Nobody does the classics like the Marinsky and their dancers.The Vaganova school Ifeel definitely has the edge over the Bolshoi in terms of not just the phenomenal technique they impart to their dancers, the picture perfect productions,and the rigorous training and iron discipline is there for all to see.Svetlana Z my favourite ballerina reached great heights with the Marinsky where she had her early training.To date her early Giselle La corsaire laBayadere Swan Lake and others with Roberto Bolle and Igor Zelinsky have no equal.Though Somova is a fitting successor to Svetlana legacy at the Marinsky, something is missing.Maybe it’s Svetlanas height beauty and amazing figure and the most exquisite feet hand in hand with other qualities that gave her the edge
Also her acting was AMAZING. She started the adagio as a joyous, fluttery teenager, eager to enjoy her first dance. As the adagio went on, she gained in power and elegance while still projecting an exquisite joy. Finally her last attitudes captured her lovely new found maturity. A great artist.
It’s overall one of the better Rose adagios that I’ve seen. Footwork is light and upper body and arms are free and loose. However the balancing was a bit disappointing at the end. You either do both parts hands back in fifth position or you do the one at the end. She rushed through the first and didn’t even try the second one. But if she worked on that it’ll be a huge improvement.
worst princess Aurora I have ever watched and I have watched plenty..live. I find her totally NOT graceful and VERY stuck up. not only in this role but all of her roles. She comes across as very arrogant all the time. Even when she was a student. !
You may find she appears arrogant because of the way her chin juts out which is a facial feature. But she was very much beaten down in her beginning because people believed her unworthy of the lead roles she got. And she struggled trying pull them off so early in her career as well. Pushed by her elders to do roles and then pushed harder to do them better which is pretty difficult for a recent graduae who was as weak limbed as her. I was never a fan but I believe she always knew she had so many imperfections. They were put in her face constantly when coping with lead roles early in her career. While others get to work them out gradually without so much attention on them.
