    That's brilliant Graham. I would never have thought of T-Cut, my Royal train also derails for no good reason, more so when the wheels are clean, which is strange,,,, thanks for sharing your tip with us,,,, regards Mark

    Nice one Graham, really brings out the deep colour of the coach and will look fantastic when it's all done , fit for her majesty! I done the same on my APT-P power cars really changed it to a nice darker grey compared to the original hornby version , did come a cropper when I done the coaches, took the silver window surrounds clean off 😱 look forward to seeing your completed rake and good luck with cutting down on the oily rags , every little step becomes a huge step over time, cheers Dazza

    Facinating. Yes just right for a select few locos and trains. A job not to be rushed. Looking goods and looking forward to seeing the train running.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  7 лет назад

      Definitely not to be rushed Greg as it would end up looking worse than if left alone to be honest. No, it's a reasonably long process but who wants to rush it? I just take my time, I pack up and do something else if it gets too much but in the end it will be worth it. ;-) ...........Graham

    Looks superb Graham, they now look special, have been watching a couple of model aviation builders lately they use standard artist oil paints with thinners for weathering washes, then clean down with further thinners

      Thank you Vince and hopefully they will all look special once finished. There are so many ways to weather models these days with so many products especially made just for weathering but I haven't heard of that method you mentioned though but it makes sense. ............Graham

    Thanks again for that Graham I did see the last one and I did the A4 that's now on Chaliebrooke
    But I made the mistake of using T cut colour restorer and it was taking the paint off a little to much but the method was spot on.
    Good luck with the non smoking everything here is crossed : )

      @GrahamFoulston  7 лет назад

      Yes, amazing what a bit of T Cut can do for an old banger Dave - Hazels always using it on me!! lol. Meguiar`s Gold Wax is one of the best readily available waxes in my opinion, I won't use anything else now but like everything, it's the preparation beforehand which really puts the gloss on. ...........Graham

    I get we are three years on and only really a minor detail, but the 67 locos have markings on their cab roofs so the police can identify the train from the air. Great idea, though, polishing and giving the model that authentic look.

    I've used the Meguire's range for over 20 years Graham. I won't use any other product on my car, from the outside to the interior. A perfect product to use for achieving a high gloss finish on your locos too. Thanks Graham :)

    A superb finish but looks very labour intensive, i guess if you do it in stages it is quite enjoyable.Personally i take the easy option and use the Gloss varnish made by Humbrol. After following so many of your video's i have now decided to come aboard the OO gauge club, i am finding N gauge just that little bit to small. I have so far purchased the Bachmann E4 Tank, Drummond 700 and a 2 BIL EMU.As i sell off the N gauge it will help to pay for my 00 gauge stock, track points etc.I am going to build a Southern end to end Branchline. Enjoyed your Brighton weekend. Nearly time to give up the weed Graham, if i can do it you certainly will, any way best of luck.

    A nice 'shiney' demonstration... thanks for that!
    I couldn't do a Royal Train myself... there's far too much conversion required to make it look right for me.
    All the Royal Train vehicles are different from Hornby's HST Mk3, of 1970's Mk2A brakes models from which the are derived.
    Both the Mk2 end coaches require substancial remodelling.
    2920 has a generator in it, so there a big exhaust on the roof, there's 4 grills on one side, the windows are in non-standard positions and the underframe has extra gubbins between the bogies... and even the bogies are different (B5's).
    2921 also has non standard windows, odd roof ventilators and vents, the outer end has marker lights and a plated up corridor, had a different array of underframe boxes, and also runs on B5 bogies.
    All the Mk3's have odd window arrangements, and if they don't it's the one with the big doors which you see the Queen/Royal family leaving from. They also have different roof vents and hatches.
    The sleeper coach (2922) you demonstrated needs one of the ventilators removed and the roof hatch moved to the end of the coach.
    Painting off-the shelf moulds in Royal colours and replacing the glazing with grey curtains does't cut it for me.
    Now, I have the skills to modify the Mk3's, and use Bachmann Mk2 brakes... but for a train that has a limited use... I just can't justify the work involved.
    It'd just be an egotisitcal endevour to show what a good modeller I am... and I have plentry of stuff to work on already! :^D

      Well as you may or may not know I am not into remodelling RTR stock, I just don't know enough about railways to do it so I take my hat off to you with your modelling skills. The only thing I have done is to put a cantilever (not sure if that is the right word) on a Network Rail coach as Hornby didn't make one and that was not done accurately - just as a representation which is what my layout is all about - representation rather than being prototypical, there is no way I could have a prototypical layout, for a start it goes round and round in an oval and that's not prototypical so I'm onto a loosing wicket straight off.
      Anyway, thanks for the comment, we obviously have different levels of skills as regards modelling and I am at the bottom of the heap in comparison to yourself from what you are saying but I'm having so much fun and that is the important thing for me in my retirement. ...........Graham

    • @ukdieselandelectricrailway1890
      @ukdieselandelectricrailway1890 7 лет назад

      I understand completely.
      The funny thing is, a lot of the time, the skills needed aren't that difficult most of the time, and it just needs someone to explain how.
      I know it's self promotion... but maybe you could take a look at some of the modelling videos on my channel,
      I set it up a few months ago specifically to encourage other modellers to do more modelling' and less 'collecting'.
      It's great to be able to renumber and rename your models, or build a wagon kit and be able to say "I did that, and you can't just go to the shop and buy one!"
      These two videos are a perfect example;

    Do you do this often to your stock? I only ask as T-Cut is often used to remove numbers (decals) from the side of locomotives and I would be worried about stripping the paint off.
    Interesting alternative to standard weathering though.

  • @GWRailFan
    @GWRailFan 7 лет назад

    the reason the coaches could be derailing is if you run the 67s top and tail one could be giving more of a push instead of a pull, when you have some spare time put both of the 67s on joined together and see if one gives more of a push or if it pulls more :)

  • @TATICMOOR
    @TATICMOOR 7 лет назад

    Wow Graham I wouldn't have thought to use T-Cut on my stock at all, but by jove you have enlighten me on that issue now. Smashing clean up of your locos and coaches with a car room finished waxing and smooth shining surfaces. Once thing I noticed about your same numbered coaches, one has green bogie springs and the other is dark bluish. Have they come from two different train sets, or one set with added single boxed coaches. What coaches do you have as your royal train (Queen, Duke, Guard) and how many for a royal train rake do you use, since you have two locos the Royal Sovereign and Queens Messenger and do you double head them together.

  • @hawthornvalley
    @hawthornvalley 7 лет назад

    Very informative, Graham. Don't think I'll be doing that with any of my coaches though. It certainly came up a treat though.
    A bit of topic, but I'm not sure if my RUclips is working properly, as I have adjusted some settings in preparation for what I have mentioned in my latest update posted about 24 hours ago. Has it appeared in your notifications yet? BTW did you get my email regarding making or re-uploading the video for creating cab/passenger views from Mobius/Go Pro cam views?
    Hope to hear from you soon

    Hi Graham, I believe that September 6th (tomorrow) is 'the day' so the very best of luck with it and the future. I am certain that with the amount of determination that you have you will succeed. Maybe there will be ups and downs (as on all good railways !) and maybe there won't but one thing is for certain and that is that you will undoubtedly achieve your aim.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much David for remembering - that's impressive!! Yes , tomorrow I go and see my support nurse, I am still smoking at the moment but I have been on Champix for one week now and today is my first day on full dose, a week ago I was smoking between 20-30 a day, I am now down to about 7 a day which is amazing for me and I'm not really missing them either which is important. Hopefully if this continues then in a weeks time then I would have stopped altogether, it will be interesting to hear what the nurse says tomorrow when I see her but she has prescribed me 12 weeks of Champix so a way to go yet but it's looking good so far! ;-) ............Graham

    • @nosnowflakezone3608
      @nosnowflakezone3608 7 лет назад

      That is excellent news about your progress. Down to 7 a day is great progress and the fact that you are not missing them is very encouraging. No need to put yourself under any pressure, the desire to do it will be enough I am sure and it will happen before too long. Easy for me to say perhaps ! Champix is a good name although it sounds more like a dog food brand. Hopefully you will get some good information tomorrow and then before long only the 'steamers' will be smoking at Lakeside. Superb scooter video of Brighton, I enjoyed it and thanks to all those who filmed it. It was blatantly obvious that you were having a great time, Cheshire Cats have nothing on you ! You are approaching the 'fag end' of your smoking days.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  7 лет назад

      That's the great thing about the Champix David, I actually don't feel any pressure to give up or cut down, it's just naturally happening at the moment. There are times of course when I think I could do with a smoke but it passes within seconds and I end up just forgetting about it. I can't believe after 60 years of smoking that it is at an end but I do have to totally stop first before I can genuinely say that of course. Yes, my beloved wife took most of the video shots and considering that she only picked the camera up the day before then I think she did amazingly well, I didn't realise that I was grinning so much until I played the video back!! lol. ..........Graham

    The coaches and locos certainly look smart when they are shiny. Might have a go using t cut and wax to make models shiny. My Grandad had an encounter with the royal train back in the 70s at Wolverton works he was doing a painting job in the works and he was painting the window frames next to the room where the royal train was stored, the next day when he went back to finish the job off his boss called him over and took him into the area where the royal train was stored and said to my Grandad look at all the white paint marks on the coaches the paint had got onto the coaches because some of the pains of glass where missing meaning paint got onto the coaches ...James
