    So true Tyler, there's light at the end of the tunnel, but often then it's back into the tunnel again... and as you say sometimes all you can do it just hang in there, hoping the light is on its way. You certainly aren't alone, I have friends struggling as you are, and I see how hard it can be. In the first world we have had it so good, for so long, it's easy to assume that happiness is our birthright. But of course history shows how brutal life can be... whether it's poverty, war or the neurotransmitters in our brain beating ourselves up! I'm glad you can still see what you need to do... just hanging in there. Remembering it will get better, even though that seems impossible. Focusing on the really important things like your family. And talking about it, not keeping it all inside. You are not alone!

    Guys when I release videos talking about mental health, I get an enormous amount of messages, emails, and other communications regarding issues that are best discussed with a licensed therapist. As much as love this community and desire to help, I'm just a dude, struggling like a lot of us do, and have a hard enough time handling my own issues. I wish that I could help every person who sends a message individually, but it does get overwhelming and in the past has been pretty gnarly for my own mental well being to try and play therapist to hundreds of awesome folks when I have literally no idea what I'm doing in that area. If you need help, I encourage you to seek counseling from an awesome therapist, and see a psychiatrist if you think meds might help you function better. (Not just a doctor/ family practitioner, but a legit psychiatrist) It might take a few tries to get a therapist/psychiatrist who you jive with, but I promise, when you find the right therapist it makes a world of difference and can save your life. Also, insurance lately has been way better at helping with psychiatry and therapy. My current insurance covers almost the whole bill, and both psychiatry, meds, and therapy end up costing about $20-$30 a month and it has been 100% worth every penny. I still have a long way to go, but I have more hope now than I've had in a long time. Much love guys! Stay strong and know that you are not alone!

      I've been through the same type of thing and I have come to believe that if your body doesn't have every vitamin and minerals it needs it will function the best it can for a long time until it starts screaming at you that something is wrong. Once you have your nutrition covered then and only then is it mental. Then you can focus on a positive attitude. You have a great attitude so I'm thinking you're missing some kind of vitamin I'm mineral.

      Actually Tyler this could be an opportunity, if motorcycle sponsors drop you get new ones from mental health groups, maybe even insurance or pharmaceutical companies. Spreading the gospel about how motorcycle riding in itself can improve ones mental health has to be a good thing for some other sponsor group, bringing more people to the world of ADV riding through this message is great. Progressive could do a commercial about the stress relieved on 2 wheels to help sell their mo insurance.

    I notice you mentioned the video is not for people who are normal. A very close family member has gone through very difficult mental health issues for much of her life, and her therapist mentioned to her (and she shared with me) that having a chemical imbalance in the brain is no different than someone being born with type 1 diabetes, or any other illness. There's nothing abnormal than that. You are a great person who deserves to be here and has a family who loves you.

    • @daftnord4957
      @daftnord4957 4 года назад +1

      Chemical imbalance is caused by modern lifestyles. We are living too easily, no need to worry about dangers of nature, too disconnected. That's not to say people with depression and other mental health issues need to start living in a hunter gatherer tribe, but steps toward nature helps

    • @matijazg5455
      @matijazg5455 4 года назад +2

      @@daftnord4957 it is not that simple. research has shown that depression is universal human experience, in the sense that it is crosscultural and classless. spending time in nature certainly can help, but it is much more complex issue than attributing it to modern lifestyles.

    • @archeo289
      @archeo289 4 года назад

      daft nord interesting concept. If you are one who enjoys reading, give the book “Sapiens” a read. It talks about culture itself as a divergence from biological instinct that can be a cause of anxiety and depression. Not one culture over another, just its existence that stresses chemical responses in the brain. As all members of human society have culture, I believe that the resulting depression and thoughts of suicide are in fact normal responses. Not to say they are desirable effects or should be left untreated, but those suffering are “normal people.”

      Sunlight is good for depression, and endurance exercise gives you time to open the mind and reflect in ways that you can't bring your day today life

    My mentor, riding coach, mechanic, best friend, but his best title to me was dad, committed suicide 10 yr 9 months ago. He is one of the 22, Vietnam veteran and one hell of a good dude. He taught me how to ride, and we raced enduro, hare scramble and motocross together. We rode miles and miles of west Texas trails together. We were actually in a enduro race together, about 59 miles in, when the moment hit that we both realized that I was finally a faster rider. He pulled over, with pride in his eyes and told me to go ahead, knowing we were behind the race schedule. That is a moment I’ll never forget, and believe me there are plenty of people that have a strange but similar memory with you. There isn’t a day that goes by that he isn’t in my thoughts. By watching your video, I can tell you know there are people that care for you, just hold on to that in the dark times.
    This is a quote that a military buddy once told me when I was in a dark place. “Suicide doesn’t end your pain, it only passes it to your loved ones.” I wear this thought just under my skin everyday.
    Personally, I’d love to ride with you! Me and the wife are currently full-timing in a toy hauler and will be in Heber City till the end of October with no destination next. I’ll bring the Tequila!

    Tyler, I just watched your vid.
    It's very interesting to hear how your mind thinks suicide is the answer but your heart tells you life is precious.
    I really hope you can get a handle on this .
    What helps me is knowing that it's not all about me, it's about those around me and my job is to help them on their path through this life.

    I tell everyone willing to listen that I’m on anti-depressant/anti-anxiety meds......not for sympathy, but because I want others that might be too embarrassed to admit they are having issues to understand it’s more prevalent than they might know. If the body chemistry is off, you can’t fight it. It’s like trying to talk yourself out of being blotto-drunk. Doesn’t matter what you say to yourself....you’ll still be wasted. There's interesting studies being done on Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) and their ability to reset the brain chemistry for extended periods of time. I've considered "taking a trip", even though I don't support illicit drug use. I'm not a cop or soldier either but the PTSD aspect is real for me. I've never been suicidal but the it's agony sometimes. Hang in there!!

    I think one of my favorite quotes is from Henry David Thoreau who said, "the masses of men live lives of quiet desperation". your not crazy, your human. We all feel the despair at some point in our lives, some of us more than others. In so far as booking a trip with the 'Crazy guy", I think I would rather travel with him than the mindless automaton looking to make a buck! Brave post! Good luck. There are people out there whom you've never met that care about you and wish you the best. One day at a time!!!

Hang in there brother, you are loved and valued by more people than you will ever know. Love and prayers for you from Phil & Little Red Rooster in Australia.

    You said it Tyler, sometimes it’s just “Hang On” the wheel of life keeps turning, have faith in that. Better times will come yes and we will enjoy them, but we know the wheel will turn back to darker times, and so we try to learn how to endure them
    Best wishes

    Thank you for doing this video! I think one thing that can help PTSD is leaving behind the anger towards who or what caused the trauma.Not replaying it over and over in your head. In other words forgiveness. I'm not saying meds and counselling are not important. Please take this as a fan of yours honestly trying to help.

    "Most important message is show love and be grateful"... - I agree! We all need to try to spread more love. Some brains operate like a brand new motorcycle; and others need a little TLC, elbow grease, tuning, and hours in the garage just to keep them running! Let your brain be like a well loved, trusty KLR or DR. It may of been dropped and beaten, but it still gets you out there! You are tried and true, and good. Awesome video Tyler! Thanks for being so brave.

As you said, you're not alone, I'm sure you will overcome this with the kind and loving help of your family and friends. My wife has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and I know how difficult it is for us to understand all the pain and sadness our beloved ones are going through, but it is possible to overcome those feelings. The love for your family is a great anchor to start from. Just stay on the ride!!

    I do have doubts, fears and concerns about our future, especially as a father myself.

    And surf that wave for the good and the bad that it will bring.
