@marianne mccrank HIS version of the film was different from the final product, Butch's version had the lines match up with the mouths like a dub of an anime, and no dumb pop culture jokes, that version was so far into production to the point that some of the actors had recorded their lines. But then Harvey Weinstein made HIS own crappy version which became the American version of Doogal. So long story short, Butch wanted to make Doogal GOOD.
Apart from the candy addiction thing mentioned, the only things I remember about this movie was the snail yelling “Charge!” really slowly and then “Run Away!” really slowly and that it got its own ICEE flavor that was available at that cookie place you see at the mall(I don’t know why I can’t remember the name. I loved that place as a kid and still do).
They also got rid of Doogal’s Voice from the trailer, & replaced it with a kid actor for the whole movie. The actor from the trailer has these voice clips. Doogle: The fearless warrior couldn’t make it today, so I came instead. Doogle: No he can’t. Fine, I broke the fall with my face. OH, AYE!
The reason why Dougal/Doogal/Pollux has no visible legs is because in stop motion he would have been easier to animate with very long hair which would make it no need for legs
Samuel Quan Funny how the first bad Don Bluth movie is the first bad Don Bluth he’s reviewing. He’s reviewed 3 of his movies, but neither got the Seal of Garbage.
You should review Dougal and the Blue Cat in the future. It's the 1972 film of The Magic Roundabout TV series. It even has my idol, Fenella Fielding, as the voice of the Blue Queen, the only time original UK narrator Eric Thompson called in another person to voice a character. (He voiced all the characters in the TV series)
The UK version is better than the American version it's not a perfect film but like mat said you'll have a better time with it than a movie that wasted no talent at all!

When I was little I had bunch of VHS tapes with cartoons recorded from TV. The Magic Roundabout with Polish dub was one of them. II still have some memories of it, but when years I saw posters and other stuff promoting 2005 movie, I did not recognised it was adaptation of this old show until some time later.
I agree with you completely. I watched this movie when I was about 13 and that was a time when I practically liked anything that I saw and I hated this. Good review, Mat! Also, the next review is Rock-A-Doodle. Good luck, Mat.
As a child I really enjoyed dougal and it was one of my earliest introductions to the over used The bad guy vs the good guy. Almost like a gandalf vs sauron or whatever
If you guys wanna see an Americanized dub of a foreign property that’s actually done WELL, I’d recommend the Ghost Stories dub. Sure, it’s raunchy and a bit repetitive, but at least the voice actors actually acted like they CARED about the project! P.S. It’s pretty unbelievable that you consider Rock a Doodle worse than A Troll in Central Park. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. 🤷♀️
I always thought that "Doogal" was just underated, but I didn't think it was one of the worst animated films ever made. Also when I first saw the trailer for this film in the DVD opening of "The Reef", Doogal sounded like he was voiced by a young man. When I took a glance at the actual movie, Doogal's voice sounded like a child. I feel so robbed.
So now comes the next question: how would you rate the European adaptation? For me it would be the following: Story: 7/10 Animation: 5/10 Characters: 6/10 Final Verdict: 6.5/10
This film is like a feature-length gag dub, but written by film executives and not funny in the slightest. Now the original film isn't a classic, but at least it had some character development during the course of the events. I think that this originally had a short playing before it, which was funnier than the film itself, plus a small bit where Doogal talks to the narrator before the film starts, but those were probably before the home video release.
So THAT'S why I thought the voices sounded different Its because it isnt the original move Trust me the original movie isnt oversaturated with pop culture references On top of that my favourite character in the original is Dylan just because his voice along with his quotes and personality go so well together
Same here! As I thought this movie was weird (maybe because of doogals character animation) but if I'd choose between versions I'm sticking to the UK one!
Biggest mistake of my childhood was asking my mom to take me to see this over the Curious George movie that came out around the same time. Speaking of which, can you please review that next?

I used to watch the original Magic Roundabout on Pinwheel back in the 80s. I love Doogle, so when this movie came out I was excited. And then I saw it. I was so angry. I'm still angry. 😡

I'm just listening to audio, and suddenly i'm like "Hey! That's ELO!"
No one:
Random skeleton in the movie: *pirates of the Caribbean*
I’m so glad that I grew up with the light years better UK version
When I was little I had bunch of VHS tapes with cartoons recorded from TV. The Magic Roundabout with Polish dub was one of them. II still have some memories of it, but when years I saw posters and other stuff promoting 2005 movie, I did not recognised it was adaptation of this old show until some time later.
Okay, the fire and ice moustache fight sounds awesome
Any particular reason they made Doogal a kid in the US version? That voice difference is really freaking me out! XD
zaptrollwen hoodwinked isn’t a trilogy it only had two movies.
The UK version was good me being British Robbie Williams I used to like as dougal
I agree with you completely. I watched this movie when I was about 13 and that was a time when I practically liked anything that I saw and I hated this. Good review, Mat!
Also, the next review is Rock-A-Doodle. Good luck, Mat.
Alex Klepp I wonder if rock a doodle will get the animat seal of garbage like this piece of crap did.
George Robertson He did say its his least favorite Don Bluth movie.
Doogal or Doonotgal that is the question.
As a child I really enjoyed dougal and it was one of my earliest introductions to the over used The bad guy vs the good guy. Almost like a gandalf vs sauron or whatever
I remember accidentally going into the theater room that was playing this.
For me it would be the following:
Story: 7/10
Animation: 5/10
Characters: 6/10
Final Verdict: 6.5/10
This film is like a feature-length gag dub, but written by film executives and not funny in the slightest.
Now the original film isn't a classic, but at least it had some character development during the course of the events.
I think that this originally had a short playing before it, which was funnier than the film itself, plus a small bit where Doogal talks to the narrator before the film starts, but those were probably before the home video release.
16:20 Does this mean a Troll in Central Park is your second least favorite?
BRRGames at last that one had okay animation
Jimmy Fallon deserves better!!
Don't worry, he got better in Whip It
I agree! 🐰🐰🐰
So THAT'S why I thought the voices sounded different
Its because it isnt the original move
Trust me the original movie isnt oversaturated with pop culture references
On top of that my favourite character in the original is Dylan just because his voice along with his quotes and personality go so well together
16:40 this American dub in a nutshell.
I enjoy this movie for 2 different reasons
1) nostalgia
2) in a so bad it’s good way
11:31 lion king music
Oh my god this movie *does* exist,
I thought it was just a fever dream
Same here! As I thought this movie was weird (maybe because of doogals character animation) but if I'd choose between versions I'm sticking to the UK one!
As a kid, I love Doogal. Now I look back and I’m like “what was I thinking?”
Same
3:04 So this is basically the Big Bang Theory.
Crouton Cing that’s nothing try breadwinners
This is the best review from you.
Biggest mistake of my childhood was asking my mom to take me to see this over the Curious George movie that came out around the same time. Speaking of which, can you please review that next?
DJ Androm3da even curious George is better than this dog crap! (No pun intended.)
@@jackiegonzalez6814 imo the Curious George movie is actually pretty good (for little kids at least). I love the Jack Johnson soundtrack!
DJ Androm3da I actually love the curious George movie. It was my two daughters childhood and they loved it so much that when pbs kids aired the curious George tv show based on the movie of the same name, they watched every episode of the show and loved it.
DJ Androm3da I think if animat reviews curious George (2006) these would be the scores
Story: 7/10
Animation: 8/10
Characters: 7/10
Overall
7/10
I love that movie that is based on a book and plus curious george the movie is great and plus I love that tv show it's one of my favorite little kids shows it's a great show
This movie was buried deep down in my memory and nearly forgotten that it ever existed
HOLY SHIT, for the last 16 years I thought this movie was a fever dream. I really wish it was.
HOLY SHIET i thought that movie was just a dream in my child mind
At least they kept the Magic Roundabout theme from the original movie!
I used to watch the original Magic Roundabout on Pinwheel back in the 80s. I love Doogle, so when this movie came out I was excited. And then I saw it. I was so angry. I'm still angry. 😡
Pinwheel!!!!!
Tracy Palma watch the original
@@cindydillard1825 it's not available in the US.
@@LUVBOTZ
I know but I know someone who uploaded it bit by bit
I'm really glad I didn't see this in theaters, but the weird thing is when I saw the original trailer Doogal sounds like a grown man,
and that this has different versions.
8:01 What makes you think that Emintrude is a Miss Piggy style diva?
When the movie was starting i went to the restroom then after it I saw curious George with my dad instead of doogal
Well thanks for digging this out of the depths of my repressed memory.

My Hero Academia Two Heroes
I loved this movie as a kid
And almost had forgotten about it
I honestly thought this was a fever dream wtf
"Before you know it, you've eaten all the three musketeers and they're families"? What the f**k does that mean? What's the joke?
I have no clue, at least in the original it made more sense and is a callback to an earlier scene
Dalek44 there’s a candy called 3 musketeers I think that’s the joke.
In the original he makes a subtle drug joke. It was actually pretty funny.
Next Year: AniMat’s Classic Reviews: Rock a Doodle. Nostalgia Critic would rolling his eyes when he sees that another reviewer would take on the chicken challenge.
the ROBOT CHICKEN challenge
Grant Awa You mean this month cause we’re get 2 Classic Reviews a month.
Chill Player 123 we have Ralph Bakshi, Spider-Man Animation Movie, and the top 5 best and worst films of 2018 to do.
Grant Awa Doesn’t mean he can’t release the review this month. Also I don’t think we’re seeing Top 5 Best & Worst Animated Films this year. Likely the first week of January cause this month is packed.
*cries in nostalgia*
Fun fact, I'm not from an English speaking country and the annoying popcultural references aren't in the dub. Conversations feel rather organic in fact. From what you've shown I can't believe how terrible the American dub is XD
