A way to introduce a character for the style could be FIL colabbing with Crispy behind the curtain of the Max (other players) and play a one-shot with the new character...could be a mundane quest to feel out the character or even a bigger event that sets up something, co-creating some backstory stuff and also a good reference for FIL to know what his character has just came from. Then introduce them to the table for the players to truly meet them. It keeps the mystery between players...which I think of somewhat a currency that can be earned through roleplay. I get that we are all adults and we can know these things but I feel its pretty awesome to learn these things through Gameplay as that is what player to player is usually about if they aren't siblings or anything close like that.
You know, having just finished the latest game session, I think I would have preferred running a prelude one on one session with FiL. It was especially taxing having to switch between both players. Essentially running two one on one sessions concurrently.

The the setting could be squeezed together somehow. World building 101. Seems like a minimal prep mechanic that buries the rails deep to almost nonexistent. Players will feel connected to the information associated with their areas.
