This car put the smiles back to me after a long time and all for the right reasons: 1. Manual Transmission 2. V8 3. Pure RWD In short a real driver's grand tourer Cars like these are getting rarer and rarer these days we seem to be getting more and more of automated, hybrid, electric (in future self driving) and all the techno gizmo nonsenses, far removed from the spirit of the automobile and the joy of driving. The review was brilliant, keep up the good work Craig and thanks Chevy for this car
"It's not for technology" What? The car parks itself, has Internet access, magnetic shocks, and launch control, that's a lot of technology for any automobile.
+Doug FA Right there with ya. I drive an 06 Focus ST and my dream car is the new Shelby GT350, but there's something about the SS that I just get sucked into. Really a great car by Chevy.
What´s wrong whith the design? I think it looks great. The stick would be a huge plus in my book plus the price is unrivaled. Fuel consumption is not much better with the competitors.
He should have highlighted the self parallel parking feature which is similar to Ford's. This car seems a bargain for all the performance and features it has for less than $50k. The Germans nickel and dime you for all their separate options packages.
FF to 2021. Its not a great value as it is currently valued. Your 2015 back 5 yrs was msrp at approx 47K. Could be negotiated to 39K on a buy. Today, 2021, a 2015, with very low mileage, pristine condition, no mods, will bring 41K to 43K. In fact, the SS is becoming an investment grade collector car.
I hate modern vehicles with a burning passion but this is imho the only good looking car made these days, and I love that it's avalible with a manual transmission! Just too many cars these days have all automatics it's ridiculous. Good to see another car with a manual transmission option!!!
I'm really enjoying the reviews you guys provide us. I follow most of the major car review channels on here and I like your videos the best. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated!!
i have to tell u this ,, at first ,, u were a joke but im glad how you managed to shift your reviews into joyful and funny content fused with specs and facts whatever you are doing ,,, keep it up .
People should really consider driving experience vs only considering hp #'s and straight line performance. The auto industry will focus more on providing cars that not only go fast but corner & brake too. This car is very appealing to me
its almost AMG looking in certain areas, kinda older Malibu, a lot of Holden, its not ugly its not super sexy its a good car for those who like sound and power but dont want all of the attention.
This was the most amazingly well thought out and put together videos I have ever witnessed (for a review). I loved it! I wish everyone put this much time/effort into making the viewer experience NEXT LEVEL! You got one more sub :D
Been strongly considering one of these alongside a Chrysler 300 SRT8. It's arguable which car looks better, but on tech they're pretty much equal. The SS will handle and perform better (if maybe not in a straight line), and the manual is hard to pass up (especially since the Chrysler has an old-as-dirt 5-speed auto). I think the MR shocks seal the deal for me.
I love Steve Hammes, Alex on Autos, and TFL Car/Truck can be pretty great too, when Nathan isn't passing out from drugs, but YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE BEST!!!!! The editing and music beats everyone by far, including overly narcissistic Motor Trend! MAKE MORE VIDEO REVIEWS!!!! I love them. I'd love to see a video review on the Power Wagon Laramie and the Challenger R/T Scat Pack (not Shaker).
First off great review man! I wish the car had more of an aggressive stance & body style but i love the fact that has a manual option! Overall great car.
Autoguide.. Seriously.. ditch the other presentors. This guy is commentary gold. The others bore me. He's funny and honest. I actually want to watch his reviews.
Now that is how everyone should do a car review. If I buy one, the first thing I will do is remove all the SS badging and replace it Chevy Malibu logos and add a Vortec belt driven super charge blowing throe a water to air intercooler. A low key color would also add the stealth factor.
At 2:20, there is a great example of why this car is so much less money. Check out that headliner flex when he pushes the sunroof button. That kind of cheapness is EVERYWHERE in a car like this, BUT you get what you pay for so it's OK AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING.
I've never had the opportunity to attempt to drive a manual. I'm 33 and idk Jack about driving a manual. Idk if I would want to deal with switching gears here in the busy city of Dallas. I wonder how the auto is?
beebop shopbop I've driven manuals for many years. I wanted to get a 2016 SS in manual but they were all sold out in my region. But I'm impressed with the Auto - it's not a dual clutch system like my DSG GTI, so not as quick when you shift it yourself (paddles or shifter). But move the lever to Sport Mode, select Performance or Track/Competitive and the auto comes alive. It's a blast for an auto. Overall a fun and high quality car for my family.
That sounds good. It would make the SS an even more practical choice for US residents. It's odd that they would do that considering that it's much more popular in Australia though. I'm kind of hoping that they will make the next version of the SS on the Alpha platform that they are using for the ATS-V and Camaro. It would make sense for those cars to share a factory.
It won't be built in America. This is an Australian car with only the drive train being American. Once production in Australia ceases in 2017 so will this car. The next commodore will be a front wheel drive import from most likely Opel and won't feature a V8. But Holden has promised us a rear wheel drive V8 sourced from most likely the US. And yes, this car is very popular in Australia. It is the 3rd most selling car following the Mazda 3 and the 6 year in a row leader the Toyota Camry. The next best selling Holden is the Cruze, which is also manufactured in Australia, but the American Cruze isn't. After 2017 Holden will import all its model line up, as well as Toyota and Ford who are also pulling the pin on Australian manufacturing, with Ford stopping in 2016 and Toyota in 2017.
The factory has closed and your GM CEO has also killed the brand. Holden is no more. So buy one quickly because they are now appreciating in value...collectors here in Australia and in the US are buying them. I own the 3.6 V6 mid-spec model and although it took the depreciation hit all new cars do when you take them off the dealer's lot it is now APPRECIATING in value. Owners of low mileage Holdens are making good money on the secondhand market.
@@tripsadelica I don't think they're actually appreciating that much. The owners with sales listings think they are appreciating, so they are listing the prices higher. However, they are not selling. Maybe if they keep them listed at the same price for 5 years or so they might sell.
The good news about the looks is the cops won't bat an eye as this thing drives past. They'll probably think you're one of them; "Was that Tommy from central booking??" That being said, it does need to be about $6-8k less...
I agree that the manual is one of the standout, non-available-on-other-cars feature, but I would argue that Magneride is exactly as non-available on all its competitors' cars.
I like this. It's a big car with lots of room, and it has a manual transmission option. It's a sleeper... Understated looks don't draw a lot of attention, but the drivetrain packs a punch when it's time to go. For a reasonable amount of money, you can make it much faster. ;)
Look at the way its is outfitted here in australia as the commodore SSv redline it looks a lot better, im not sure why the Americans want it in this drab plane jane appearance, perhaps to use as unmarked cop cars?? Test drove one yesterday and really impressed and sad commodore is ceasing production here..I guess we will have to stick Japaneses performance cars in the future.
Your Hellcat will be a dime a dozen b4 to long and YES I hope it would beat the SS considering the HP differences, but in everything else "your" Hellcat will loose.
keri ellerbe Not to mention the price difference, there's a solid $20k price gap between this and the hellcats. And the SS will definitely out-handle the hellcats on any track.
Vernon Price Im not even a fan but damn. Hellcat Charger looks like a beast. The SS is 30 years behind, looks boring as hell. Only thing that shows are the brembo calipers
Shawn Moses So you buy cars solely based on looks and nothing else? That's too bad, because if you were an actual driving enthusiast you would understand why you'd want the SS.
Vernon Price chevy's look like shit, period!!! Only one's I personally would buy, are the c6 and c7. I said hellcats look better because when they tail gate you, they look angry and they have the power to beat your ass
Iv'e owned one, and they are quiet a nice car, they perform well enough, but yes use a bit too much fuel. Seats are very comfortable for traveling long distances, and the cabin is quiet good, with minimal tyre rumble, the gear lever in the Auto model feels quiet cheap and flimsy, and the chrome strips are likewise not up to par. But as I say, the car is a hell of a drivers car if you like traveling quickly. Sure there are better cars at this price point, but the SS is really a good handling, performance / comfortable touring car. In my opinion, you should take a drive, they really aren't half bad...honestly. But then thats my personnel opinion.
Mark Law what are the better cars at that price point? Looking around, this is a really great price/performance. I'm really curious as I'm in the market for something full-sized.
rantanamo There are no better cars in this segment at this price point. If you are looking at it strictly on price and performance, then the Charger SRT is the only other vehicle, and they are both similar, not one is better than the other. These 2 vehicles occupy the same space on the performance ladder, but they go about it in 2 different ways. The Charger SRT is faster in a straight line and gets slightly better gas mileage. The SS has the driving dynamics of a BMW M5 and has a manual option, it will also have better resale value due to it's rarity. Those are the differences, choose based on which aspects you want your car to have. The other vehicles in this segment are the Mercedes E400 and BMW 550i, which both start at almost $20k more, and the Taurus SHO, which has AWD but handles like a boat and isn't as quick.
rantanamo I'm Australian, we have the Ford XR6 Turbo, and G6E Turbo, and the XR8 Supercharged, these cars out gun the Chevy SS/ Holden SS, and even the HSV Cars. This is taken on a purely performance point of view. I have owned both, they both have positives and some negatives, which is how all cars are, but the Holden has the better interior of the two....Easily.
Street Speed 717 That's quiet funny, this was my main focus of cheap ways car companies can save money, but it shows so obviously in this case, it felt very flimsy. Every time you put the car into gear, you were reminded of how Holden/Chevy nickel and dime their customers. Letting themselves and their products down, were customers can Really Notice.
Love this car, very stealthy. I'm a fan of stealth cars as frankly, cops (and assuming thieves) never look at them and there is something to be said for going, "Unnoticed" until you choose otherwise during your daily drive. I had an MB E55 modded to 700 HP and nobody gave it a second glance which I really liked. So each to his own, but I really like this car. :)Alex
If this car came with that same V8 and transmission, but cost 30-35 grand; I would buy it TODAY. Trade my mustang in and piss my wife off just to have this car. But damn, 45k is too much. If they cut that fancy luxury stuff out and gave a base model with just power windows, locks, cloth seats and no big screen thing, then with out a doubt I would get it, because then I could even fit my kids in the back. And I am so glad that they gave is a manual for this year, bravo Chevy, and this is coming from someone who bleeds blue. Until then I will continue to love my Mustang, because I gotta have a Manual V8 RWD that is more raw and less luxurious.
Those other cars you mentioned the Chevy Caprice is the comparable vehicle to these in Australia this is a Commodore it is a SS Commodore we have Caprice and CapriceV in this series and they have the same V8 but only in Automatic and you don’t buy these for fuel efficiency
@@StreetSpeed717 It's a Holden, Street Speed. We also have a huge history of muscle cars in Australia going way back. Hector is right. This car was not designed in the US by Chevy but by Holden at their Melbourne Design studio and fully engineered there as well.
You can also get a 6 speed manual in a V-6 Honda Accord - the same size as this, far better reliability and gas mileage, 285hp and 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. 40K for a Chevy? Yeah, no thanks.
Why not go one better and take all the bow ties off and fit Holden Lion badges. The mount holes are identical. No US person will know what you are driving.
Why is it that GM MPG is so low compared to the Dodge Charger/Challenger SRT. If I remember right, the Dodges weight more, make more horsepower but get better gas mileage. Hmmmm
This car put the smiles back to me after a long time and all for the right reasons:
1. Manual Transmission
2. V8
3. Pure RWD

you wouldn't buy one for the styling? I thinks it's gorgeous
joe blessing you can easily customize it and make it look more aggressive too.
"It's not for technology"
What?
The car parks itself, has Internet access, magnetic shocks, and launch control, that's a lot of technology for any automobile.

Oh yeah... The new GT350 is sweet too! It's a good time for car enthusiasts. The problem for me is being able to afford these new cars. LOL
That's right gents. We live in the new Golden era of muscle, and I am glad to be alive during it.
You know what? I like this guy. No homo. No homopho.
Hey man, what's wrong with being a homophobe huh??
Ethanmeister No homophopho.
+Tawfiqur Rahman No lisp
Lmao at the annotations to build an SS, its probably like
1) option 1: sunroof
2) option 2: no sunroof
Full size spare option as well
This thing is gorgeous to me for some reason.
The Impala is FWD and the 300 looks to bloated to me, I've heard good things about them though
Same. Reminds me a lot of the G8 which is one of my favorites. This car looks beautiful.
+Spruskinzie mooskenzie it practically is a G8 GXP.
Reviewers shouldn't give their opinion on the looks, that's the one thing that we can decide for ourselves without driving it; thank you very much.
+YourGodsIcon I disagree. I want to know what other people think about the look of the car.
What´s wrong whith the design? I think it looks great. The stick would be a huge plus in my book plus the price is unrivaled. Fuel consumption is not much better with the competitors.

When will GM ditch the chrome?
Stig Msr For REAL
soo agree. it makes it look cheap and tacky
Stig Msr Especially on the fucking wheels (even though I believe those are polished aluminum, but still).
Rock7132 The wheels look great in that finish.
Stig Msr They don't have to ditch the chrome. You can buy it and get rid of it yourself. Wrap or paint them over. Problem solved

I gave this video a thumbs up before I even watched it, just because this guy is doing it! He's awesome and funny as hell!
craig cole has done it again! bravo.
I love this guy. Plus an awesomely understated car. Good Job!
So, is this Chevy's "cheaper" version of the Caddy CTS-V? I assume it's the same platform. the wheelbase is the same, between the SS and the CTS.

Good luck finding a manual however. When I bought mine (2015 June) it was the only one available in California, the next closest stick was in Idaho.
I just bought a manual in July of 2018 it’s a 2017 with 6 speed manual it has 3000 miles on it I had to drive to San Antonio from Dallas to get it.
If you are standard guy(even my SUV has a manual-2012 Xterra), the little segment to soak in the cars manual transmission was hilarious.
beautiful car
Isn't the Holden factory closing soon? Where will these be made, I'm assuming that they still import them like they did with the G8?
Supposedly the Holden factory will close in 2017. And the current SS should be built in North America by this year 2015. That's what I've heard.
That sounds good. It would make the SS an even more practical choice for US residents. It's odd that they would do that considering that it's much more popular in Australia though. Those other cars you mentioned the Chevy Caprice is the comparable vehicle to these in Australia this is a Commodore it is a SS Commodore we have Caprice and CapriceV in this series and they have the same V8 but only in Automatic and you don’t buy these for fuel efficiency
Maybe in black it would look better, so its prob just a v series?
If I had a better job, more money and wasn't buying a 09 Ford CVPI I would consider this. This car is bad ass. Too bad I'm just starting out XD
The slapped SS on a Malibu.
This guy is funny...I like his reviews. The SS is a brilliant car. The bland styling just makes it the perfect sleeper.
I love it, I own one that's how much I like it's a great car all round. Now I'm aiming for the zl1 1le Camaro giving the ss to my wife
I'm going to save up some cash, buy this car with automatic transmission and send it to this guy in the video.
Great review.
Maybe something is wrong with me. I think the exterior is pretty cool
Entertaining review! I can tell this car was not designed in the USA because of the manual gearbox and rear wheel drive.
Hector Rivera You mean the country that created muscle cars? lol
Street Speed 717 LOL... I would not call this Chevy SS a muscle car, this falls more in the Sports Sedan category competing with European sedans.
@@StreetSpeed717 It's a Holden, Street Speed. We also have a huge history of muscle cars in Australia going way back. Hector is right. This car was not designed in the US by Chevy but by Holden at their Melbourne Design studio and fully engineered there as well.
Hilarious editing
Nice review. That Price tag though.. I dunno about that one. Also... First?
I love this guy
Very nice video!!!
In 20 years, when this becomes a "Classic", no one will know how to drive a manual transmission car!!🤣
The ultimate (cool) dad mobile!
I love this car. I wish i had known about it before i bought my Mustang GT.
+Germain Gonzalez You could always trade up.

good job senpai the video was glorious.
this CHEVY may have bland stylin', 4 a performance model but, it has waaaaaaaay more COLORFUL options that I found interesting, in a good way.
You can also get a 6 speed manual in a V-6 Honda Accord - the same size as this, far better reliability and gas mileage, 285hp and 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. 40K for a Chevy? Yeah, no thanks.
+Milford Civic Honda Accord vs Chevy SS LOL
If I owned one, I would remove the SS lettering and put a Malibu badge on it. Thats all you need to convert it to a sleeper - if that!
Why not go one better and take all the bow ties off and fit Holden Lion badges. The mount holes are identical. No US person will know what you are driving.
I live in the DMV and only seen 1 SS. Bad ass car but no one buys them
Why is it that GM MPG is so low compared to the Dodge Charger/Challenger SRT. If I remember right, the Dodges weight more, make more horsepower but get better gas mileage. Hmmmm
+Dialysisforever i would guess the transmission
This guy is great!
So this car goes against the 392 while Caddy goes against hellcat?
lol @ the G8 driving in the background :D
Cole is the best.
You guys are fucking hilarious. Well done with the Pontiac creeping by in the background . Lol
bwhaahahaha 1:05
It just rolled off the tongue perfect.
That G8..
