Thank you very much Maximilan. Affinity Photo really is superb. I've been using it for a couple of years now and haven't had to use Photoshop at all in that time.

Very interesting, and impressive tutorial, but kind of complex for beginners. Judging from the comment here, it would appear that the respondents are advanced users. Affinty contains some very powerful tools.

Affinity certainly contains powerful tools. And as such takes some practice to make the most of it. It can be a challenge creating tutorials that suit every level of skill. Though I do try my best to walk people through the process clearly. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Great tutorials Scott! Liked and subscribed. I would really appreciate a video where you go through doing a complete retouch to a face. The layering and masks get complicated when doing some basic curves manipulations to the background then manipulating the clothing and then frequency separation on the face. Followed by enhancing/recolouring the eyes, lashes and brows. Each technique in itself is not too bad, but when I put them all together I'm getting some very unexpected results. Thanks again!

Cant find the Mask icon where is it? I was doing so good but not pointing out things confuse people.

I'm sorry you found the video confusing. I'm referring to the shadow and highlights layers attached to the image layer. They are not only adjustments but also are masks.

    Hello Mr. Williams,
thank you very much for your great tutorials!
I'm looking for everything what helps me, to retouch portraits in a better way. I like your videos. You are able to explain short and clearly.
When I startet retouching, a profi-photographer tells me, that I´m not able to make a good work, without using Photoshop.
I wondering why, and he just says, Adobe ist the Master for Photographic-Tools, and I have to use them to deliver good results. Now I´m very happy, to work with Affinity Photo, Capture One 20 and sometimes Luminar 4.
Some question, is it possible for you to make Videos for:
    - skin texture (Someone told me, that it is possible, to make a structure with affinity-photo, so the skin didnt looks so unnatural after a blur effect.
    - brushes: Which kind of the brushes is the best one for dodge and burn? Which kind of brush I have to use für the best result in skin retouching?
    - Black/White Porträts (How I can get a clearly and cool look for porträts?)
Last but not least, what do you think about presets for Capture One? I work with the Fuji X-T1 and the X-T3 an so I think about the Styles from Mastin Labs for Fuji-Film. Or doesn´t make that sense? Also in thes days i saw special offers for the DxO film pack, DxO Photo Lab an the NIK Collection. A lot of things to spend money...
Please go on with you fantastic work. I wish you all the best for 2020.
    Best regards,

I keep coming back to this video Scott as eyes are a particularly important step in portrait retouching. I have tried and tried to convert what you are doing into a macro so far without success :( I'd like to be in a position where I run the macro and then brush in the iris part of the eyes to easily apply the enhancements (eg HSL and the iris detail brighness/darken methods you show here) then adjust to taste through opacity. Is that possible please?

There is an icon on the main top row called "assistant manager". Click this and you will be presented with a panel which has the option to set this behaviour by default.
