    the easiest way to know the origin of the pattern would be if there are SCs in the pattern, since in UK terms we don't have 'single crochet' at all.

    Okay glad to have this. I live in the UK but learned to crochet via US terminology online...the US terminology makes more sense to me as we don't technically have a single crochet. Now when I work a UK pattern I just think oh take it one down, I.e. a double is a single, a treble is a double etc.

    So happy I ran across this video! I was trying to teach myself the Willow Square and it ended up so big because I was using US stitches instead of UK stitches! So it ended up huge and I sat there scratching my head! LOL! Thanks for the info. Back to the drawing board.

    Thank you so much for this! I am new to crochet and the different terminologies did confuse me!

    An even better tell would be the word color/colour. I'd wager that pretty much every crochet pattern is going to have that word in it somewhere and it has the same distinct quirk of spellings according to region.

      This is a great idea . However Canada uses the colour spelling too, and about half (or more) of our patterns use the US terns.
      Lol

    But WHY is there a difference? It doesn't make sense. There's not a difference with knitting is there??? Have I been missing something for the last 45 years?

    • @yourochelle
      @yourochelle 3 года назад

      Crochet means hook UK count how many hooks make a stitch and US count the whole ‘single crochet’ as one.

      @@yourochelle But there doesn't have to be a difference. They all would have started from the same idea, didn't it? Anything in America would have come from Britain/Europe.
