Sure, it "died" if your definition of alive is being having a massive scene with several hundred entrants per tournament with one every week. Whoever said the game was dead sounds like a smash player and you shouldn't listen to them. The active community is small, but alive, well, and tight-knit. Games don't die when they fall out of the spotlight, only when there isn't a soul playing at all.
