When I was 14, the transition between wood and aluminum was taking place. For those of us who wanted a good wood sound with durability, our coaches got us a couple of bamboo bats. We used them for three practices and gave up on them because they stung our hands so much. I guess they haven't changed much in 50 years.
I used a bamboo composite bat for a season 20 some years ago. It was actually pretty good and don't recall any sting likely thanks to the composite. Didn't have a ton of options for wood back then, mainly ash. Maple was just getting around but too expensive. We had a couple Brett composite bats that were tanks the majority of the team used.
Dude your videos are amazing! I'm 39yds old and haven't played in 20years but I just get hooked on watching your videos. Love baseball and the mind games it has. you bring so much knowledge to the people on how you explain and video things. Keep it up!
Bros out here pulling insurance, likely paying out the deductible for damage, all for an affordable bat video for the boys. You're a champ, I appreciate videos like this. Keep up the great work.
i know the exact same pain you felt. I got myself the same $50 bamboo bat and the recoil is no joke. Finding the sweet spot on that bat is like finding a needle in a hay stack and feels like finding a hay in a needle stack.
I had to buy that bamboo years ago when I discovered a crack in my bat during BP at one of my men's league games and it's all the closest sporting goods store had in a 33" length. I distinctly remember how it stung, even on barrels. I thought maybe I didn't get it as square as I thought, but now this video (14 years later) has proved I wasn't crazy.
Yeah I recall watching a video on this bat a few years ago and their impression was similar, but I didn't pay close enough attention to how they said it could ring you up. I've had a much better experience with the maple composite from Brett Bros.
I've used this bat for years and can confirm, it rings you up badly. I spent another $50 to get a Brett Bros and while the sweet spot isn't amazing on that either, you get similar durability, more juice, and your hands won't die on mis-hits. Definitely preferred the Brett Bros over this. I'm really curious how the 243 model Pinnacle Sports has performs as that turn model seems to fare far better with bamboo bats.
Never miss a video!! Got to get the boy an Amazon to try. Although for woodbat tourneys which they play all summer he has a $60 Rawlings maple when every other kid on his team are swinging Baum bats!
Over the years, you have had several guest batters. Love the special guest. What are the chances of ever seeing "Cam's" skills at the plate? He runs the pitching machine like a boss, but how does he swing the "Boom Stick"? Rock on BBB's 🤘😎
Many people over the years have tried to make bamboo bats work because on paper, they're the ultimate wood-like material. It's super hard, easy to make, and more durable than any natural material for its weight. The issue is that on materials like bamboo, hardness comes with stiffness, which will help the durability but it also means that the shock on the hands is insane. Flexibility hurts performance when you're not hitting it in the screws but it helps distribute the vibrations so it feels better
I think ash is fairly scarce now, which is why you don't see it as much anymore. IMO ash performs as well (or better than) maple. It's lighter, has more handle flex, and doesn't shatter/break as easily.
I’ve got my first wood bat tournament this weekend up in 16u and I’m pretty nervous because I’m 14 but I’m using a $50 Louisville Slugger and I’ve got high hopes after this video. Thank you, Will.
My guy, I need to see 2 bats. First, the “Woods”. Then the Tank 2-piece bbcor. Love the channel bro. I’m 45 and buy bats to swing in the house while I rewatch their episodes. True story…..
I have one of these that I bought as a fungo replacement at the last minute. Can’t speak to it ringing me up, but I’m still using it as my fungo as it is easy to hit fly balls and is as durable as anything out there.
I own a Victus and Old Hickory wood bats. I play on a men’s weekend league which is a wood bat league. Love the videos. Might have to get myself a LS for more of a practice bat.
That bamboo bat is literally my bat!!😂 i was on a tight bdguet and just bought the cheapest I could find. But it was noticeably worse than others I had swung, so later in the season I upgraded and the bamboo became my BP bat.
I used the exact same bamboo bat as a BP/practice bat in 2016-17……I 100% agree with everything said about it here. Great simple pop and durable for 50 bucks but the sting was killer lol
I appreciate you mixing in the bamboo, could you track down one of the Mizuno bamboo bats and let us know if they make them any better? I run a men's league team and cheap, decent and durable bats aren't easy to find or try out so I rely on videos like this. Thanks guys!
2 things. 1) I got a bamboo BBB fungo and hated it. It just felt like crap. Swung like a log. Just an absolute club. 2) My kid's coach made his team all use wood for fall ball. Couple of the other kids have been using my kid's $40 Louie rather than their $200 wood bats. That thing is real.
i get the jrod bat is $210 but i’ve been using it for years now and it’s the best wood bat i’ve ever swung from the swing weight to the pop! i’ve used a lot of different wood bats and the jrod still takes the cake
Spot-on on the Bamboo bat. I used a Mizuno 271 bamboo (the one on JustBats) the first half of summer ball (college). Definitely had a couple times where any other bat would’ve broken. Durability is nuts, but yeah the sweet spot is the size of a grape. Rung me up on 75% of contacts. I actually switched to the $40 Louisville from your vid, and I like it a lot better.
I swung bamboo in high school before the demarini composites came out and can confirm the bamboo is by far the most painful bat I've swung but it lasts through everything. Jammed on the barrel, your hands will break before the bat does.
Swung the BBB for awhile stricly for practice when I did not want my RA13 gamer to break. BBB LIGHTS YOUR HANDS UP but pretty hot and pretty good for the price.
love the vids guys. I wish you would do a derby with just the $40.00 Louisville Sluggers. The smiles as the cheap bats crank out the numbers is the best. Just an idea.
Had a bamboo bat once...first and last. Sub-par. Ash does have some pop and a little better swing weight but the drawback I always found was the flaking on the barrel/durability.
I remember reading a while back, one reason why ash bats were becoming rarer was that there was a parasitic insect that had decimated ash tree populations. I am genuinely curious if the move to most players using maple now was driven by purely performance, lack of supply of ash so manufacturers aren't making, players emulating/copying succesful players, or some other factor I am not thinking of.
Bamboo is honestly a good material for a younger player transitioning to wood. It’s laminated, so it’s durable and offers a bit of flex in the handle. Obviously VERY responsive to the hands which helps someone hone in on the true sweet spot of a bat. Great cage bats but would never recommend gaming it.
Hey Will, love your channel. I’m looking to buy my son who will be 12 January 1 a custom wood bat. What company and turn model do you recommend. I’m thinking a victus or a baumbat?
Give me three Louisville Sluggers and call it a day. At first, I thought that Raptors jersey that Will is wearing was a Toronto Raptors baseball jersey.
Bro I swung a Brett bros Bamboo dragon back in high school you could absolutely not break it the whole team tried but it would absolutely light your hands up but she had the pop 😂
6:15 I watched a game there with the raptors and some other team and a Dominican guy hit a bomb onto the second building behind left field. And go back 10 secs
Unless you are a MLB player a $40 bat will work just fine. But I think there is a psychological component to bats. In the 70s I was playing in little league I had a steel blue bat that was my bat. All the team bats were the same Easton bats. But I had my bat. One game our coach didn’t show up and we had to share the bats from the other team. My bat was missing and I got the yips. It got into my head and I couldn’t hit. So if you think that a special fancy $200 makes you hit better it’s more in your head than in the bat.
Bruh the backdrop is unreal! I would love to have a BP session on this field!
Fr I literally chose life instead of death bc of the view
The golf views are even better here.
I haven’t played baseball since I was 12. I’m 49 now and still enjoy the videos.
When I was 14, the transition between wood and aluminum was taking place. For those of us who wanted a good wood sound with durability, our coaches got us a couple of bamboo bats. If u can manage to get your hands on a heavy endloaded bamboo bat it would be awesome they’re just super light so the sweet spot is super small
Dude your videos are amazing! I'm 39yds old and haven't played in 20years but I just get hooked on watching your videos. Love baseball and the mind games it has. you bring so much knowledge to the people on how you explain and video things. Keep it up!

This is the comment of the video. These vids are amazing.
i know the exact same pain you felt. I got myself the same $50 bamboo bat and the recoil is no joke. Finding the sweet spot on that bat is like finding a needle in a hay stack and feels like finding a hay in a needle stack.
What’s up Will!!! Thanks for all that you do for the baseball community!
I had to buy that bamboo years ago when I discovered a crack in my bat during BP at one of my men's league games and it's all the closest sporting goods store had in a 33" length.

Used to have that exact bamboo bat, lasted me all through high school and loved it
crazy u can see the difference between the righty and lefty batters box
Your last line is so funny . Those Ash LSs are fire. Unfortunately a lot of ash trees are dying due to an insect.
I've used this bat for years and can confirm, it rings you up badly. I spent another $50 to get a Brett Bros and while the sweet spot isn't amazing on that either, you get similar durability, more juice, and your hands won't die on mis-hits. Always a good day when bat bros post
My son is 11, he loves his bamboo bat! Practices with it and uses it in wood bat tournaments!

Are you able to review some of the newer USA bats like the hype fire and 2025 icon
Hype fire drop 5 major league baseballs
not sure what's better; the mountain view or those Vans🔥 great vid as usual guys 👊
Hey man, I've been a bat bro fan for a long time and I wanted to say your videos are awesome.
I had 2 of these in High School and while I wasn't neccessarily destroying the ball with it, they never broke 😅😅
I think ash is fairly scarce now, which is why you don't see it as much anymore. IMO ash performs as well (or better than) maple. It's lighter, has more handle flex, and doesn't shatter/break as easily.
I got my nephew the BBB from Big 5. We put a Jack-It on it and he uses it to do a warm up round off the tee.
I’ve got my first wood bat tournament this weekend up in 16u and I’m pretty nervous because I’m 14 but I’m using a $50 Louisville Slugger and I’ve got high hopes after this video. Thank you, Will.
So yeah I don't even like baseball but I love your videos. I don't know something about hearing the bat hitting the ball is just soothing.
Seen the new catx 2 vice?? Can you test out the hybrid tank?
My guy, I need to see 2 bats. First, the “Woods”. Then the Tank 2-piece bbcor.
Love the channel bro. I’m 45 and buy bats to swing in the house while I rewatch their episodes. True story…..
Many great closeups of the Ogden LDS Temple on your center field bombs. I live just behind it from the camera vantage point!
When my friend sawed off my rock maple Nokona I switched to the Louisville bargain bats for derby.
I bought that bamboo bat for $29 on sale 2 years ago for my now 16 y.o. to just have a cage bat. Well worth it for the money!
Is that the mountain Uncle Rico was gonna throw a football over?
No, that was in Preston, Idaho. About an hour from Ogden.
to go from Oracle Park to Ogden, UT, is absurd, you're living the dream dude!
you should test the new mizuno bat
Ogden local here. Thanks for showing our field
Honestly love the field. I can just imagine growing up here trying to hit the mountains.
I had a mizuno bamboo that lasted me 3 years back in highschool and i loved it.
That bamboo bat is literally my bat!!😂 i was on a tight bdguet and just bought the cheapest I could find. But it was noticeably worse than others I had swung, so later in the season I upgraded and the bamboo became my BP bat.

2) My kid's coach made his team all use wood for fall ball. Couple of the other kids have been using my kid's $40 Louie rather than their $200 wood bats. That thing is real.
Had a BBB bamboo wood bat last me 3-4 years. Used it for Bp I loved it
i get the jrod bat is $210 but i’ve been using it for years now and it’s the best wood bat i’ve ever swung from the swing weight to the pop! i’ve used a lot of different wood bats and the jrod still takes the cake
tanks bro
Awesome that you were in Ogden at Lindquist Field!
Hey, when my brother cal miller goes to Utah you should come here at Utah’s new field
You should try the Mizuno MZB243 and MZB271
Spot-on on the Bamboo bat. I used a Mizuno 271 bamboo (the one on JustBats) the first half of summer ball (college).
Definitely had a couple times where any other bat would’ve broken. Durability is nuts, but yeah the sweet spot is the size of a grape. Rung me up on 75% of contacts.
I actually switched to the $40 Louisville from your vid, and I like it a lot better.
Will has that 1988 Jose Canseco hair. Oily looking and curly as hell. Let’s go. Love it. 💪 someone test this man.
BBB LIGHTS YOUR HANDS UP but pretty hot and pretty good for the price.
for light bp i swing a mizuno bamboo and its nice, sounds great....harder swings definitely maple...the bamboo has nice balance...good for kids
I don’t even play baseball and love this channel.
love the vids guys. I wish you would do a derby with just the $40.00 Louisville Sluggers. The smiles as the cheap bats crank out the numbers is the best. Just an idea.
Louisville makes a great product and stays true to price. Knowing they can stand with bigger bat companies.
Had a bamboo bat once...first and last. Sub-par. Ash does have some pop and a little better swing weight but the drawback I always found was the flaking on the barrel/durability.
Sweet bat flip bro
Yo can u do a usssa practice bat showdown??? With what u would say the best practice bats are. Can u also make a top 15 usssa bat list???
That $40 LS bat is a vip! Buy another one and compare them to each other.
Ash in a M110 turn model is just a beautiful thing.
I've used that $50 bamboo bat and it rings me up every swing.
I’ve played at the raptors field amazing experience love Utah wish I knew you were here so I could see u it’s my dream
You HAVE to try the pinnacle sports Maple/Bamboo. Perfect perfect is better than BBCOR I swear
The new catx2 Vince composite looks sick.
I wish I could hit a ball as far as you, you hit home runs with just about anything.
I had a Mizuno bamboo bat for a couple years. A lot of pop and definitely didn't sting like this one.
Can we get a video on your hitting mechanics?
Pls do a warstic composite vid
Have you tried out the Baum composite wood bats?
Will that is my goal. My newest wood bats are all ash, a little denser ash too and they are fire.
I swear bamboo bats have gone way downhill. My highest ever EV at a showcase was with a Mizuno bamboo
Will how much different is hitting in the west mountains vs the humid southeast? How much further on the same hit do you think it travels?
Ayla Turnpike
Hey Will, love your channel. I’m looking to buy my son who will be 12 January 1 a custom wood bat. What company and turn model do you recommend. I’m thinking a victus or a baumbat?
Schaefer Roads
Will when u hit the ball do u tighten up everything
Give me three Louisville Sluggers and call it a day. At first, I thought that Raptors jersey that Will is wearing was a Toronto Raptors baseball jersey.
I’ve gamed the bbb before and its my go to i love it
Parents got me a bamboo bat as a kid when my wood bat broke after 15 BP swings. Bamboo bat is still in one piece 16 years later
VIDEO IDEA: Can you do a video reviewing USA budget bats (Easton Havoc, Easton ADV, ect.)
You guys should come out with your own wood bat line. Call it the WILLIT by Triple B Bats.
Those cosmetic defect Louisvilles can be sleepers like that. Always a gamble, but sometimes you find a good one.
Hey man, ur my favorite baseball content creator and I play 12u what USSSA -8 bat should I get that’s around $250?
What wood bat would you suggest? Aside from Baum bat.
Hi couch neally
Bro I swung a Brett bros Bamboo dragon back in high school you could absolutely not break it the whole team tried but it would absolutely light your hands up but she had the pop 😂
I have the exact same bamboo bat that was 50 bucks
Some fire shoes by Will, literally
I swear to God, if the Louisville Slugger breaks you need to hold a funeral for it, it’s such an amazing bat for the price!
How about a comparison of the Baum Bat against the JRod Victus?
6:15 I watched a game there with the raptors and some other team and a Dominican guy hit a bomb onto the second building behind left field. And go back 10 secs
Unless you are a MLB player a $40 bat will work just fine. But I think there is a psychological component to bats. In the 70s I was playing in little league I had a steel blue bat that was my bat. Can you pls do a review on the black emerald it’s the hottest bat in the world pls review
That bamboo bat is a pretty good bat, especially for the money.
can you guys make a video about the 2025 voodoo only?
the bamboo bat is legit. We've used them forever. Cheap and extremely hard to break.
