Fantastic video as always! I'd love to see a more in depth video on pros and cons of suspension setup. I recently got a new bike and being on the lighter side, I find factory sag to be too stiff. But it's hard understanding the pros and cons of more or less sag, faster or slower rebound and more or less compression in real situations. Loved your review vids as you make it a lot easier to understand pros and cons, would love to understand your perspective!
Thanks! For the most part, I think people over think suspension setup a bit. Not saying you are in this case, but just in general. The stock settings are really good and will work well enough for most people, even with a pretty large weight range. There are different springs that can be used if you are way off of the target weight. I did a quick video on my suspension a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/80IvV-jZYi0/видео.html and here is what Ryan Young had to say: ruclips.net/video/rbLltLQCcMc/видео.html But I will keep that idea mind in case I ever do a more in depth video on what different adjustments do.
Awesome demonstration of the new bike (& your skills!) Pat, thx very much. I hope folks can appreciate just how difficult the things you're doing are 👏👏👏. Thx again for going to the trouble of producing these for our enjoyment 😊.
Never mind the awesome bike -awesome riding! Great video too. Glad it came up on my feed. Good to see all the attempts that didn’t work out, and get a glimpse of the saves/bailouts. I’m about to get my first trial bike. Stepping off the thing will surely happen a lot. Knowing how to do it properly (and safely) must be a core skill that doesn’t get shown much. Not that I’ve seen anyway.
Thank you! Crashing is definitely a learned skill and a very important one. I actually made a how to crash video. I didn't get in to every crash since I didn't feel like crashing over and over on big stuff, but it might help you! ruclips.net/video/zMVsim1NIMI/видео.html
@@PatSmage Thanks Pat. I since subscribed and watched most of your tutorials. Excellent work and thanks for posting all that stuff for the benefit of use mere mortals. I saw your bailout video too. All good stuff. Waiting eagerly for that bike to arrive :) Practicing balancing and getting inspired on my mtb in the meantime. All the best!
Thanks! Glad you like this style. I have barely ridden any other brands besides for a few minutes here and there over the years. Nothing has made me want to switch from Sherco!
Amazing video as always! Absolutely unreal content pat, loving the idea of the faster clutch bite/ response..any info on the spacer you have changed to manage this? Thanks dude
I think there is only one thing stopping you becoming as good as the Spaniards: you are not in Spain. The reason is that you are the best trials rider in your surroundings, which means you miss the push-pull competition and learning your EU counterparts enjoy. I would love to see you ride in WC and X-Trials as a regular!
I agree that the only way to be as good as the euros is to join them by living there and riding with them, and at a young age. I was actually very close to moving over there at 17 but it didn't work out. I tried going back and forth after that and that was not the way to do it, so I could never get on their level. Hopefully another American can make it happen soon!
@@PatSmage Well... there is indeed an other way: popularize the sport in the US and grow US talents. Hard enduro is also getting popular, and there is nothing better than trials to start that!
That's one of the best looking trials bikes out there, you have amazing balance and control of your bike, will you be competing in any enduro events in 22 or mainly trials, your very versatile and seam to do well in both.
Agreed. Thank you! I’ll be doing both again next year. Should be a bit easier since trials nationals wrap up in June so I can focus on that before switching gears to hard enduro for races starting in July.
I see you had a 2018 also. Theres a 22 st250 at my local dealer and a used really low hour 18 st300. Are they similar between those 2 specific years? I believe 18 is when they upgraded the suspension?? Would it be jus a 250/300 power difference deciding factor or are there some nice updates on the 22 that makes it a clearly better choice?
Sorry I missed this earlier. The 18 is a great bike as well, especially the factory model. The factory suspension is big improvement over the racing model, and I believe the clutch was different between them in '18 also. There have been some small improvements since then but they are really similar for the most part. You can't go wrong with either! A 250 is enough, and probably better, for most people but I don't have enough time on one to give a fair comparison.
@@PatSmage thats pretty much what i found. I had to dig really deep tho. Not much comparison vids or anything that really shows the changes. But i went with the 2022 250. You really gave me the excuse to buy one. I want to get better at enduro. You made it pretty clear cut what i need to do!! Lol. Thanks again for all your vids. If you ever visit oahu, hawaii i got u.
Awesome video! If i'm not mistaken, Sherco went to a higher 2nd gear ratio, and back to a 44T rear sprocket for 2022, what are your thoughts on the new gearing set up?
Mine came with a 42t still, but it has new sprocket bolts! No more torx there. It does feel like second is a bit higher, but I didn't ride it back to back with the 21 so it's hard to tell exactly how much. Riding enduro between bikes threw me off a bit, haha. A higher second can be better for some things and worse for others and it depends on riding style also. I think it is more about just getting used to it and knowing when to and not to use it.
Nice riding as always bro. I have the 2019 25th anniversary model 😎 but I get some pinging after a few hours use. Have you or anyone you know played with the squish clearances? I run 98 octane fuel at 2%. Cheers bro 👊🏻
Thanks! I have not had to check squish on any of my bikes. There should be a manual with specs online. 2% meaning 50:1? Most people run 80:1 or even 100:1. So I would try that although that would make it rich and blubber not ping. Could also be jetting, needle, idle, or air screw settings as well. Maybe if the carb is set to run decent with 50:1 then something is off there?
@@PatSmage thx Pat. Yes 50:1 is what I run. If people are running a leaner mix that might prolong the time it takes for the head to carbon up, which may help. It was fine from new but started to develop the pinging from about 10 hours. Carb seems fine. It runs nice. I’ll have a go at the squish and drop you the results by reply. Thx for the vids bro. 👊🏻
Thanks, glad you like it! It is an Insta360 One R. It can help make solo filming more interesting since you can add some tracking motion to a static tripod shot.
They are the same generation of frame/engine so a lot of things are similar, but small refinements each year have made for better bike overall. Mainly engine and suspension improvements along with some little things like an easier mounting system for the air filter.
Looking online it shows the part number as 6680. There are two different sizes, 1mm and 1.2mm. It comes with a 1.2mm and the thinner one actually makes it quicker/stiffer. I will do a video on it soon.
Well I tried TMT the day after this but had some wicked blisters so didn’t get in too much riding. I almost gave up on this video because of them actually. TMT was looking good though! I’m sure I’ll be back soon.
Gotta break it in right, haha! No plans for Europe for me, sorry. I have given up trying to make that happen, but I'm happy to have tried. It is cool to have experienced so much over there.
I haven’t touched any suspension clickers on this bike yet. I usually go a click or two to slow it down a little depending how they set it from the factory, but wanted to run it as is for a bit.
