Had an e39 for 9 years, never regretted one moment. A fairly advanced car even today, but at the same time the last of the classic 5-series when it comes to design...
Miss it every day.
I know the E39 gets the most love but my 1975 530i E12 was so clean, classic and fun. I will maintain that going 100mph on the FDR Drive in night time New York City while listening to Beethoven's "Moonlight" was truly a great experience. The contrapunto of that beautiful music while shredding the pavement was glorious.

With the interior and exterior of the E39. BMW achived perfection. No other 5 series has ever looked soo good inside or out.
E39 Interieur unreachable. Even over 20 years later so pleasant like no any other car. Also E38 ;)

Just bought a F10 with only 14k miles on it two weeks ago. Absolutely love.
I love my e28! 1988 Super ETA that I never get tired of driving after 14 years of ownership. I found it in a yard for $500.00 and now with a little TLC and maintenance, it's now worth $6500.00 according to KBB classic. Unbelievable!

@Juan Ignacio Caino Have an 88 mod. E34 and never heard any cracks from it, the only thing I've heard is noises from loose things I've brought into the car sometimes
I really like f10 generation. It looks like BMW should, not over designed, also earliest ones are starting to get somewhat affordable.

e28 is beautiful
My first car was a e28, drove it around half a year and traded it for a e34 with the m-tech trim. That one cracked the cylinder head of the old M50b25 engine so i got rid of it and went for a E39 530d manual facelift model. Had that car for almost 4 years with almost zero issues and loved it alot. I swapped for a F10 530xd M-Sport three weeks ago and im loving the car so far.
i have to say that what appeals to me in the 5 series is that even if its a generation or three apart there is always something familiar in these cars. Love them.

Used to own a 530 six cilinder automatic from '89. Something went wrong with the engine so I had to say goodbye to it. I sometimes still dream about that car. The sound of the engine alone..

E60 best, loved and owned an e39 but biggest jump forward in styling and equipment was e60 still look great now miles ahead of its time
First bm I drove was anE30 and that started it all off,then it was e28 then about 6 E34 an e28 e39 now back to the e34 and although I have a soft spot for the e39 I’ll stick with mine as it’s so easy to work on and super reliable

With all due respect for others, but my list is topped by the e39 because none of them reach the luxury and sporting character of this true German hit. Second, the e34 because it showed the route through which the true executive cars that enjoyed reliability and elegance had to travel and finally the e60 for its leap in modernity without forgetting its roots of class, reliability and sporty touch of this series.
The later series very aesthetic but zero reliability and excessive maintenance costs.

The BMW E39 and the BMW E34 are the best
35 years ago i had my first 5-serie a E12 525 1975. My car dident have powerstering which it realy should have had to be plesent to drive.That was the second BMW for me. The first car i had was a 2002 from 1972. Later i had a E39 530 touring 2001 and now i drive a E60 530 Ix 2006 during wintertime. The 5-serie car that i love the most is my E34 Alpina B10 3,5 from 1991 that i currently own. I bought the car 2007 and that is the longest time i ever kept a car. Bmw make great cars. Alpina makes them so much nicer. My absolut favorit of the 20 cars i owned is a 3-serie the F31 Alpina D3 2014 that is my daily in the summer. It is my first diesel. Never thought i would love a dieselcar but it is so nice and a all through lovely car. My son has a F10 550i. That car is wonderful, but can be a pain if/when the motor brakes.

easier than the e34? don't get me wrong, I had 2 E39 528i's but never owned a e34. I would assume since it has fewer parts/electronics it would be easier to live with.

Daily a 1988 520i with the M20 engine :D hoping to get a wintercar soon so I won't have to drive it during the salty winter though.

My first car is a 92 525i E34 and I couldn’t be happier about it. Sure it’s got some problems here and there but it hasn’t let me down once in my 6 months of owning it now. Already out 12k Kilometers on it

I saw the new model 5-er wrapped in black-white plastic driving close to Munich yesterday!!! It gets one of these tall lights at the back a 7-er has it now!!
E39 with a 5 speed is driving bliss, add a V8 and it becomes nirvana, go for the M5 badge and it is the ultimate driving machine.

I have e60 528i.i think best of best bmw 5series.e60 is everything is satisfying engine sounds and feeling performance.
Love them and have experienced them all! Currently own an f10 535i and I love it! Would love to still have an e39 540i in my possession

Had e39 & 2 E60's. Loved all of them but I wish the parts weren't so expensive. Now have an Audi as so many bits are used in other vw group cars its so much cheaper to maintain
it's crazy how the e34 had nothing and the e39 has everything that a brand new g30 has.
Technology was evolving rapidly during the 20th century. It had to slow down at some point.

The E12 was a gorgeous, balanced car right out of the gate. E28 was slight evolution of perfection. E34, boring refinement and reliability. E39 the last BMW I'd ever want to own.

Ich hatte ab E34 alle 5er gehabt, aktuell den G30. Bei keinem der Modelle hatte ich großartig Probleme.
Bin dennoch bei all den Fortschritt beim E60 hängengeblieben, noch nicht mal eine Glühbirne war mir in den 4 Jahren(2007-2011) ausgefallen.

After the e34, it all blah. Very few people realize the first five was actually the last E3. I love the E3, E28 & E34. Even though I have an E12, it was kinda the middle child of the 5series.
