BMW Sheer Driving Pleasure - Авто/Мото
I loved my 1980 528iA I had years ago. Always thought the LCI on the E12 was so much better looking than the later E28 especially the larger rear lights and angled Central twin exhausts. The interior of the E12 is also so classy and timeless; wish car interiors are more like it was now!
Thank you for your feedback and your thoughts, Steve.
That interior is so beautifully simple. I love that interior it's the thing that stands out to me.
Thank you for your feedback, GhettoMist. Did you ever sit in one?
@@BMW I did.
The upholstery : brushed cord with wide spacing, in beautiful colours (light or dark blue, light green, beige, black).
The Instruments and dash: again beautiful curves (not a flat plank), big clear dials.
The huge wrap around front screen: with those big flat wipers that sat in a neat line.
And last of all: the sound of those sixes...
Fantastic x
Arguably the best looking 5 series ever. Love this car.
Yeah,This is before my time but this is the best looking 5 series to me!
BMW just looked boring since 2001.
I have one. It's nice to hear that.
E60 for me was the best looking 5 series ever
To me it's the e28
Have you seen the e60 ?
Great video but the reality of owning and trying to restore one of these E12's is that the parts are quickly going to NLA (no longer available) status. Grilles, trim, dashboards, body panels, windshield wiper assembly, tail lights, and the list goes on and on.
BMW has also been quietly marking up vintage parts prices with large yearly price increases. BMW likes to trot out this E12 and their E12 M535i for public events but behind the scenes, trying to own and restore one is frustrating due to lack of support. Finally because the E12 was just a sedan that people drove as a daily and didn't preserve like a coupe or convertible, and the e12 is prone to rust, they have all but disappeared from the roads and classified ads. BMW I hope you're listening to me, take a cue from Mercedes Classic's parts support if you want to have any E12's or other older classic models left to reflect fondly upon.
(Owner of E12 M535i #18, currently in its 4th year of restoration despite BMW's lack of support)
I also want spare part.
Also, I must say, the resale on e12's was horrible. I restored one that I originally owned, back in the 90's, when parts were available, I think the final sale was about 50% derived from the value of the parts , not to mention the labor. So it truly is a labor of love. But I still think the design is eye-catching and beautiful.
I loved the comfort and the distinctive engine tone. Restoring one to original is a not for profit effort. 3D printing becomes an alternative for some spare parts.
В BMW зажравшыеся кощлы.
The e12 still a beautiful shape, I have had one for 21 years... Looks better as time goes on
I was waiting for video about the 5 Series history, and here it is!!! Thank You very much! I love BMW 5 Series!!! ❤
The car is a thing of beauty ,a work of art
Now I miss my E12/8 518i even more. That was by far the best car I've driven.
Bracq is a legend, can`t wait for the e39 and e24 segments.
Beautiful classic slim lines. And these cars hammered the Autobahn.
My dad had a brown 520, it was a facelifted model brought into the country in 2000. Best car he's ever owned, the rest have all been not particularly interesting hatchbacks.
I love the way old BMWs' look. Just the simplicity makes it great. If you ask me, the 5 series was always the sporty alternative to the Mercedes Benz W123.
JOY LOVE JOY BMW .. .
Baker Bmw me 2
... nice, clean video of a classic BMW!!
Great video. Please do one on the second generation.
Mmm! Nice!!! The best classic 5 series!!!
I had a 1980 BMW 528i and put a 3.2l from my 1979 gray market(Belgian) 733i in it. I loved that car! It had excellent power to weight ratio with the 5 spd transmission.

Indeed. Mine was the South African E12/8, and only a 518i, but it was a great car. Too bad it's stolen now (and the other ones in the area are all banged up).

You should go back to the shark nose because on the 7 and 5 Series it's more of a pig nose
Ha Ha Ha I agree.
The new oversized grille on the 7-series, looks like two giant warts next to each other.
@@jeremystig98 hahaha people from 2018 2019 didn't know the m4 grill
@@ardaxy Yeah lol
First car over 25 years ago was the family e28 520i. I loved that car RIP 2003.

I have one! Although mine isnt going to stay stock ;D
Make the second generation please!
I had one of these! 528 with triple Weber carbs, not injected. Best handling car I've ever owned.
+CraigMinns Comments like yours brighten our day 😉
@@BMW You're welcome! It was a great little car. Sadly, I managed to crack the head, because I was unaware of the need to bleed the cooling system when filling, due to the low height of the radiator compared to the head. Ah well, live and learn.
WOW

Can anybode tell me why they named the series the way they've done? Like 3,5 & 7series? Was it random or does it have something to do with anything?
LordvanDarc
Well, the 5 series was named like that because it was the fifth new body design after the "new class" was introduced in 1961 (first body was the 4-door sedan, then the second body was the 2-door sedan, third body was the 2-door coupé, fourth body was the new six cylinder full size sedan, and fifth body was this E12 5 series). Afterwards, when BMW began to classify the new body styles in series, the 3 series meant a smaller sized body, and 7 series meant a larger one, while the coupé was given an even-numbered designation to distinguish it from the sedans.
Alvaro Risso thank you very much, that was helpful.
Alvaro Risso thank you very much, that was helpful.
Dear LordvanDarc,
sorry for the late reply but here is our answer to your question.
The changeover from the New Class to the first BMW 5 Series (E12) in the year 1972 ushered in a new design era at BMW and simultaneously established the series nomenclature that has remained typical for BMW. This enabled BMW to create clear and memorable model designations for the new product family completed in the 1970s, and for other product families. Since then, the systematic approach has facilitated clear differentiation between the BMW models of the individual classes while at the same time underscoring the fact that all BMW automobile parts are part of a coordinated product policy. The first digit in each case represents the series, the two subsequent digits of the model designation specify the model in accordance with the engine type. Up until the late 1990s, these digits always referred to the displacement. For example, the concrete model lettering “525” (or: “five twenty-five”)
The first BMW 5 Series was followed in rapid succession by other new series. As early as 1975, the first BMW 3 Series (E21) was launched as the successor to the BMW 02 Series, the BMW 6 Series (E24) came along in 1976, and just one year later the first BMW 7 Series (E23) completed the new product portfolio. BMW had modernised its entire product range within the space of a few years and used designations from the new typology.
BMW deliberately left scope for integration of additional model series around the core series BMW 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series when it took a decision to develop the new nomenclature. In 1989, the BMW 8 Series was also added in the form of a luxury coupé in the super class, and this extended the top end of the portfolio. In 2004, an automobile was supplied for the first time in the compact segment with the BMW 1 Series. Since then the number of series has increased significantly and BMW meanwhile has the 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series in its product range.
Alongside this nomenclature for the classic series, BMW continually supplemented its systematic approach with memorable letters. The “M” models launched by the legendary BMW M1 have since been named with the initial “M”. The newly created BMW roadsters launched with the BMW Z1 in 1988 were designated as “Z”. And the Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) supplied since 1999 were designated as “X”. The various segments are described with an additional digit, for example in the case of X vehicles: X1 (compact class), X3 and X4 (mid-range), X5 and X6 (upper mid-range). Another letter has been added with the introduction of the new BMW sub-brand “i”. The additional digits “3” and “8” currently provide a further distinctive model designation for this sub-brand.
Since 1972, BMW created a unique system of designations within the automobile industry with the nomenclature introduced in 1972 and its continuous expansion. The new typology advanced to become a role model in the automobile industry owing to its simplicity and ease of identification. Competitors also continually use this system as a baseline.
i wishd id had some day 520 e12 green. 520 e12 green
E39
e39 the best
BMW is an legendary iconic brand and I love you very much, but I don't think you can match legendary Mercedes Benz models like the W114/115 W123 and the W124, in my opinion those cars are the automobiles ever created by mankind, period!
i wishd id had some day 520 e12. 525 e34 and 520 e12
they are popular and they were in 70s - 80s german police series
4:08 Mercedes can deliver driving pleasure, too

my fav along rival mercedes w123

this is popluar in 70s west german police series and early 80s
The 1972 nomenclature is clever. After 20 years,The Benz applied this idea with their cars. But the 2018 BMW nomenclature make me confuse.Such as BMW X2 MsportX xDrive 20d,ฺBMW M5,ฺBMW M550i,ฺBMW 530i Msport ... same X,same M but different meaning.I want to know what is the true M car. M is everywhere.
Now we have small hatchbacks weighing the same, most bmw's are 4 pot diesels, straight 6's are a rare sight, and their naming badges have nothing to do with capacity, a 528 is a turbo charged 4. What happened to pleasant engines and elegant cars?
EU and their regulations and excessive electronics
kalaj bmw 324
Are you caring about a video of the glorious E30?? you have one video of each gen 5 series....
