It amazes me how all of these "traditional Irish dishes" are never served in Ireland. Corned beef hash is something I have never seen in Ireland. Bacon, cabbage and mash would be the closest actual dish.

Also… “Irish” chicken curry comes from a Chinese takeaway not an Indian ;)

I know. None of these are hardly Irish pub food. Where have they got their information from. Corn beef hash is not Irish, Shepherd’s pie is made with lamb mince not beef, and chicken curry is not a traditional Irish pub food. More likely to be served in an English pub as curry is probably England’s favourite dish now.

All that food looked great BUT, the food shown/served is 'traditional' Irish-American food, and not Irish food found in a pub in Ireland.
Firstly, corned beef & cabbage isn't served outside of tourist spots around Temple Bar. What's missing:
A Fry (Irish Fry, Irish Breakfast or, simply a Fry as its known throughout the Isles)
    Bangers & Mash
    Rasher or, sausage batty
    Soda bread w/butter
    Colcannon
    Boxty
    Coddle
    Lamb or beef stew
seafood, particularly shellfish, salmon and cod; Ireland is an island after all....

Nice work as usual Jon. You do these videos so well. I am half Irish and actual have had two family members from Ireland arrive today for Christmas with us in England and it was good to see this twist to the video. Although hardly any of that food is what is served in Irish Pubs. I don’t know what they are thinking. Corn Beef Hash is not an Irish dish and for god sake why do American places call it Shepherds Pie when it is made with beef. Beef is Cottage Pie in UK/Ireland and Europe and Shepherds (think of them looking after their sheep) is made with Lamb mince. Also that is proper bacon used not that fatty streaky bacon in the sandwich. UK and Ireland Bacon is much leaner than streaky bacon which is just fat. Not a lot of streaky bacon is eaten here. Curry is definitely not an Irish Pub food either. But that how the US have chosen to interpret Irish food. No big deal, but just don’t call it authentic. Cabbage and potatoes are though and bread. It was still good to see some of these places you ate at in NYC. Would definitely suit some expats in the city and I am sure they do very well. No Guinness was tried either although I bet it’s rubbish because all Guinness outside of Ireland is not the same. It really isn’t. Thanks for doing this video. Your style is so on point.

Awesome video as always, but why are there way more negative comments than usual? That’s not the norm for any of Jon’s stuff. And it’s certainly not his fault, the video was fantastic.
I get people being all bent out of shape about “shepherds pie being made with lamb, not beef”, but this is the US, not Ireland, and we use beef for the exact same reason the Irish use lamb. It’s what’s cheap and readily available. If we included lamb, it would cost way more than it would in Ireland (or at least compared to the value of shepherds pie when it was originally created).
Anyone that has a problem with that needs to take it up with the pubs that use beef instead of lamb - which is basically 99% of them in the US.

OMG that film The Banshees of Innisheran had to be one of the most depressing films of the year,I know it was supposed to be a dark comedy but honestly I came out and felt like crap and sadly there was no cheery Irish pub to drown my sorrows.Talking as someone who has Irish Jewish heritage and love a traditional Irish pub.
Those places looked amazing though and some awesome history behind them too, could have done with some of that food to console myself after watching that depressing film ! sorry for those who loved it and I know apparently many did but not me..far too depressing, needed a rom com that day not a film about a man who chose to cut off his digits and killed mans beloved donkey !!
Obviously they're your sponsors so I'll say no more...lol !!

It's a dark film for sure. Colin Ferrell did a tremendous job imho.

I love you, but these are all (with the exception of the corned beef hash) standard British pub food. Can we also stop it with the mislabelled cottage pie as shepherd's pie please?

You gotta take up that last one with the Irish pubs in NYC, they all do the beef thing (i agree w you).

@@emmajohnson3291 I get your point that it’s not “traditional”, but shepherds pie is made with beef in the US for the exact same reason it’s made with lamb in Ireland. It’s cheap and readily available.

    • @emmajohnson3291
      @emmajohnson3291 Год назад

@Ninja Tony you're missing the point. The clue is in the name- shepherd. If you make it with beef it becomes a cottage pie. So yes, you're doing it wrong.
