a true to god Railgun is just two rails and a shit-ton of capacitance discharge to cause the magnetic flux to accelerate the sled, coilguns use advance timing techniques to accelerate the thing. the more magnetic power and pulse you use, the faster you can get it, but the risk is the electronics can run into issues from that magnetic pulse
