Actually he asked if they would tour with a full orchestra. Shagrath said no. And they didn't. But he did say they planned a 1 off show with a full orchestra. That did happen. Twice.
for 5 yrs his picture was on my Refrig at home. My sons had taken it at a show at the Rave Eagles Club in Milwaukee. I was downtown Chicago. I walked by a group of long haired guys with a bald guy. I went to a store and saw them again .Something about the way he laughed and I thought no way. I looked again and said hello. He answered Hello. I said I am sorry but are you from Dimmu Borgir ? That I said the name correctly floored him. Do I call you Shagrath or your real name Stian ? I told him I had been stuck listening to him so much he couldn't fool me. We talked music and my taste of Metallica Led Zeppelin and classical music. I mean he was a perfect gentlemen gave me a couple of autographs and some guitar picks for my sons( they have several already) and a pic with me. The guy made my month. Really just how many 50 yr old women have a pic with a black/death metal singer and them in their living room!
Wow! I would never have expected the vocalist to be so chill. I kind of expected him to be high strung. I'm new to the band's music, I love what I've heard thus far, and I enjoy when band members are safe. So many in the different genres of metal you'd never want to be alone with, especially as a woman - like GG Allin or The Mentors. I am really enjoying Dimmu.
One of the many reasons I love Dimmu Borgir is because every one of their albums is unique. I'll never be able to understand those "fans" that are hellbent on the belief that every album they create for almost two decades should be just like For all tid or Stormblast. How about some respect for their creative abilities? Fact is,they are miles ahead of EDT with Abrahadabra, and in many ways. If you don't like the direction Dimmu has taken, you're listening to the wrong band.
In a 2007 interview with the German 'Moderner Glaube' Magazine Shagrath said 'I don't believe Christianity is responsible for all evil in the world.I mean look at us,we claim to be 'Satanic' especially with our imagery ,yet we do believe Christ was a real person and sometimes I wish I could just for once write a song about him.I'm not saying I am a Christian but sometimes the devil-worshiping lyrics of our songs make me wanna pause and say 'Hey,what if I'm wrong? What if there is a Hell'
Seriously. Stop calling people with negative opinions about something for ''trolls''. Trolling is not about blatantly talking shit about something or saying something sucks. That's just people having an opinion about whatever.
@pickupthePWN yes, they are untrue blackmetal. because theyre symphonic black metal. there's a difference. it's like saying that slipknot is untrue blackmetal, it's obvious. but they're still amazing
Yeah, well said and sometimes it just doesn't ever open. For exp. Dimmu is my first favorite band yet even they have songs and albums I don't like as much as some other albums of their. Fellow who always immedietly likes every song and album a band makes, that's just fake. To pretend because otherwise you're not a true fan if there's something you don't like about the band.
I love this guy man. Some people give him shit for having an upside star as a symbol in his band. You know, I used to be scared of that, but recently, after opening my mind quite a bit more, I say that shit doesn't scare no more. I even believe in god, but not religiously. I believe in Him and I shouldn't have to do shit to prove that. It's people putting the R word on him that kill others.
@raychamp I'm not sure what this whole conversation is about. But I completely disagree with you when you say you'e not a true fan if you criticise their work. If you're an actual fan you care about their work and say your opinion whether it's good or bad.
@raychamp Critizing is always helping more then mindlessly following. You may not like it at the moment you hear it, but at the end you will appreciate it alot more then the fake 'fan' back in that day.
Haha, I also became a fan of this band when Abrahadabra came out! I had listened to Dimmu from 2008 and it opened to me very slowly step by step. And when Abrahadabra came this band confirmed it's place in my soul
I was scared of these marks and norwegian bad boys and black metal as well, I always felt uncomfortable if somebody talked about satanism and all that. It was when I was 13 - 14. And I didn't even believe in anything religious. Nowadays I believe in something. Maybe it's close to paganism. But I would call it maybe more philosophy than religion, just like buddhism. But I experienced that 'openinng' too at the age of 15. I wasn't scared of those things anymore. It was ridiculous to fear!
I also have to disagree with the interviewer that the fans are just afraid of change. If a fan likes the newer music more than the old or vice versa it's likely because they simply prefer that sound, I know that's the way it is with me.
"You are not a true fan if you criticize" So basically a true fan cannot have his own opinion of a band, and can only be a drone who mindlessly devotes himself to a band no matter what the band does? Nice.
i'm not afaid ov change, i can just see when change sounds like shit, all the dimmu albums ARE different but abrawhatever is too far away from what drew to dimmu to begin with. and shagrath SHOULD give a shit the majority ov "trolls" are older fans that have a personal relationship with the music. after all he wouldn't be where he's at without us
It's funny. Whenever a metal band does ''something different'' or ''changes direction'' it's always to a more radio friendly place. That's what they all do. Slowly becoming pop bands.
i know right,I hate people label every bands...I think 'real' musicians need to make different kinds of music otherwise, they'll become a robot which makes music
Abracadabra for me is a total failure. This music is boring, is not engaged in any direction. There is a lack of power, there is no darkness. I'm disappointed. Shagrath can create a nice duet with the Britney Spears- if looking for inspiration....
@raychamp That's ridiculous. So just because you don't blindly like anything they put out you aren't a fan? All I know is they haven't been a real good band since 1998 or 1999 at least as far as I'm concerned. And really they haven't been great since 1996, and as far as Abrahadabra is concerned it just sounds very rushed to me and mediocre.
dude is so REAL… no pretense or ego, just a great showman
That's the difference between the musicians and the fans
One of the greatest front man in METAL!!!
HE IS JUST SHEER PERFECTION !!!!! I LOOOOVE THIS MAN 😘🌹💋
Shagrath actually seems like a very kind, and mild mannered guy.
Shag is badass.
He is..All mountains are..-cauldrons stewing 2.._.
Judge not shall be judged first
Interviewer: are you guys going to play with an actual orchestra?
Shagrath: I don't know, that's just way too many people.
6 years later.......
What happened 6 y later?
Actually he asked if they would tour with a full orchestra. Shagrath said no. And they didn't. But he did say they planned a 1 off show with a full orchestra. That did happen. Twice.
@@S2flazinhaThey released the DVD Forces of the Northern Night, which is the full one time performance with an orchestra.

Sweet guy...Just wanna hug him right now!
One of the coolest things about Dimmu, is the honesty behind what they do.Shagrath is awesome! Hail Dimmu! \M/
i know stian personally:) he's a very shy and modest guy:) i like that guy:)))
Spoken like an artist. Always go forward, always something new.
The opinions of the musicians that I admire are extremely important and influential to me.
MY GOD HE IS AMAZING!!!!!!
Quanto è figo!!!!!
F*king handsome!!!

I like that he is real and doesn't pretend to play black metal
Awesome Electrifying Stage Presence

Robert Trebor
Seriously. Stop calling people with negative opinions about something for ''trolls''. Trolling is not about blatantly talking shit about something or saying something sucks. That's just people having an opinion about whatever.
Amazing Contrast

ILL LOOOOVE SHAGRATH FOREVER 💔😈💋 HAIL DIMMU BORGIR !!!!
@pickupthePWN yes, they are untrue blackmetal. because theyre symphonic black metal. there's a difference. it's like saying that slipknot is untrue blackmetal, it's obvious. but they're still amazing

@raychamp If you don't criticize work you are not a fan of music. Its about voicing opinion.
🖤🖤🖤
@raychamp Critizing is always helping more then mindlessly following. You may not like it at the moment you hear it, but at the end you will appreciate it alot more then the fake 'fan' back in that day.
I actually enjoy Abrahadabra and Dimmu will always be unique.

@PaganWinter666 This is Nesha! I love you!
You are the most amazing musician!
True dat!
@cejason i agree.
"You are not a true fan if you criticize"
So basically a true fan cannot have his own opinion of a band, and can only be a drone who mindlessly devotes himself to a band no matter what the band does?
Nice.
Haha! Yeah! I could pin point loads of stuff I dislike about my favorite bands, but who cares.
I think he had a bit of a language problem there. What he probably meant is “You’re not a true fan if you focus only on the negative” which I agree on
Watain interviews are more ridiculous LOL , shagrath is quite a normal dude not trying hard to look evil
MY BABY SHAGRATH , I LOVE YOU😈❤💋
@raychamp A true fan questions the bands work, like a true patriot questions their country.
he is not a king he is agod ov black metal
marduk belphegor I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT MARDUK , CHEERS FROM SHERIDAN , WYOMING , USA 😈💔💋

Abrahadabra actually made me into a Dimmu Fan and there are more like me! they win some and they loose some fans....
Same here. That album is unbelievable. It stayed in CD deck for three years straight.
Listened to it today for the first time.... Such an amazing album
Who is venom?..
Danny Hood Band from England

i know right,I hate people label every bands...I think 'real' musicians need to make different kinds of music otherwise, they'll become a robot which makes music
@emperor075 well here is your answer: 7:05 until 7:13 HE DOESN"T CAREEEEEEEE
I am a "true" fan of people but I can criticize their work...
Critiks excellent serpent princes
He's right...Dimmu is NOT Black Metal. But so what? Fuck that genre shit.
It's really not, emperor for instance is amazing just as good as dimmu borgir
I would say they are symphonic black metal. Or extreme metal
I don't think Stormblast is anywhere near as good as For all Tid.
In soviet russia the rock , rocks you
thumbs up for untrue blackmetal
Deathspell Omega is TRUE black metal!
Venom is thrash though.
Abracadabra for me is a total failure.
This music is boring, is not engaged in any direction.
There is a lack of power, there is no darkness.
I'm disappointed.
