Very informative info on a lovely shrub. Believe it or not, there is a native Polygala not too far from your area in the Santa Ana Mountains called Fish's Milkwort (Polygala cornuta var. fishiae), which is a perennial, softly-woody based subshrub found in the understory of Coast Live Oak woodlands. I have seen a few specimens near Blue Jay Campground and San Juan Trail. Their leaves are smaller than this P. myrtifolia, and quite a bit narrower. Its flowers are similarly colored, and the plant's growth form is quite lanky as it prefers the shade of woodland. Might make a shady understory native specimen for the garden as well!
best in zones 9 and 10..but no temperatures below 25 F. Semi shade is okay, but it really needs some direct sunlight in the day. Of course, every situation is a little different. i like best i full sunlight just beating on this guy all day long, though.
Thank you for this! 🌿🫛

Could this thrive in zone 9b with full, late afternoon sun?
