Thank you, Kelly, for your message, wisdom and humor. Human connection is so important now given many nations were experiencing an epidemic of loneliness and social isolation before the pandemic. The physical isolation to prevent virus transmission has made matters worse, even though it was necessary to protect vulnerable people in society. Now, coming out of the pandemic, people are longing for connection, which we all need for the sake of our individual and collective emotional and physical health. It seems to me that American and other nations that have seen rising disconnection over the last few decades have an opportunity to reconnect and set a new, more sustainable course for the future that places a higher value on relationships and community.
Kelly, I noticed that you are going to be interviewing Melinda Gates. My wife and I saw Melinda speak at at Harvard Business event in New York City some time ago and she mentioned that there were aspects of Microsoft's culture that she didn't like, namely that it lacked much human connection. Melinda also gave a very thought provoking graduation speech at Duke about connection and the meaning of life. I look forward to hearing your interview with her given you both care deeply about people and value meaningful relationships in life.
