  • Someone commented about the audio in my last video. I always appreciate the feedback. How was the audio overall in this video? I'm thinking about getting the DJI wireless mic's so that I can improve my audio even more.
    Nevertheless, good test and definitely a viable option for a home defense round. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for a 223/556 home defense round that you want to see tested? Let me know down below

    Most of the companies test using the longer barrels. Even the specs for full house cartridges are longer. For me the best home defense weapon is a cannon at each door. Load up some grape shot and let it rip if someone tries to enter unwelcome

      I made a list of 5 guns I want to buy in 2023, but I'm gonna add a semi auto shotgun as number 6. Probably a benelli m4. That'll be my door buster. BUT, I might have found an awesome 300 blackout round, but I forgot the chronograph this past Saturday 🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@andrewmconrad a better test is the gel. The chronograph is nice but checking penetration and expansion is way more important.

      That's right. Most use a 20 inch barrel with a 1/8 twist and it's important. I see folks testing with 16 inch and 10.5 inch barrels with 1/7 and it just isn't going to give you what this round can do. I have killed a lot of shit with it. Never had a problem. Not one.

    Wow! A home intruder would be carried away with two a-holes after getting hit with that shot.

    I couldn't see anything in the gel. The lines on the outside of the gel made it impossible to tell what was going on.

    I recently got some Freedom Munitions 77g and 69g OTM to test out for accuracy and velocity through my suppressed Mark 18 10.5" bbl. Since it has a 1:7 twist it shot them both very well, super tight groups. My main thing with defense rounds besides terminal performance is accuracy.

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Год назад +1

      Agreed. You have to be accurate in a self defense situation. Full accountability of all shots fired

    The test barrel is 24" per Hornady website. That being said, IDK how fast you thought they would go in a 13.7 barrel. You drop a lot between a 16 and a 13.7

    • @billionsandbillions
      @billionsandbillions 9 месяцев назад +2

      Using 13.7 inch barrel would be the reason I personally would buy this type of ammunition. I already know I’m getting diminished muzzle velocity out of a shorter barrel so I want something with a soft tip that’s going to fragment or mushroom. There are companies that make ammunition specifically for SBR’s, but soft points or poly tipped bullets will do the job just fine.

    Good video. I’ve been very confused what would make a good 223/556 home defense round to not have over penetration. I know they’re frangible bullets but not sure if they make this in hollowpoint or if there’s other factors to consider?
    I kind of gave up searching and went 300blk with a suppressor instead for indoor hearing protection of me and my family.

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Год назад +3

      I am right there with you. I think 300 blackout suppressed is a top 3 home defense round. I found 190gr hornady 300bo rounds that I meant to test this past weekend but I forgot the chronograph at home 🤦🏻‍♂️ that test will get done within the next few weeks

    • @chrissewell1608

      I think .300 Blackout is still to much power, and will over penetrate. A supressed 9mm pcc, may be a better option!?

    I run a 20" AR for my home/ranch defense. Crazy how that round fragmented, it's supposed to expand and hold together like a soft point. Federal fusion or speer gold dot 223 in any grain weight expand in game animals. I would like to see some Winchester deer season XP tested in gel; 62gr bonded polymer tip sounds like a winner for home defense.

    I don't see why this wouldn't work for whitetails at reasonable ranges. Especially with a 22 inch barrel. My son has a Bushmaster with 22 inch barrel and it's 223 only.

    I didn't know Hornady made Critical Defense in .223 / 5.56. It seems oddly useless on such a small bullet, to me!
    But if the bullet fragments, it may be the choice!

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Год назад +1

      It definitely fragments and it'll stop whatever is coming at you especially with follow up shots. I'll be testing a 300 blackout round soon that's not supposed to fragment, and I think it's ultimately going to be a winner!
