My junior high concert choir class is singing this and Battle of Jericho which is also by Moses Hogan. We are doing it for our last choir concert this year. After 27 years, this is our amazing teacher's last year here so we are going big. Rocky Mountain Jr. High will miss you Mr. Saunders 😢
#thriwbacjthursday. Interesting because when I was in the choir in Jr. High School we did Elijah Rock, Battle of Jericho and Ride on King Jesus. We had to do three songs in competition with the other Jr. High School choirs that also competed. Our school choir also had an amazing teacher Miss Rose Montgomery that I will never forget. She played piano and would use her body and hand to conduct us as we sang. She always had our voices ringing out in songs. This was so many years ago because I'm in my 70s now.
I am 40 years old, and listening to this performance instantly took me back to 12th grade choir (Alto II, here.) It was a labor of love; learning not just the notes, nor even just how to blend our parts. The truest, and most satisfying part of undertaking this song was feeling, and projecting the SOUL required! Your choir positively NAILED this arrangement - I nearly wept upon hearing it sung so beautifully; so soulfully! Thank you & God Bless you all for sharing your talent...
As a 1st soprano in my high school's concert choir and having sung this song many times, my heart fills with pride hearing it today! Hit those notes, ladies!! 😊❤😍
Straight up cheered SO loud in my seat on the subway haha MAN I love this arrangement 🤩 this needs to be a song for some crazy battlefield or slow mo action shot. I remember staring at the music when I got it in high school and gleefully realized there were seven stanzas for like five pages while every other basic singer was crying 💖
Thinking of naming my baby Elijah and remembered singing this in hs. Loved hearing it again and well done soprano I remember reaching for those high high notes and having to belt that out. No easy feat. Loves this . Altos really nailed this too
Has some great climactic moments! Great rhythm interpretation...its alive and breathing...suffers from pitch accuracy issues at times.. great job guys.
Very much so! I'm a high school choir director. My women's chorus is singing an arrangement of the spiritual "now let me fly." Showing them this video tomorrow for some inspiration! Thanks so much for posting this!
Darriet Clark I apologize for the delay, high notes first require relaxation of the jaw with breath support, along with the expansion of the rib cage. Also think about when you're at the Dr. and they tell you to say ahhhhh, or pretend like you're biting into an apple. High notes should not be forced. I hope these tips are helpful to you!
Brooo who decided it was a good time to talk during 2:30 ? Ugh I hate them. My school was going to do this for the world strides festivals last year and I got the honour of doing that high note but damn corona
Not bad, definitely a lot of moving parts this is a very difficult piece. Some tuning and balance issues between the parts, I think the tenors were using an alto to cover the higher parts, as a tenor myself not a huge fan of that, but overall an admirable job. Keep up the great work! Saw the Original Moses Hogan Chorale perform this live prior to Mr. Hogan passing away, it was a thrill of a lifetime.
In my opinion, this is how sacred (and secular) choral pieces are supposed to be performed - dancing and overt displays of emotion are for show choir. This is by far the best version of this piece I've seen yet. Moved my Mom to tears when I shared it with her.
okay ! i see sis singing tenor & alto !

@@EROOMASM We competed with other choirs as well. We sang Battle of Jericho and we won. That's cool that we sang the same songs!
This piece has so many moving parts it's hard not to sound like a mess, and y'all nailed it!
This is oddly satisfying to listen to, in the Time of Coronavirus.

The girls n the middle on the left are singing the high notes. Pay attention. They are not singing coming up lordy to prepare.
I am sure when we let freedom ring is what Martin KING JR meant. He never would have made it that far as anything other than Christian.
if only you knew what you were singing. it has nothing to do with marx
Anyone else here from chorus cause they bored XD?
Lol I feel bad for those Altos trying to fell in the tenor parts because they're too high for the tenors
moses hogan has no mercy for tenors but they fun to sing lolol
Thanks for showing me how not to do it.
No emotion whatsoever.
Keep negative comments to yourself, thank you and have an awesome day!
Their performance IS the emotion. I felt that in my soul! AwEsOmE JoB!!
