    The Kramer Nightswan, designed by Vivian Campbell, was made for a lighter touch and lots of palm muting so the pick attack is in a different area. Narrower nut width, Gibson scale length, 16" radius, so pretty flat.

    This looks more like a player instrument mismatch. If you’re a Fender player then a Nightswan is not likely for you bro because it’s a whole different animal.
    You just climbed out of a Ford Cobra and jumped into a MCLAREN ELVA SPIDER!
    You should probably stick with the much larger wider 2X4 Fender/Gibson style necks.

    i sold an original kramer nightswan after I realized you absolutely have to have a Marshall stack amp or you can't really enjoy it- but then I bought a Peavey Vandenberg- which I loved immensely - it had the nicer neck profile- and higher grade fret work- and a more balanced humbucker- works better with smaller club size amps as well- i noticed- even a roland Street cube- nightswan sounded terrible on the smaller solid state amps-

      @@vaiisking Its a good thing you did, I cringed when I saw how much the fretboard overhangs the neck when you were showing the scale. I had a made in Indonesia Ibanez with a similar overhang (I dont think it was as pronounced as the Nightswan even) and after a couple years the fretboard snapped at the 23rd fret because there was no support past the 22nd. Im pretty sure we are going to see the same thing on these nightswans

    Great review! I agree, the middle pickup is a turd. I would probably just lower it as much as possible to keep it out of the way and maybe improve the sound. A lot of newer guitars have string roll-off problems. Fret beveling is not a good practice. I like the way Charvel and Jackson and even Ibanez lately do their frets straight down on the ends. Some good points about this guitar, but I agree with you that the middle pickup and the string roll-off are deal breakers for sure.

  • @79lpcustom

    The round over on the fret ends is probably excessive. I have had guitars that do that and it drives you crazy - strings slip/slide right off the edge of over rounded frets. The middle pickup is definitely a turd...(as stated previously)

    Honest opinion! love it!
    Not much I can advise on fretboard edges, happened to me with few Jacksons SL and others brands that I found my fingers were pulling or touching too hard causing to go overboard. And you are right, it is the habit of playing, that's how we have learned. It will be too late now to teach old dog new tricks :)
    About mid pickup, remember my old RGs: this single coil in the middle was drive me nuts, just in the way! Getting rid off will leave you with the hole, so I just lower them to the level of pickguard as never have been using it anyway. Same here, if you get it out it will leave you with gaping hole but on the other hand: do you really using it? Lowering its an option, and if you using it maybe just along your pedal rig extra booster pedal could compensate the lost volume of lowered pickup? Just a thought

In terms of the strings on the edges, I guess its something to watch out for? But it's not like I can't fret the high and low e or something. Thanks for the review though I looked at these things before I bought it. It was helpful to examine these things in detail before I pulled the trigger.

    Just bought this same model - I have smaller hands and figured the shorter neck might help, it does a bit. However: I really don't like this guitar. Yes, it is the cheapest in my collection but still: this guitar has no sophisticated or beautiful parts or details anywhere. I know this is subjective but everything looks very basic and cheap. The humbucker position is terrible for picking. The 1st and 6th string roll over the fretboard way too easily because the whole fretboard is just too narrow! Set up was terrible when I got the guitar - and it is my first Floyd Rose where I constantly have to retune! (Will put on new strings and clean up the setup to see if this gets better). Worst thing: the highest frets are almost unplayable because the guitar body where the neck is attached is just a thick brick with no space for your thumb! My personal view: This guitar is an unbelievable design nightmare. You may not enjoy this guitar!

  • @tomdaniels3392
    @tomdaniels3392 2 года назад +3

    the problem with the edge treatment of the frets is your playing not the frets, Most of my guitars have treated edges including my new Kramer Nightswan and I do not have that problem.
    You play too heavy as you admitted so you are the problem, not the frets,I know what you are talking about but I rarely have that problem, you have to practice a bit more with those frets you will get used to it. if you play a bit easier you will be able to use jumbo frets but if you are too heavy, you are going to be prone to string roll off and pitch issues. My brother plays real heavy so he plays medium frets , if he plays Jumbo or extra jumbo, he tends to bend the string slightly out of tune. I notice that in your video, some of your chords where not in tune because you are pushing too hard. LOWER THE MIDDLE PICKUP , it will give you a nice warm tone too. I lowered my middle all the way down level with the pickup ring. This was Vivian Cambells signature guitar so he wanted the pickups in this configuration when he designed it with Kramer. Every guitar I own if it has a middle pickup I lower it out of the way of my picking.
    I just got my Nightswan last week and I give it a 3.5 out of 5, I also bought it from sweetwater. I wish they had charged $999 to $1099 and just give me a good floyd rose and good seymore duncans. Those are my gripes. $899 was a nice price but like I said, the Tremolo and pickups are basically entry level licensed Floyd Rose and Seymore Duncan's. The guitar is made in Indonesia so it has many little entry level parts on it, pots,switches,tuners. The playability is beautiful, I will be keeping mine, I love the finish and the ebony fretboard,upside down headstock, 24.75 scale and @ $899 and made in Indonesia kind of expected some of these parts to be cheap, Gibson got this one wrong IMO. I would have put a German Floyd Rose and some real Seymore Duncan full shreds and charged $999 to 1099, I hate guitars that I need to udgrade things like pickups and tremolos right out of the box.

    Sweetwater specs says these are medium jumbo frets. Kramer web site says jumbo. What do they feel like to you? • @tomdaniels3392
      @tomdaniels3392 2 года назад

      I just bought mine and they are medium jumbos like sweetwaters spec sheet says. I play a Ibanez with Jumbos and these are slightly smaller, so medium jumbo like sweetwaters says is probably right. If you are familiar with Jumbos you will like them, the biggest difference between the medium jumbo and jumbo is the width. I think they used the medium jumbos because it is 24 frets on 24.75 scale, the medium jumbos are skinnier so you have a little more space between the frets for your fingers. It sounds like you like medium frets, so you may want to stay away from these, they do lean to jumbo side. like I said they are pretty much a skinny jumbo fret.

    I made guitars for customers who wanted a wide spread to the edges. They were great technique players. Sloppy technique or lack thereof players would slip off constantly. I did myself testing them at times but the players who were great had zero issues and loved the spacing. So ... maybe thats what they were shooting for here. Spacing can be changed. I had a Nightwan back in the 80's. Neck pickups were passe then. But I disliked the bridge/Mid greatly as I never ... ever use a mid pickup and when you want that LP neck tone, a mid pickup just wont do. Makes no sense at all but the 80's all looks and at the time these were expensive. Not great guitarrs either and I suspect neck/bodies were not even made in NJ but assembled in NJ which was the case with most Kramer. Maker was Allparts.

This is the first video of yours I've seen and you play very well I think maybe just the smaller scale with the nines on it maybe a little bit too easy guitars and I'm very heavy-handed but I'm used to guitars with a 25.5 scale once in a great while I may pull the high down slightly not very often but I've never pushed the high yield so again it might just be the shorter scale with the nines on it I know you sold it but perhaps this guitar needs 10's on it if you're heavy handed.
