I'm retired Marine Recon, I trained with Royal Marines back in 87, they were solid troopers, good bunch a guys, we had a lot in common , and we learned from each other, this video is no surprise to me.
You gotta consider that most of the time, these pirates are desperate, malnourished young men. Who'd probably prefer to be in custody of the marines or western government over conditions back home. Why waste your life by shooting back at well armed Marines with your dusty old AK while they're shadowed by a helicopter and a frigate?
Its a win win for Somalian pirates if they get caught they go to prison in Europe and when let out of prison they get citizenship of the country that caught them

Personally, I don't have any mercy for Somali Pirates. Word needs to get out that captured pirates are not treated as heros by the Capturing Forces. These people have very few options for survival in a war-devasted country. Without looking through rose-tinted glasses ther is definitely that background as context. However discouraging the activity, and returning stolen property, without harming anyone, is definitely the best outcome.🙂

They wouldn't of known them to be Royal Marines to be fair, as they are indistinguishable from the Royal Navy personnel who were also there. Normally it's the sight of a heavily armed warship and the helicopter with a HMG (heavy machine gun) that really lets them know the game is up. There's no question though, the enemy have often been heavily demoralised knowing the Royal Marines are coming!
Well it's what these guys train for, and I believe they do it rather well. If I had hijacked a vessel, the last thing I would want to hear is "The Royal Marines will be here shortly". Hearing that would probably have the same effect of an extremely strong laxative.
The Royal Marines was busy capturing pirates and freeing three ships crews and they must have been very happy to be on their way and glad to be helped by the British marines.

They are SOF capable, train like SOF, are as fit as SOF, and carry out SOF missions, and do a lot of SOF stuff on deployments anyways, they just don't have the label of "Special Forces" that's all. For reference, if they were put into the US military system, they would be under USSOCOM alongside SEALs, MARSOC, 75th Rangers, PJs & CCTs. However, in the British military they that "SF" part is only meant for Tier 1 type units like the SAS/SBS/SRR, who are the British equivalent to Delta, DEVGRU & the ISA.

They are feed, medicated, and handed to authorities to be judged...In less than 3 months are at sea again. In ancient time pirates where hanged on the spot or maybe dragged under the ship's hull for a couple of times. Should it be done nowadays ?
Mick Wilkinson In the nineteen fifties, during the Korean conflict, I served on the R.F.A. Wave Laird, a supply refueling vessel, , but we were all merchant seamen, not Royal Navy, so I.m a bit puzzled as to why the R.F.A. Fort Victoria had Royal Marines aboard.
They are all sponsored reserves in the RFA now....Most RFA's have point Defence weapon systems, small arms and force protection. They are basically armed up Lloyds Civvie Spec. With flight decks and marines.
If the pirates were dumped overboard the pirates would get the message that their days are numbered! Just arresting them and letting them go solves nothing.

Royal Marines commandos are special forces. They carry out lots of operations that the public never hears about, as do non RM commandos.
