His stunted growth should have prompted a simple blood test to look for thyroid deficiencies. Yes it sounds odd that the Chester zoo website says that the baby orangutan had been "under the expert care....for a number of years" and it took them about that long to diagnose low thyroid. Also the website doesn't mention Tripa's age and date of euthanization.

I agree. I'll also never understand why they bred his mum so early in his life, when they knew this poor little fella wasn't where he should have been.
I can definitely empathize with Tripa - I had hypothyroidism since childhood. Given that orangutans have 97% of our human DNA, I shouldn't be surprised that hypothyroidism is something they can suffer.
Ultimately, It is best that the animal is now gone and out of reach of the cruel, negligent and uncaring "zoo keepers" and "vets" that were just exploiting it for money and attention. So the animal was half the size the it should have been, was weak and frail and lethargic. So after years they FINALLY checked him out phyically, but not before his thyoid problem damaged is heart. They then try to end this video as a feel good story. It's not. It is a tale of neglect and incompetent. By the way, he still looks sick.
Maybe now with the thyroid hormone replacement therapy, he will start getting some hair growth back!!! Holy Moly! The poor little guy is practically bald! That should have been one of their FIRST clues he had a thyroid deficiency! Hair loss is a MAJOR symptom of a thyroid problem…
"trips" wouldn't have lasted long in the wild due to weak genes and so forth. he actually a terrible candidate for the progress of the orangutan species. there's gonna be more problems later down the line.
I agree in the wild he would have probably died even sooner. It seems that as well as being physically under developed he was also a bit slow in mental development
I cannot understand how these "zoo keepers" can perform in front of a camera and talk innocently about a problem they caused. Even as actors they would be considered garbage. They have watched this animal suffer for four years and they talk about the situation as if it were an unpredictable emergency. They use all the buzz words they just learned in school and are being allowed to play with the lives of animals that require experience of people three times their age. I feel sorry for ALL of the animals in their care but hopefully by the grace of God the animals will die peacefully and not be subjected to the torture caused by the incompetence and arrogance of these childish "zoo keepers." This is just downright disgusting and inexcusable!!
Ummm.... do you really believe that these decisions come down to the zookeepers? The animals health is completely in the hands of veterinarians with some of the best experience in the country. The zookeepers do not make these decisions and all of the animals health needs are overseen by the veterinarians. And overseen very closely I might add. Although, you seem more than capable to tell the vets how to do their jobs!! 😂 😂
Orangutans and apes in general could be more prone to low thyroid/overweight/heart issues in captivity. The Indiannapolis zoo also have a baby orangutan Max who was diagnosed with low thyroid.
@@absoleet That is interesting. I think these people then have to make a decision as to whether the quality of life of these animals is adequate to justify keeping them alive. The animal in this video looks pathetic and appears to be suffering. It is not fair to keep any animal in that condition.

ORANGUTANS STAY WITH THEIR MOTHERS UNTIL ALMOST EIGHT YEARS. THIS LITTLE GUY SHOULD STILL BE WITH HIS MOM. MOM SHOULD NOT BE HAVING ANOTHER BABY!!!
YOU SHOULD GO THERE AND TELL THEM INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING TO STRANGERS
They should teach them how to put a condom on a banana. They'd chock on the bananas, dead orangutan problem solved.
It's so obvious that the entire veterinarian team failed him terribly!! This makes me so incredibly angry and sad. RIH Little Tripa. May your journey across the Rainbow Bridge have been a smooth one. I would have held you tight every chance I would have had.
They did everything they could for it. How dare you accuse them of failing. We’re you there? No!! So don’t make accusations without proof
@@keithmuehsam8990 THEY MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT!! HOW DARE YOU!!!! You need to educate yourself!! Do you have a clue what his condition was????!!!! Because I do and early intervention was key to his survival. Instead they brushed it off as him being clingy to his Mom. Not even close.
I agree. I'll also never understand why they bred his mum so early in his life, when they knew this poor little fella wasn't where he should have been.
The way the cookie 🍪 crumbles….
I can definitely empathize with Tripa - I had hypothyroidism since childhood. Given that orangutans have 97% of our human DNA, I shouldn't be surprised that hypothyroidism is something they can suffer.
It was too soon to let his Mom get pregnant. He needed his Mom!!
Another expert primatologist straight from Google U
He belongs in a home with loving people. Thats his problem. Just put orangutans where they belong with people.
Excellent comment
I want to hold him.
You gotta $$$ to play.
You’ll have to dig his dead body up first
Trapper is Die...why they not Tell the poor Baby..he was lifelong in a prisom
Instead of these animals becoming extinct as you clearly would prefer
Ultimately, It is best that the animal is now gone and out of reach of the cruel, negligent and uncaring "zoo keepers" and "vets" that were just exploiting it for money and attention. The poor animal was obviously being denied medical care just so that these videos could be made and so that more donations could be received. Truly disgusting and disgraceful!!
And because you chose to sit back and not donate or volunteer, he died
"trips" wouldn't have lasted long in the wild due to weak genes and so forth. he actually a terrible candidate for the progress of the orangutan species. there's gonna be more problems later down the line.
I agree in the wild he would have probably died even sooner. It seems that as well as being physically under developed he was also a bit slow in mental development
You watched a video and now you know all
I cannot understand how these "zoo keepers" can perform in front of a camera and talk innocently about a problem they caused.
Are you saying the zoo keepers caused his thyroid problem?
What are you doing to help?
Ummm.... do you really believe that these decisions come down to the zookeepers?
One saved…but how many died today for our luxeries and greed?
And what have you done today to make a difference aside from your pathetic useless comments?
Wasn’t saved.
Ultimately, It is best that the animal is now gone and out of reach of the cruel, negligent and uncaring "zoo keepers" and "vets" that were just exploiting it for money and attention. The poor animal was obviously being denied medical care just so that these videos could be made and so that more donations could be received. Truly disgusting and disgraceful, just like YOUR continued support of poachers and animal abusers.
First like
More humans are dying , so leave these stupid apes and spend your life to save humans. It's shame to see humans rushing to save ugly stupid apes, which are extremely ferocious and dangerous for humans.
No, these animals aren't ferocious. No one benefits from a species going extinct. Your fake concern for others doesn't make your illogical hatred for these animals seem justified. You are just ignorant and hateful
My sentiments exactly. It irritates me to see this disproportionate moral compass aka stupidity. ❤
In all fairness, the only stupid species here are humans. Our greed hurts others, even our own kind lol. You seem to be close minded
Such nasty, vile creatures.
Yes, you truly are
Right?
+Nature Bites
Smh🙄
IN THE WILD, TRIPPER WOULD STILL BE WITH HIS MOTHER AND WOULD NOT HAVE A BABY SIBLING. HE WOULD BE WITH HIS MOM UNTIL 7 OR 8. WHAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING IS NOT NATURAL AND i WOULD SAY IMMORAL. TRIPPER IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD!!
Smh🙄. Stop screaming
I made this channel to support my poor family. Please, my brothers and sisters, do not disappoint me 🙏
Gross :(
Shouldn’t tripper be awake for the ekg?
