I agree freehand is quicker. However, you need to have a good quality brush. I have found that the low cost brush bristles get distorted easily and don't keep that crisp straight edge. Having said that, good quality brushes are expensive, painters tape is a bit cheaper. Yes, the brushes can be used over and over, but unless you're a painter by trade, the cost savings of using the tape works out better for the avg. 1 or 2 times you'll paint your rooms. Plus the tape has multiple purposes, not just for painting. Just my experience. I've gotten better at doing baseboards freehand and keep a wet rag handy for any excess. Painting should never be rushed, it's an artform in itself.
Thank you for sharing your experience and all of this information. I’m tempted to pin your comments to the top because this is good stuff. Thanks again. 😊👍🏼
You've got a nice channel- lots of practical info for the home owner/ DIYer, subscribed! And thanks for providing your time to demonstrate these useful tips.
Plus painters tape got so expensive… spend the extra $ on a good brush. ( you can use a brush over and over / tape ends up in the trash when you’re done)

If you keep a wet rag handy you can wipe off any mistakes. Save a bunch of money on tape. That tip was off This Old House.
I agree. Man I love This Old House. I highlight their channel as one of my favorites at the bottom of my channel’s home page

freehand for sure. Quicker and cheaper.
Ha… I 100% agree with you 👍🏼
Tape is just for the one who have no better idea of painting. Pro can do without tape
I agree with you. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
