    Why We Don't Teach Readings (yet!)
    As mentioned in the introduction video to this series ( ruclips.net/video/RKWrWRFyfYo/видео.html ), it is my philosophy that it is a WASTE OF TIME to learn the readings for each kanji in isolation. I explain WHY in that video.
    To learn how to read kanji, I think it is best to learn WORDS that contain that kanji in the context of SENTENCES. We WILL be doing that in this series, after learning the meanings and writings for the 118 kanji in the JLPT N5 and Kanken 10 tests.
    So fear not! You WILL be learning how to read them in the near future. 😊

    Interesting, the fire kanji I always knew was fire since reading Naruto as a kid. Knowing nothing of Japanese, and by extension kanji, I always assumed it was flames licking out from a pile of wood. Kanji continues to surprise me in new and interesting ways! Which makes me want to learn it even more.

      Just began with Naruto with 34 right now and that brought me to Japanese XD. Only Anime I always watched was One Piece, but this year I discovered Crunchy Roll for me and now I am sold.

    These are by far the best kanji learning resource I’ve tried. The historical evolution is so cool, I’ve been curious about it ever since I started learning Japanese.

    Just want to say thanks and I’m very appreciative for what you do on this channel. You single-handedly taught me Genki 1 and some of Genki 2. Im officially in japan now for 3 weeks and putting it to good use!

    Great series, but I do find the order you've chosen to teach the kanji a little peculiar. Given that we had 日, 月, 火, I'd expect the following ones to be 水, 木, 金, and 土 to have the kanji for the weekdays in order (obviously missing 曜 as it's way more complicated)

    I already know those kanji but this series is so useful for beginners! It helped me with learning radicals haha

      I'm using an app and it doesn't explain radicals so when it brings up a quiz question asking for a radical, I'm completely clueless. ToKini Andy made this a lot easier that's for sure.

      @@ToKiniAndy Well, I just ordered Genki 3, workbook and answer key. My tutor , who at first had me on “ Japanese For Busy People, decided that Genki might be better for me. Hope it works… I think I bought every book on Japanese available… I’m all over the place… I need one plan of attack… I enjoy your videos and I will be joining your course. Best, John

    Fire kinda looks like a burning fire to me, but it also looks like an erupting (catoony) volcano shooting fire out of the top.

    "hetsuhotsu" is kind of interesting as it is so rare that it's not even a part of the Kanji Kentei material, but it's weird enough to earn it some level of notoriety

    Quick question. What is Kanken

    • @ToKiniAndy
      @ToKiniAndy  11 месяцев назад +2

      Kanken or 漢検 is a kanji proficiency test that native Japanese people take. There are 10 levels (with 2 extra), and most people don't go past Pre-2nd level.

    Fire I remember because I think sparks around a fireplace. Water I remember because I think of 7-Up when I look at it. That one doesn't make sense, but that's just how I've remembered it. Memorization is fairly easy for me but putting them together in a sentence is a challenge. One day I hope I can just read Japanese at a speed that I can in English.
