with the run up from the beach, a tip I learnt from doing a few IMW. first time wetsuit around the waist, lots of strain on your legs then really hard to take off in T1. Year 2wetsuit fully off but put into the pink bag, this made it really heavy and awkward to run. year 3 wetsuit fully off and slung over your shoulders with the legs hanging around your chest, pink bag in hand and made for a really easy 1km run to t1 😀

Hi Harry, thanks for another great video. This has nothing to do with IM Wales so sorry to hijack the comments but I did IM Copenhagen last Sunday. It was a cracker of a day and resulted in a PB for all three legs and overall. I just wanted to thank you for all of the great content you put out on this channel. I have a wife and young kids so I train alone and you’ve become a de facto training partner! You’ve got the right attitude to the sport: work hard, understand when it is time to pull back and have a laugh. There were so many Brits competing and spectating. As an Aussie, there was some great banter with the Brits which made the day fly by. Good luck with the prep for IM Wales. Don’t tell Lydia that I shed a tear when I saw my wife and kids after the finish line. She would no doubt have some sharp comment ready to bring me back down to size! All the best from Stockholm.

Did Finn do the most of the bike route out of the saddle?! Great video - looks like you got an insanely flat day for your swim. My tip for those not at the pointy end: if you're going to do the run in 4h+, plan to walk some of the first hill, just after the point in the video where Harry mentions the hill starts. It'll help settle you down as the first bit of the run is flat/downhill, and it's easy to start getting carried away...

The downhill back into town on the paved road is the most painful part of the run. All the best For race day.

Having done this race chasing a Kona slot, my main piece of advice is hold back as much as possible on the first lap of the bike. I knew this prior to racing and ignored it! 😁 good luck all

Hi Harry. Great video. Could you expand a bit on the run. Its a shallow drag but how long does it ascend for?

For the first timers I like to count the buoys before the race. They are numbered and usually 8 (yellow) then a turn(red).

I don't recall there being any intermediate buoys in Wales, unless it all changed in 2019...

No Will, expect lots of boats and other buoys in the water - and no numbered buoys. The first leg of the swim out to the RNLI boat before the first turn is straightforward, but pay attention for the next long leg back towards the lifeboat station because that’s where there’s lots of boats in the water making sighting a little tricker. So check that section out for solid land based markers, plus the leg, and the correct gap in the houses for the leg to the beach.

Fantastic video chaps, well done. Any thoughts on gear ratios? Reckon a 39-28 will be small enough gear for the hills?

Depends how fit you are. But if you're asking the question the answer is probably no.

I run a 11-25 casette today on my bike. Should I, if i can find one, change it to a smaller one? Which one would you recommend?
