Non-incrementally nice ! Did you notice my convention? Why I am wearing a blue sweater? that is because the video is not part of the course :) All videos from the course I wear the same t-shirt, regardless of the temperature during the recording!
3:36 perhaps you did not have layouts defined in that SuperMemo installation? It happens to me only if I install/update in a new folder, incl. raw sm19.exe
I experienced the same with chatgpt, about 3 orn4 months ago when I was experimenting with flashcard generation and reformulation. After iterarion the same chat many times Chatgpt started printing plain text markdown. I actually have that in my collection! I didn' thought of that during the recording
Guillem: If you look closely, the installer will update _sm19.exe_ in C:\SuperMemo 19\SuperMemo, not one in C:\SuperMemo19. The installer doesn't touch layouts on update. You just updated a different SuperMemo installation.
Oops. I didn't realized that. I guess that is a product of installing many versions and barely using them in this computer. I will double check that from now on. Ty
@@PleasurableLearning that's the price of bleeding for SuperMemo and making life easier for those who seek pleasure of learning (rather than pre-designed torment) :)
I have been watching quite a number of your videos recently. I think you’re convincing me to try to use SM (I’m currently using Anki to create cards about what I read). However I have a mac... Do you think I should buy a windows computer? I’m not very wealthy
I never had a Mac but based on the community the best solution us using "Parallels for Mac". You can do everything, just that it will be more resource-consuming than the vanilla Windows experience.
Lots of people claim to use Mac with success. Instead of buying, download and see how you like it. Some things might work differently than in the video
if you have half-a-page of text, and pick a word for cloze, bolds and bullets help you navigate visually without reading details. Unless you do a lot of "parsing" in markdown, HTML or wiki texts, lack of formatting will slow you down a lot.
The reason he finds the feature unneeded is becauae he doesn't do monstrer clozes. I do them for the sake of creating items but I delete the bluff right away or at the first rep
@@PleasurableLearning honestly. you need to see my collection. barring some graphic parts of it. on the 25th i'll bring it over and we can record some if it back to the point, i do do monster clozes sometimes and keep them oftentimes indefinitely, but i do learn to ignore most of it save for the essential context, then at one point or another, after getting a clearer picture and understanding of what I am supposed to be remembering, i tend to reduce them rather quickly into simple plain text q-and-a's. incremental reading is tricky.
@@SuperMemoVideo basic markdown is not a problem for me since it's basically formatted text. it's simple to read just like rendered html. what's worse is reading unformatted imports of yt video transcripts, so i keep the timestamps in-text and re-listen to the videos while i incrementally read their timescripts as reading aid

Mike identified the reason in a different comment :)
In his video, Piotr used Copilot, not ChatGPT. That's why when you paste text from ChatGPT, it isn't in markdown.

@@julesd6580 Yes, runs fine in Parallels on Apple silicon. Would probably be fine in VMWare too, which is free.
I don't see the point really, as in the end I still strip everything down to plain text through incremental reading
You are an outlier, like me I only do plain text items so bolding will be lost sooner or later anyways :)
