needs a lot more than 15 inches :(
We all have off days, I would say you did great and have spraed the roof really quickly. Many yaers ago I worked on sites learning my trade just doing roofing and joisting. Dont miss the winters, or 30deg days mind. lol
👌🏻 helps me out a lot mate been working on site carpentry for over 11 years now and never have I been asked to do a pyramid trussed roof and your video with the hip helped me breeze it .. time is money I suppose bud and these tips certainly help out In that area
Morning Del, like the bracing method of joining it on one so it’s tight in the truss. 👏🏻. Makes it look better if left open. I think all trusses should be that big .. so I can reach the ridge. 😂. Single story buildings only. 👊🏻
Hi Dan. 👋 I know my bracing method isn't what the truss manufacturers/NHBC want, but, I think it makes the job easier, looks better and keeps the bracing closer to the connection points.👍Nailing a bit of bracing over the joint to the truss each side only uses 600mm more timber than lapping the joint over two trusses anyway.😎 Building control are always happy👊 It's always a treat working on cute little roofs like this mate no matter how tall you are😆 Thanks for watching mate, and your comment 😎 Have a good week👍
Hi Mark. I think I was just a bit tired, and it feels like its been a long year so far. I shouldn't be grumpy as this is a brilliant job and I get to spend all day with my brother🤩 Thanks for watching mate, and your comment 😎 Have a nice weekend 👍
Fantastic series, thanks for time you take to explain it must add considerable time to your jobs so thanks. Could i ask the best place to order the trusses, timber, cladding etc. I am going to be flattening a terrible double concrete garage that i have and building almost exactly what you have done here, i have most of the tools just need to invest in a nail gun, any advice on that too please. Planning permission sorted so guessing that was my biggest hurdle.
Hi Mark🖐I'm glad you've found the videos helpful👍With regards materials, it really depends on what timber/builders merchants you have close to you, and I would suggest that you go down to these places and have a look at the stuff for yourself and also take to the staff about your expectations when it comes to buying these expensive material👊 Good luck with your build and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi Sandy🖐 I normally keep the truss 50mm in from the inside of the gable, A, to take the ceiling boars, and B, so that services like plumbing and electrics can go up the wall and into the loft space👍Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Just bought one of those chopsaws u recommended. I want the 12inch flexivolt but they seem impossible to find in England. Unless you shop online and order from abroad, but the thought of spending that much money and having to wait god knows how long would drive me mad. So I settled for the smaller one you recommended for now. Got a load of cornice and pelmets to do tomorrow. Should be fun.
