It's unfortunate, but the logic board was dead anyway (the fact that it couldn't be read by a PC indicates board-level failure) so the iPod was long gone before the project even started. At least the casing now has a second life as a portable SSD.
Another idea for a USB-C cap, take a cover for the male end of a USB-A plug, glue it inside the cap, then glue a USB-C male cover inside the USB-A cover, fill the gaps with hot glue and then do a little clean up work. Or just 3D model all of that and create one insert that you could glue in place!
On the battery costing too much, I know you mentioned in another comment that the board is dead but still, at least for me it wouldn’t matter. It’s about making a vintage piece of tech work again.
to anyone copying don't do this to an ipod shuffle (unless its broken) last thing we need is scalpers jacking up the prices and history being destroyed cause you lot smashed good ones and turned them into ssd usb sticks
@@NekoMichi not aimed at you you said it "was dead/you got it from a untested lot" more for anyone who goes ooooooooo ima do this and destroys an nice working shuffle 🥲(even if its a shuffle be nice to it 😂)
I kindof want to do a housing swap with one of those shuffle ripoffs that can take SD cards, so that way I could have an actual 1TB shuffle that works and doesnt have the cheap and nasty housing that all the clones seem to have
1:00 Cathode Ray Dude also great tech channel, more computer focussed though. I just love how he considers the context around the product and it’s choices.
Man I just thought of something that may not be possible but would be neat, a usb dac with the iPod soufflé housing, maybe with a usb hub inside with an ssd or something.
It probably won't be too difficult taking the Apple USB C to 3.5mm adaptor and using it as a USB C DAC inside the Shuffle's housing but anything more advanced than that would be tricky.
@@NekoMichi I may have forgotten that dongle dacs were that small, I’m using a moondrop dawn pro which is relatively pretty large. I do believe it’s possible but will require custom pcbs so it’s beyond my depth for now.

Well spotted! It's a proprietary Apple NVMe SSD that doesn't use the standard M.2 interface, I didn't have a longer standard M.2 SSD to hand so I had to use that as an example.
@ it honestly depends on your setup and budget, but you can get a decent mic for less $100 nowadays. there are plenty of ressources online that can help you make the right choice!
YES
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
She is here.

good youtub chanel
Hi I watch your videos all the time!
F4MI MENTION SPOTTED
I'm just a little sad that the other half of the iPod's use is now gone.

DankPods, is that you?

Don't worry, this one already had a dead logic board. There's no way I'd do this to a fully functional iPod.

@BaileyMagikz we shall not condone iPod abuse in this house 😤

I'd never thought of using a micropipettor to dispense isopropyl alcohol for projects, looks like I've got another investment to make...
I wonder if a positive displacement pipette with a wide-bore tip could also be used to dispense thermal compound?

7:39 Excuse me while I whip this out!
the title has no misleading purpose at all. he really did that!
I have old iPod shuffle lying around but i don’t think i’ll be going through that but brilliantly executed nonetheless!
Smasnug the words of dankpods

could you 3d print an insert into the cap so that the original usb a hole could fit the new usb c port more snugly?
Shoo-flay
What the fu--, got me dying😂

Can you rip the iPod‘s guts out and glue an USB drive into the place of the old USB plug too?
That's also possible.
it's good to see nekomichi shout out to a small creator like f4mi
could you put a list of music used in the description? I've been trying to find that song you're using in the background for ages

@slash.9882 I've been hunting around the local CeX and Cash Converters for a decent mic, hopefully I'll find something useable.
This was a great video but damn you’ve got some long nails
I like to think of them as nature's iSesamo prying tools.
(don't actually use them for prying)
