It always amazed me how Grant went through all his adventures with one suit !

Great conversation, guys! I also would fold back my single-button cuffs. Fred Astaire did the same thing. I think it's a stylish thing to do, provided the cuff is long enough and the button is placed closer to the base of the cuff.
Pete, I don't know if you were trying to do a Cary Grant impression when discussing his questioning of Townsend, but you really got his cadence spot on.
I think that 20 minutes is reasonable to give the suit a sponge and press, as long as they don't waste any time. What's unrealistic is to imagine they wouldn't waste any time.

In a previous life I worked in a jazz club tending bar, and one of by best memories was one of the star guests players had a sharp young guy on drums, and instead of removing his jacket had his cuffs turned back over the sleeve....I just thought that was such a cool touch!

I just listened to audio interview with Carey Grant and he was asked how he could look so good throughout North by Northwest. He said "I had six suits".
Suits would drape so perfectly on Grant because he was so thin. It was like putting a suit on a hanger. Diane Cannon said he never worked out. He just carefully controlled his diet. But he was too thin imo. Underdeveloped.

Great stuff! I feel cheated that Quintano was not around for me to patronize...SO many people claim to have made Cary's suits and shirts- My guess is that he went to many different tailors and such over the years. Some of his early 40s suits look very much Prince of Wales, but he got a bit less tweedy into the 50s and 60s...A fellow I knew at Polo said Ralph could discuss a button for 30 minutes, so I guess we have a common obsession...

I could listen to Ralph talk about a button for hours. In NYC there used to be an awesome button shop I went to with my co-author, that's no longer there. In Chiswick there is a Vintage market where they sell old buttons. It's once a month but I never miss it.

@@There_Will_Be_Bond Yes, buttons are underrated! I worked in high end restaurants in Atlantic City and couldn't really wear my good suits because of grease and all that in the kitchens...I used to just buy off the rack kind or ordinary suits and take them to a good tailor for fitting and to have really nice buttons put on the front and sleeves. I often got compliments on my clothes- little did they know the were fromm JC Penney!

My late Grandfather Arthur Lyons made this suit for Cary Grant.

Sponged and pressed. It took twenty minutes because it was only sponged and pressed. Still quick, but not the same as cleaning. And it was the Ambassador East Hotel.

They unfortunately do not have a cloth that is a match for this suit. Nothing is quite the right pattern or colour. The cloth that people say is the one is not the same.

@@GLOBALDRUMvideosorry, they don’t have it. The colours and patterns they offer are all different. Some have similarities, but none are all that close. I talked to the president of Holland & Sherry about it, and he agreed that none of their cloths are a match.
