Bailey was such a notoriously slow starter that there's no way he breaks a short sprint record without a false start. It was clearly a false start. The close up at the start line as the gun goes off shows clearly that he moved before everyone else. He still ran well once out of the blocks but he gained lots of time and momentum by jumping the gun and there were some questions about the timing of the race. I wonder what the reaction times would have been if they had it electronically measured at that meet. Bailey ran 60m races indoors every season during his prime and never was faster than 6.51, suggesting a 50m potential of about 5.68 at best so that's a long way from 5.56 for a race that short. I have my doubts.
okay last but not least the record stand and later maurice green runs the same time, what can we do? in an article from germany, manfred kokot tells he also never run 5,61 sec but the reason in the early 70ies for such times was, that they have also hand times measures because first in the 1977 was official electric times standard for records. kokot lost in the meeting in berlin against zenk a top gdr sprinter and this guy never runs faster over 50m than 5,8 sec! what i would say with that, how can we change such old statistics and what do this mean for us, i would say nothing cause today many athlets run faster than bailey and kokot and so this times a erased also 50m are in the seasons very rare - give bailey credits maybe this reaction was correct - obadele thompson runs also 5,99 sec 55m which is a record and never runs 60m below 6,50 sec his best archived was 6,56 sec. here is the german articel from my homeland - a reason to learn german but if you need help i can this translate for you ;) www.maz-online.de/Sportbuzzer/Der-falsche-Weltrekord-von-Ex-Sprinter-Kokot
@Moneyxl00 A false start is any start before 0.10 secs after the gun goes off. Most sprinters take at least 1 tenth of a second to react which is why that's the rule. Unfortunately it penalizes those athletes who have quicker reaction times. What people are saying about Bailey is that he moved too soon after the gun went off. Not before.
I runed only once in life for 50m dash and fone it in 6,7sc. I have good leg genetics and 4years of strenth training. But i have 30lbs extra pounds so when i cut i will be like 6,3-6,4sc and i will train sprints from now on so ill get to 6ac in like a year i think.
How old are you? I ran this at 6.5 but can probably go as fast as 6.25-4 now, if I get a good run with a bit of wind behind my back. I just turned 15, but I ran this before I turned 15. That was apparently very fast for someone at 14-15 not training sprints and stuff. So if you are around my age, even if you are a sprinter 6 seconds is way above average.
@@cheemborg1301 That's not how it works. A sprinter can't move until 1 tenth of a second AFTER the gun goes off. This is old footage so it's not even 60 frames a second. You'd need 1 thousand frames per second to be close to the accuracy of the timing devices they use to determine false starts. If you watched many false starts the false starter typically gets about as much of a lead as Bailey got here.
I set the video to .25 speed to see if it was false and I didn’t see anything wrong. It seems like he started at the same time the gun went off which made it look like a false start.I believe it was a perfect start.
He clearly left the blocks well before all the other sprinters. He got a head start on them. It's electronic timing too so you can't move until 1 tenth of a second after the gun goes off. You can't move at the gun. That's a false start. Clear as can be.
Donovan is a very tough and powerful person. He motivates me a lot. By the way, my record in 50 meters is 10.8 seconds. I have been running for 2 years and weigh 84 kg at 15 years. I try very hard to achieve the result in less than 10 seconds!
50m you need so much explosiveness. No wonder these guys are jacked. I think beyond 70m a muscular athletic body like Gaitlin takes over. And around 100ish is the lean athletic like Usain. After 400ish is small lean guys that take over
Pure false start, I don't understand how this isn't cancelled? Even my grandma can see the false start without glasses and a starting system... The real record is 5.56 but set by the greatest Maurice Greene who had a 6.39 twice in the 60m and his WR in the 60m stay 20 years before Coleman set the 60m WR at high altitude (fake)…
Or knows the rules. Can't move until 0.10 seconds AFTER the gun goes off. You can't move WITH the gun. Has to be 1 tenth of a second after. You can't tell from a 20 frame per second RUclips video.
I ran a 5.45 in the 50 yard dash in middle school, and I slipped on the take off, still broke the middle school record, probably would've ran a 5.1 if I didn't slip.
I think I was the fastest person the world never got to know, I never trained my speed was natural, I was out running guys that was in tip top shape that trained almost everyday, I was on another level but the streets swooped in and took me away.
Even with the false start, how the heck did notorious slow starter Donovan Bailey set the WR in 50m?
Perfect start this is it. Viewed on replay in action !
Cheating Bailey was a fraud!
what do you mean " even with the false start? " this is exactly the point
Only here to see how fast itadori can run
Omg same here
Same
Who is it ?
Same ~∆~
Same dude
I was there in reno. I ran the 50 meter the night before on the same track. The whole crowd knew he false started.
2:33 finished 5.55 !
Maurice Greene on lane one must have been under 20 here
He was 21 years old
Completely different. Look at the head in the start position. Compared too 2 years later. John Smith is genius.

Kon Darras at a competition everyone run below 6sc

August Wannding i was 13 almost 14 at the time
Let's respect former world record holder, 23 years is a great result!
That's a false start.
I watch it frame by frame and it looks like he reacted just insanely fast

It's palpable false start.......😂😂😂
If he got the same start at Atlanta he would of clocked the mid 9.70's
A 4:08 minutes video to watch a 5.56 secs run, makes sense!

Yeah I hadn't seen him run that early in his career and he doesn't even look like the same human being in this video 😮

Big cap bro sorry😂😂 you would be more famous if you did it with 12 or 13
I had classmates who ran 7 seconds which was really fast and i ran 6.4 whats so cap about that y’all crazy
Honestly, i think me and some of my classmates ran like 5.52 to 5.55

no. Just because van Niekerk? Most 400 meter guys are tall and kinda big.
Not really, I had a slow start and I ran a 5.4 in the 50 yard dash and I slipped on the takeoff.
They didn't stop the race, so it's not his fault
thats a clear false start...see it in 0.25sec....you will see move a little before the gun goes off

this World Record is illegal because there was Bailey's false start at the start
Flash in the pan. Because he grew arrogant after setting the 100m WR in Atlanta.
That was a shame.
