I agree this was more social/pity pandering than anything. If it was done objectively, we would’ve seen a radically different outcome. Also it’s interesting why the conversation of masculinity has to be brought up which changes based on socio-cultural norms in a video that was meant to rate physical attractiveness. I dare to say those who throw the word toxic masculinity around just do it to score social points. I personally feel like that term has lost its weight.

As someone that is unattractive I always found this very frustrating because there is a complete incongruity with how people would rate you in scenarios such as this vs your actual lives experience. Like for example, aggression, dominance, etc I would all consider masculine. That's what i thought too. Most people are average looking or just above average when it comes to physical beauty (this is proven by bell curve distribution) but it is the thinking of "Everyone is equally beautiful (physically)" NO, WE DON'T and there's nothing wrong or anything bad for being average looking. This type of pandering and lies that supposed to be lifting up each other they said are actually just creating self-confusion bcs the reality of life will always be the reality not everyone has a privilege from beauty in life. You can improve your looks but the your full potential still depends on your genetics. If that potential is you just born being average looking, then focus on something else in life maybe you have other gifts like intelligence on something or talents.

Was incredibly obese in my early puberty ages, got people whom close to me saying "no no you're totally fine, nothing is wrong with you!" yet when I go out and met strangers, they obviously treated me a bit differently. At the beginning I thought they were right, so I stayed obese for couple of years and do nothing. But eventually I knew it was a lie so it made my BD worse overtime and I developed an ana. I still struggle with it to this day. People usually don't consider my face ugly, some even rated me above the average but ofc my weight had a lot to do with my acne etc and affect my appearance so much. I wish people around me were being honest from the start. Let's stop sugarcoating everything. Not everyone is attractive, not everyone is physically beautiful and it is okay to be ugly or average looking.

I really don't get why the guy in the denim jacket was ridiculed when he argued masculinity has something to do with our biology. He did not find the words to explain his views properly, but what he said was not an outright nonsense. Yet, people in these videos always try to make it appear like any other idea outside the social construct theory is unacceptable or something we should just laugh at. Even though I agree, that masculinity is a social construct it doesn't mean it has nothing to do with our biology and sex hormones which are associated with the development of certain physical features, male-typical behavioural patterns percieved as masculine. On the other hand there are many social norms incorporated into our idea of masculinity, but it's not purely a social construct in my opinion. So both of them can be right, but it's really difficult to have an intelligent discourse when you're automatically laughed at, and intentionally ridiculed.

What makes you look good, is how you are using colors, textures and shapes to embrace features in your body, obviously depending on your body shape and what you want to pop up. You dont have to wear boring gray colors to be attractive, every person depending on their skin tone, hair and eye color have a set of colors that make you pop up, also shapes that benefit a type of body in specific, so yes a man can wear a top and a skirt and look good depending of what type of cut it has and what type of shape he has.

I wouldn't say faces are completely objective. There's objective conventional attractiveness and subjective attraction coexisting most of the time and just how much of that is cultural influence we can't really be so sure of. There's plenty of people who are physically attracted to objectively less attractive faces. At least I speak for myself, there's a lot of jarring or weak facial features that I find that I love in people. I also have realized I'm REALLY attracted to features that oppose what I've been exposed to in my country. I had a pretty bad relationship with my family and I was kind of the black sheep so I never really liked or related to them or our Portuguese culture in general so I often projected my attention towards foreign stuff that contradicted the cultural values I was taught. Now as an adult I find myself incredibly drawn to stereotypically nordic, english or germanic features. Honestly never gave this much thought to faces but it's really interesting 😭

I too believe that being kind is important, but when everybody is fake it's refreshing to see someone being more real to themselves- and he wasn't rude by no means. And in my opinion that's what makes him more masculine than other guys, including the narrator of this video. Men are *on average* more assertive, more dominant, blunter, more direct and more courageous- to say that is not sexist towards women, it;s just how the testosterone affects people and men happen to have more of it. Of course you can be a woman and possess those qualities or be a man and be a complete opposite of that, but if we are talking about masculinity and feminity, those ideas are not created out of thin air, the have their basis in the statistics.

On the whole gym thing it's actually wild when you think about how little people go to the gym in western countries and how easily it is for men to shoot up in the "Physical" attractivness scale just by losing a bit of weight and adding muscle in the favourable areas like chest shoulders triceps/traps and a bit in the biceps and forearms.
Consider this, In Australia 2 in 3 Adults aged 18 or over were overweight or obese and 36 percent were overweight but not obese and 31 percent were obese.
In men the figure is higher 75 percent of men are obese or overweight.
Even just by losing a good bit of weight as a guy can shoot you up the "Physical attractiveness" scale and you can easily go from a 3-4 to a 4-5 just by doing that assuming you've got ok facial features.
I personally went from hovering around 105kg as a 5ft 9 male (So obese to morbidly obese) than dropped down to 73kg but went back up a bit to hovering around 77-78kg and by adding a small bit of muscle (Nothing extreme) I notice i get more looks from both genders.
I think we're all a bit hard on ourselves but i guess that's the competitive nature of been a male is that we're always sorta looking at the competition and putting so, soo much pressure on ourselves to the point that it's probably giving us needless self-esteem issues (I'm not exactly innocent of this) and if you're going to the gym (Although gyms are a friendly envrioment) that competition "Thinking" gets worse because you're already around above average men vs been around average men.
The whole attractiveness thing is such a surprisngly complicated topic.

That being said, I also don’t think gender is completely a social construct. I believe it’s a mixture of both biological and social, because the social aspects are still again, influenced by our biology as men and women. Even in the DSM-5, they still stated that despite what social constructionists say, gender is still influenced by our biology.
