Interesting how the record players are cheap but the albums are about 3x as much as they used to be back in the day. 😀

I’ve been trying to buy a record player because my dad has a huge collection of old records.
But just seeing most of the reactions to these kinds of cheaper record players from people who are super into vinyl has almost scared me away from buying one.
I don’t want to destroy my dads records but I also don’t want to spend more than 200 dollars...
But this video has done a good job of convincing me that I don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a adequate record player

    • @Recordology

Correct....they won’t damage. But if you can afford the C100 or C20 go for it because the magnetic cartridge they have is even better for your records. Also the Collegiate is very good. Thanks for watching!

Try playing your records on a decent record player and you will understand what you have done to them. sorry but the needle is so poor that it will literally cut the record each time it's played, put your record on a good player and it will sound as a high shhhhhhhh sound as you have removed the indentations in the groves.

I've owned all types of record players/turntables. From vintage 1950s to modern direct-drive ones. I'm no teenager...I'm pushing 40. I've been using turntables since I was a toddler, and was into records way before they became popular again about a decade ago. I will say this...these suitcase record players WILL NOT destroy your records with just regular play. You actually have to make an effort to get them to ruin your records. As something to get started with, or just to have next to your couch or bed for personal listening, or even to have on your front porch in the summer when you're chilling outside, they are fine. Of course you're not going to get the same audio quality that you'd get from an expensive high-end setup, but that's not the point. It is what it is...it's kinda akin to portable stereos...you're not gonna get the same audio quality that you'd get from high-end, but it will play and it will sound good. So please don't mock or look down or ridicule people who buy these. That culture does more to ruin vinyl collecting and vinyl culture than anything. Remember this: to a teenager and to a lot of the working class, spending more than $300-500 on a setup is not a justifiable or feasible choice to them. It wasn't for me 20+ years ago. That's why I got into vintage electronics...I could pick up turntables and records to play at the local Goodwill and not have it break me. So please, encourage people to get into this, not discourage them with ridicule and salty comments.

I got this exact record player for Christmas! I have played my mom and aunts old records from the 70s, and my own growing collection of Queen vinyls. And even musical records and a Frank Sinatra from ‘61! No harm done, I love it. It has been almost three months and I have no complaints whatsoever! I love showing my friends kids what vinyls are and who some of the greats are!

Spend $10-$15 for replacement "diamond" stylus. It's much better than the one that comes with the unit and you'll get 1000 plays before needing to replace it. Any good audio shop will sell them. The one with the record player will only last 100 plays before needing to be replaced.

But I am young and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money right from the start. Back in the 80s /90s, a brand new vinyl album, would run about $4.99 - $7.99. It depended on if it was one record or two. I would always shop at The Wiz, J & R Music World, Sam Goody or Tower Records. Those were the days!

    • @Apollo_Blaze
      @Apollo_Blaze 2 года назад

I really miss record stores and especially Tower and Virgin Record stores....I would spend hours there shopping for CDs and finding things I had never heard of...there is no way to do that online, plus it is never the same as shopping in person and holding the CDs in your hand. It used to be a fun thing to do.

I've had one of these for about a year and I love love love it!! I get to play my albums from the 70s and they sound awesome and this player will not damage your albums!!! I love to listen to my original Elvis and Righteous Bros and Bee Gees and Lettermen and I could go on and on! Now, my 15 yr old granddaughter wants one for Christmas!! I just wish the prices would come down on the records and maybe they will, but, for now they are ridiculously high!

I have the 8 in one, but I mainly use that for the FM radio. For my vinyl, I have my audio technica LP-160. I'm not gonna start telling people to buy more expensive turntables, buy whatever can fit your budget. I'm just telling of my experience. The reason I have the LP 120 is because I hate having to replace the belts on my LP 60, So I decided to upgrade. Very good video.

As an old guy who has been playing records for going on 60 years, these budget suitcase phonographs are fine for what they are, except for the speakers, which are pretty awful. You can jack it into something with better speakers, but for that much trouble you can get a better rig for a few more dollars

New subscriber here and I'm enlisting my parents to subscribe as well since I'll be gifting them this for Xmas 2019.
As a lifestyle intention, I embrace minimalism. HOWEVER, I DO wane nostalgic and protective of my parents' vinyl collection. I'm pretty sure Daddy got them as a young man in the marine corps, my parents were dating and eventual newlyweds. I lost track of my own 80s to 90s vinyl collection.
I'm getting this Victrola branded turntable for my parents - quietly I'm getting it for our entire family. I'm all about experiences rather than extravagantly priced gifts. Music appreciation is an experience.
I grew up listening to my Daddy's Hi-Fi on holidays and the VERY occasional weekend. In fact it [Hi-Fi] currently sits in the living room of my childhood home. My mother expressed an interest in sharing their old Motown collection with my biracial, very privileged nieces. They've just started to take an interest in instrumental music lessons.
I see that Wally [Walmart] has a 3-pk needle replacement for $15. BUT my Daddy is old school. I KNOW that he'll inquire about whether the needle is diamond.
Does anyone KNOW that a DIAMOND STYLUS REPLACEMENT is available for THIS SPECIFIC turntable? If so, I'd REALLY appreciate a reply containing that link. Otherwise, I'm happy to continue to keep my mother supplied with the replacement 3-pk sold at Wally.

AWESOME welcome aboard! Yes this should do the trick in regards to enjoying an immersive and tactile music experience! This probably ships with a ruby or sapphire stylus which will not sound any different than diamond but just wont last as long. You can pick up universal diamond ones for cheap on amazon - here is a link to a 6 pack. amzn.to/2KP30gZ be sure to check out our video on how to replace those, its easy. Also, I might recommend one of the Victrola all in one units for much increased sound and capabilities. amzn.to/2QOdmRY

Edit: So far so good. Sound is great and I haven’t had any issues with skipping. I got a used vinyl and a brand new one and they both are fine. No pops or crackles on the used one but that’s probably because of the person I got it from takes good care of their vinyl. Overall, amazing to start out with in my opinion, but I definitely will upgrade eventually :))
