    Saturn and its moons provided the music for this episode! As such, it may not feel quite as relaxing as some of my other videos, but hopefully it'll be just as interesting :)

      It occurs to me that since this data is measured in Hz, a computer program could translate this into actual musical notes. It could be called Symphony of Saturn!

      @deathsheadknight2137 5 лет назад +28

      @@Doonie310 it's more that the reason experimental electronic music of the 1950s sounds similar is because of the way it was created. when you look at a theremin synthesizer, it's basically just a radio antenna that detects disturbances in an electromagnetic field. That's almost the exact same principle with how these probes were accumulating data from the planetary magnetic fields. once you compress the data into wavelengths that humans can hear, it's only natural that it should sound similar to the noise being generated by early electronic instruments.

    I downloaded the audio from NASA and played it back at roughly 4x slower, 4 min 7 secs playback from 1min 13secs audio (I was trying to match 3 mins but misheard as original is 30 mins) and it was even more spookier with a regular low frequency beat in the background giving approx 100-110 bpm. The original 30 min version must sound even more bizarre. It truly is music, but not one I want to hear again in a rush.

      Very sensitive instruments, collects thousands of hours of information which is sent back to us. It's really amazing what science can do. If you liked this watch "Farthest from the earth, a story of Voyager" it's an amazing documentary about the Voyager probes and how they process all that information and photos.

    Actually Cassini spacecraft recorded was an old 60s commercial for laundry soap
    Those Dirty Rings " Ring around the collar , Ring around the collar ". Use New and improved Ajax Laundry soap with Brightners "
    This old add was recorded by Saturn's rings and the Cassini antenna went through the Rings just like an old fashioned record player needle .
    AND if you believe that .....
    Have I got a deal for you !!!!
    Bridge for sale real cheap
    Located in the middle of swamp on Dagobah . Yes cheap it is but strong with the Farce .

    Isn't it almost a little too weird that these sounds are very similar to 1950's and 60's science fiction, space travel movies soundtracks? The composers of those soundtracks clearly had no idea what deep space really sounded like. It's not as if any of this recording equipment existed back then. I don't know. That's quite a coincidence, I think.

    So many people in the comments confused... Most of the audio shown is not real audible sound, space don't have an atmosphere for audible sound to propagate. These audio are electromagnetic, in other words, invisible light or magnetic fields that were digitized into audio waves. The narrator specifically said that. The exception is the last part, where a microphone in fact was used while the probe was descending into Titan.
