  • When temperatures drop below 0°C this can cause condensate pipes to freeze, preventing your boiler from functioning properly.
    This video gives advice to homeowners on how to thaw a frozen condensate pipe safely and prevent frozen pipes in the future.
    We’ve also included information about our 'CondenseSure' device which helps to prevent external condensate pipes from freezing, even in the harshest winter weather conditions found in the UK and Ireland.
    Worcester Bosch's Greenstar i and Greenstar CDi Classic range of boilers have a built in Condensesure Siphon which has been proven to be effective at preventing frozen condensate at -15°C for a sustained period of 48 hours.

    How can people sell central heating systems - costing thousands - if they are going to stop working in cold weather ? A system almost guaranteed to freeze - from October to March.

    I'm having the same problem and I just had it all new 6 months ago and having problems already. And I can't do the warm water thing because the pipe is up so high outside. I really don't know why it's done like this it just doesn't make sense because as soon as the weather changes you have a problem

    Thank you, by reading the fault code on the boiler , careful use of warm water and the precise and perfect advice from yourselves we now have heating and hot water. First thing tomorrow I’ll get an engineer in just to check and re lag the pipe

    ...so I took my boiler to live in Barbados - 10 years later, she's still very happy: "no pipe problems here" (she says ☻) 😲

    The manufacturers need to build in more protection against frezzing condense pipes into the boiler design

    How is it 'fine' to run the wastepaper outdoors when it's liable to freeze leaving a household without heating exactly when they most need It? What a joke. These boilers have been thrust on customers in the knowledge that they are flawed in their design.

    Doesn`t heating up the condensate stored in the syphon negate any energy saving/recovery? What is the point in having a condensing boiler if you are going to reheat the condensate and then dump it down the drain?

    • @alancook2425
      @alancook2425 2 года назад +1

      No this is a discharge pipe and has absolutely nothing to do with the heating side of the boiler,it’s caused by the burning of gas and is a byproduct of this process,discharge pipe work best practices would be piped internal,whereas all new installations should be piped in 32mm to help negate freezing!

    Condensate pipe only freezes if its not installed as per regulations. So if its frozen, it is incorrectly installed.
    Otherwise do as per video.

    • @Danny-is5if
      @Danny-is5if 6 лет назад +3

      Wrong. I've seen many that come within regs, even with lagging, and they still freeze. Its actually better to leave the lagging off so it's easier to defrost with hot water on the outside.

    • @CrowdControl2K8
      @CrowdControl2K8 6 лет назад +1

      Regulations say the condensate pipe is meant to go into a 32 mm pipe, and should be lagged and attention paid to local weather conditions. e.g use a condensate heater kit. We are in London and hardly get sub zero temps so this is not really a big problem. We have installed over 400 boilers and not a single call out for a frozen pipe because we put it into a 32 mm pipe and used external pipe lagging as it should.
      You say leave the lagging off, this would cause compliance problems for me.
      All the frozen pipes we get called out do not have even the basic lagging. As I said, it may be different in colder areas.

    Simply have your pipe drain inside your home such as a sink or bath waste pipe. That way it will never freeze!
