Although I think the extinction of the human race is inevitable, I get no joy from the thought of it. However I agree with you that apocalyptic movies can be quite fun. This may seem ironic but it isn't because one prospect is very real while the latter is just fiction.
And I actually like how this film franchise (original and current) has demonstrated it. If you want apocalyptic, the original don't end well for anyone.

That's very smart artistic move, but it would be perhaps more interesting if he did not, for one thing is brain plasticity, and other different stuff is skeletal and muscle structure. Even from a scifi-fantasy approach, it's a little too much imho. One of the few things I complain about the movie is how upright straight the chimps sit on horses. I think they would prefer to be more naturally arched. Other than that, the movies have details I could complain here and there, but I'm not doing it for the overall whole is awesome.

@@mojoofftherobo dawn was probably the best of the 3 movies, I agree. But this one was great as well. Maybe not the best way to end the trilogy, but I guess you don't always need some "and they lived happily ever after" type of ending for your movie.
The War movie didn't focus so much on sheer war combat and tactics, rather the horrors and terrible things that happen during wars.
Movies about talking apes didn't need to go this hard, but I sure as hell am glad they did. Among my favorite trilogies ever all around, no contest, this is peak cinema.

what amazes me still about the old trilogy is how much the cgi holds up today. the new KOTA looks fantastic, but doesn't really look any different than what came before it and that was 8yrs ago. just shows how real it already looked. its hard to make something that looked real even more real. just amazing i can't wait to see the new movies.

I watched the original 1968 movie when I was a kid in the 80s. Loved it. Every new version since the Tim Burton one and this trilogy just got better. I haven't seen the original trilogy version from the 70s yet.

I see a retread from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Replacement of Gary Oldman with Woody Harrelson in a war to save the human race again. I am willing to bet, there will be humans that will be against Woody's character and help the Apes. In other words you are correct.
I' just rewatched Dawn and, actually, Gary Oldman's arc is a very minor one. Most of that film focused on how Apes can be as hateful as humans are and how that hate led the two factions to the war depicted in this film. There is never an actual war on that film, just the set up for one.
Also, Gary Oldman's decition seemed more reactionary and out of ignorance and Woody's seems more like he is just an asshole.

Smart, thrilling, exciting, elegant and layered movie with great performances, intriguing story and satisfying conclusion this film made this trilogy one of the best ones in 21st century along with Dark Knight and LOTR. Once again although it is completely apes movie with only so much human intervention this is another character study film showing that although apes gained intelligence, it still is not enough when dealing with complicated moral conflicts. I liked the dilemmas , enjoyed the modern Masters Slaves story with different interpretation from different characters and overall message of bravery and forgiveness. Do not miss it. 4.5/5
