As a turk i am very ashamed of those turks which comment with insults that this is stolen from turks. Only because that this is rotated an a pole doesn't mean that this is stolen. The turks use internet, cars, phones, televisions... and nothing is invented by turks! I was several times in mexico, and i love the food there, to be honest it is more delicious and fresh than turkish food.
This is youtube so don't be ashamed. It always devolves into some kind of racial, cultural, my country is better, my way is better, trolling kind of bullshit. Anyway, I'm off to find someone posting a pasta recipe with an Italian name (hopefully) so I can remind them of the fact that the Chinese invented it. They may counter with garum or some such thing but I'm prepared because according to the experts the Chinese invented pretty much everything. See how easy it is?
the "taco al pastor" comes from Iran, heritage of Arabian migrants people in Puebla, Mexico in the 30´s, not from Jalisco. Search "la historia del taco árabe"
Yeah yeah yeah all you people arguing about what type of food Pastor is. It's fine to analyze the history. It's Lebanese, it's Turkish no it's Greek! It's this, it's that. Blah Blah. Do you not realize pigs are not native to America and they were not brought here until the Europeans came? Do you not realize MOST food is fusion food? Before the word fusion was ever thrown into it? Peppers, Potatoes and Tomatoes all came from the Americas. The Turks use plenty of tomatoes and peppers do you tell the Turks they are cooking American food? The Italians went a LONG time without tomatoes in their food. The Irish, Germans, etc. went for quite some time without potatoes. The trading allowed them to have the new foods and they eventually became part of their culture.
youre talking about ingredients yes they were incorporated into their culture. but these people arguing are talking about recipes and the food itself as a collection of ingredients not just one
I am making my own tacos al pastor at home as I watch this. The pork is marinading for the next couple hours, and then it's cookin' time. My favorite. Best I ever tasted in my life was about four years ago in Mexico City at the most average looking little restaurant near my hotel. Not fancy, but OMG... I went there about five times in the two days I stayed there.
Everyone here arguing about Alpastor not being Mexican, well tomatoes aren't from Italy their from Mexico but that doesn't mean that Pizza or anything containing a food variety from Mexico is Mexican.... just shut up Alpastor is Mexican and that's that!
Fernando Estrada: 40 years ago in Mexico there was no such thing as a rotating skewer with a lump of meat on it. That actually looks very appetizing when the meat is being shaved of the skewer. But, before they were called Cabrito al Pastor and l never had one. Because it was a baby goat skinned and gutted, lmpaled on a skewer displayed by the Mexican restaurant windows. I remember that very well because when ever l would see it, it would take my appetite away. Because, too me they looked like gutted babies. But, what they're doing now they have taken from the Turks and the Greeks.
Jose seems like a great guy and the shop is clean and neat. Pork grilled this way is a delicacy, those who haven't tried it missing a lot. In Greece, we call this "gyro" and eating it with onions, tomato, french fries, and tzatziki sauce or mustard rolled into a pitta bread
Tacos el Pastor is the Lebanese-Middle Eastern influence on Mexican food. This is basically a Kebab in a Tortilla wrap. There a many Mexicans of Lebanese descent. Salma Hayek is Mexican/Lebanese. Lebanese food is similar to Turkish food.
simmick1 you are wrong in all what you just said when you said that is not mexican, all of that is mexican, because Mexican is no prehispanic its the mixture of all those cultures, we are not spanish or indigena, we are a mixutre, and ACTUALLY, the sauce on what they marinate the meat for tacos al pastor is not the same as turkish... so you are saying is just the same because the way it looks(not the same meat, not the same ingredients).....
Everglow You are deluded, I am right in saying that Pork- in fact all meats were brought to Mexico by the Spanish, Cilantro is certainly not Mexican, and even dairy was brought to Mexico by the Spanish. The Spanish gave Mexico the Spanish language, which was not spoken in Mexico until the Spaniards settled there. I never said the marinade for al pastor was the same as in Turkey!
simmick1 you don't understand or you are clearly stuborn.... México wasn't México before... you know what I mean dont play fool, yo clearly said "they are basically making kebabs out of pork instead of lamb", so don''t play fool, its not the same... the only thing that is the same is the way the meat is cook, you clearly have something against México in some way, or just triying to underestimate us, all Latin American contries are a mixture of cultures. Chicagoan here. One of the best al pastors in the city. They actually use a real spit instead of calling any marinated pork "al pastor" . Place is definitely small, but mighty.

fuckin love that shit. no lettuce no cheese or any of that shit just straight carne, onion, cilantro and a warm corn tortilla.
+CupcakesDeluxe Lettuce, tomato, & cheese are Tex-Mex, straight up Mexican is less ingredients, but still delicious!

Actually it is similar to Arabic shawarma. Lebanese took it to Mexico. In Greece this is called gyro and gyro is pork
