Просмотров 4,5 тыс.День назад
Vinyl plank flooring was to designed address some of the problems with laminate, but in the end, they don't quite hold up. The reality is that vinyl planks have a major problem. They are too thin and bendy for the job at hand, especially if the floor isn't perfectly level. They often introduce an unattractive wavy look to the floor that you don't get with laminate. Fix Vinyl Siding Cracks Fast - Best Method
I used duct tape I had laying around years ago. Still holding up strong.
No no no. Absolutely no. I cannot believe this 😂. Being a flooring professional for a long time I would refuse this work. Everyone has to eat though. To each their own. No manufacturer or highly professional advisor would cover this work. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
You don't need a second GFCI Receptacle on the Outside, just use the load terminals on the inside GFCI receptacle and put a weatherproof regular receptacle on the outside. Thanks, Russ, 29 years in the Electrical Trade
Thanks exactly just what I needed. I never really trusted the ones tht come with kits. I just noticed mine is failing on my paper towel holder. But I'm unsure, how youtube knew to put it in my feed suggestions, as I only made mental note that I needed to fix it. I started to mention it to my wife, but didn't get around to telling her. I'm befuddeled how youtube knew my inner thoughts.
Used heat gun doesn’t it??

Well, after this video, laminate of course!
Documentation & Presentation - Nice
Try again
My detector is hard wired but also includes battery place inside and I have inserted a battery in. When the battery is low it complains, am I using a wrong model?
I use them both regularly, a lot in basements the past 4 years. In my opinion, just like most things they both have their plusses and negatives. As far as the vinyl goes, as long as you stay above 6 mils think or more, I have never had a failure. Then again I would never install over carpet under any circumstance. With both I bring it to a sub-floor, put down a good vapor barrier and have never had an issue.
Nice video, thanks. We just laid a traditional carpet in our basement bedroom. The rest of the basement we are considering using carpet tiles. How difficult will it be transitioning a traditional carpet installation with an underlay to the new carpet tiles?
Hello from Texas: Where in the United States can I find vinyl siding to replace a strip that was damage by golf ball. I went to all the local hardware stores and specialty roofing supplies places but that told my that it vinyl is no longer sold or manufactured. Apparently, manufacturers are only making fiberglass, aluminum and other non vinyl siding. Thanks you, Luis
Actually the only reason that laminate would be coming back would be the millions of square footage that is taking up space at the manufacturers plant. And encouraging their sales reps to push laminate due to overproduction of Laminate and taking space and lost sales.
If you can access the flooring from underneath, there are dozens of simple ways to eliminate the sweeps, like shims, screws, glue etc.
Still beeping. Date says 12/23/16 replace in 10 years. I have fully powered down all of them and replaced the battery before plugging them back in.. still beeping. Any suggestions?
Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything else you can do but replace the whole units. If I’m reading your comment correctly, they are eight years old. I know it seems like a pain in the butt, but it’s still a great investment in yourfamily’s safety. Just go ahead and replace all of those smoke detectors. My guess is one of them is faulty and setting the other ones off.
Awesome tutorial, thank you!
Thanks for watching and taking time out of your day for responding to my video. I appreciate it.
Everything depends on the sub floor quality and locking mechanism on the planks. I finished installing 1600 square feet of oak and maple solid 3/4 inch planks and like those best. Tried LVP for the kitchen over tiles but have had problems with the locking system the long way. The floor moves too much when you walk on it even though it is within specs for expansion. So, I'm trying some double sided floor tape that claims to retain tackiness for 30 years on the last two rows. We'll see. For the TV room it may be laminate over the Bruce glue down planks I put in 31 years ago. So, it is concrete with Bruce glue down planks with cork with laminate or LVP. Which would you choose for this?
If you do LVP honestly I don’t think you’ll be happy because it’s too thin and shows unevenness. I would definitely do laminate or cork. I don’t have much experience with cork though to be honest. There are so many good quality laminate floors out there on the market now and the locking systems are excellent. Good luck.
@@HomeRapidRepair The cork I am thinking would be an underlayment. The house would be warmer. It get's very cold around here. There are so many new products now that didn't exist 32 years ago when we first moved into the house.
i watched your video on LVP vs laminate, what do you think about these vinyl tiles vs LVP for a waterproof option? my laminate is slightly warped in small area from water damage so i assume it would need to be removed before sticking vinyl tile on the concrete subfloor?
Yes, if waterproofing is your biggest concern, you will always win with vinyl planks or vinyl peel and stick. Over concrete you might want to check if the vinyl peel and stick or glue down method will work well for you and stick properly. Otherwise I would just do a LVP floor and you’ll be happy with it over Concrete.
This type is so big, sticks out so much 😢
Yeah, I think I agree with your observations. But even professional electricians install these all the time. This way you don’t have to drill into the wall and risk hitting anything etc. etc. Good luck.
It’s cost!
In the video, each of these planks were approximately three dollars a square foot USD
For the love of all that is good PLEASE NEVER DO THIS. Sure it’s easy, but this could just as easily cause a fire. I know you’re just trying to help everyone but please, this is not the way. Always, ALWAYS wrap the wire into a “J” and use the side screws.
Thanks for watching. The newest outlets don’t even need J hooks on the wire anymore, they have pressure plates that you can screw down with Phillips screwdriver. They work excellent. But not the $.99 outlets. You have to upgrade to the mid quality ones about two dollars to three dollars each outlet ⚡️👍🏼😊
ROFL honestly if your trying to sale something first get a perfect color match 2nd lol stop looks horrible.

Great Info, thanks for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching my little video 😊👍🏼
Laminate delaminates near any outside door. Edges also swell from any moisture.
I agree that’s the problem with laminate flooring. However have you seen all the new waterproof varieties of laminate flooring now available?
@@HomeRapidRepair Tearing up the 90% of my floor to fix the 10% isn't a good idea.
Well so this is helpful but wrong. When installing a outlet downstream of an GFCI you don't have to install another GFCI. Also when feeding off of a GFCI you use the screws under the yellow tape. And always hook up the ground first.
All your points are valid. I chose to use a GFCI outlet for this demonstration video 👍🏼😊
Very helpful thank you for the video 😊
You are welcome, thanks for watching 👍🏼😊
You're fired
Probably true 👍🏼🫣😳😂
You made a mistake you Should have connected the neutrals first on that receptacle in the basement first before hooking up the hots
Thank you for watching. What you say is a preference not a mistake…but yes the logic you reference is sound ⚡️👍🏼

How well does Bondo hold up in hi heat sun locations? Generally vinyl siding expands and contracts - the concern is about the Bond hole edges cracking.
It’s been used on auto body work for years and they get hot and expand some too. Although vinyl is legendary for how much it moves. So far this Repair is still looking perfect from a cosmic point of view. I’m in a cold climate, but sometimes we do get 90°F here on a rare hot summer day.
Just make sure you aren’t too close to a stud, because this new ones are wider
Thanks for the warning 👍🏼😊🛠️

I have the laminate flooring throughout my house and I don't like it at all. Every room has damage within the first 2 years. Nothing modern compares to true hard wood flooring.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m starting to see a pattern of people loving the look, feel, and warmth of real wood floors 👍🏼😊
these "newer" plastic anchors are very convenient.. but because I'm old school.. I've kept a few of the older metal molly and toggle bolts
I think you’re doing great. 👍🏼🛠️🛠️

Thank you for watching. However this product was already mailed to a viewer months ago 👍🏼😊
Had a company few years back that just used glue on vinyl planks no locking on sides just glue on the concrete & hold well, only thing is surface has to not have any small chips in concrete or will show bubble but for most part looks good.
Thanks for sharing your experience with vinyl flooring 👍🏼😊
1. Today, as opposed to not long ago, laminate had issues with moisture, that did not require a spill to effect, thus, you could look across the floor and see every joint. Look for waterproof, not water resistant. 2. To demonstrate a wavy floor with LVP, you use pictures of the glue-down or loose-lay. If you want to see the install requirements for both, go to the Mohawk site where they sell both. The laminate requires a flatter floor than their LVP. It also requires a greater expansion gap. Laminates expand and contract more than SPC LVP. 3. With regard to the fragile locking system shown, you get that with cheap, thin planking, and/or with a poor core. You will never find laminate at thin as LVP because its core is nowhere near as strong as LVP which is heavy, strong, and made of rock bound together with resin, like a quartz countertop, and why it is so heavy and can span nicked up subfloor. That's like comparing wood and steel with the wood being much thicker. 4. The thickness required for laminate is a problem all by itself, and by the tie you add the pad that is normally incorporated with LVP, you are crowding 1/2" instead of less than 1/4". That makes for some ugly transitions and irreversible changes to the position of wall registers that typically go down to the floor level where you can often skate in the registers with no major changes. 5. Both laminates and LVP have a protective layer. LVP has a wear layer. A good laminate is very good at protecting its wood photograph because it has to be. They use an AC rating to reflect its abrasion resistance. 6. Laminate's market share has always been based on price. It got buried by LVP because due to better performance and installed price. The money to invest in changing the composition of laminates' core and install costs came from the increased price of LVP. 7. Both floating products compete in the same market space. Any improvement in laminate market share will be at the cost of LVP market share. 8. Laminate tends to look more like real wood with more variations, which is why I'm sturggling with making laminate fit on the next large-scale project. The detractors are installation costs, raising wall registers with no going back, and the size of transitions.
I think you’ve got a lot of good points in your comments here. You crushed it with one great point after another. I assume you’re in the flooring industry?.? As you know the average homeowner isn’t going to research or read anything, will just shop based on price. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼😊
