@@danielkells6021 Gene Simmons? He is a really chill dude. Have you never heard about Detroit Metal City? It's basically an anime/manga that parodies Hard Rock and Metal bands and also makes fun of KISS. Yet, Gene Simmons was even promoting it and made songs for that series. Actually, about the porygon one: at the time, no one knew that flashing lights could trigger epilepsy. Nothing like that had ever happened before. Because of that, now all games got warnings on their manuals
Sinmenon the wrost thing is about the porygon episode is after that they contained a scene in Pokémon 4 ever Where bisship Gets shocked my pikachu how is that a scene of possible consequences. How is that scene not banned from tv
Lauren Sprungl Reminds me of YGO, when they ban a card that was part of a degenerate combo, rather than the card that allowed it to happen in the first place, and will do it again if they're not careful/someone finds a substitute for the card they banned.
@@SakuraAvalon Usually, in these circumstances, the oldest card necessary for a combo is banned. That's why Norden took out a bunch of little guys, why the Dragon Rulers were banned piecemeal after chunking most Dragon support, etc. The only exceptions thus far to this rule have been Instant Fusion, which has taken out a half dozen cards to protect itself, and Blaze Fenix, who murdered half the game at one point due to it finding so many different FTKs.
"Dangerous" Those toys where for 3 plus.. As most fast food toys are. 13 and 4 months? Why did the parents leave them unattended with toys not intended for babies? I never understood that honestly Its a tragedy tbh tho
@Grima the Fell Dragon I was 13-14 and wondering why those babies died... Where where the parents? Did an older sibling get the toys and leave them lying around? It could have been any small toy or thing.... Heck at that young the 4 month old coulnt even crawl or hold its head up. How did that happen to the 4 month old? Like? 4 moth olds can barely grab stuff??? A 13 month old can crawl or walk.. And grab things.. But..
@Grima the Fell Dragon I can sort of see them stuffing their face in one half of the ball and ... But you'd have to hold it there or suck in air continuously? It's natural to breath out? And breathing out would push the plastic off woulnt it? It's a real stretch that these are killer toys.. You have to really work to die that way and now I'm suspecting foul play. Especially considering how small a 4 month olds face and nose are.. And how big the pokeballs where.
I think gen 5 still deserves criticism for it. They were obsessing about that they *could* make an entire new dex, with no regard to if they *should*. This resulted in a lot of clones of prior gen's mons, which just felt like crappy off brands most of the time. (Seriously, who would look at roggenrola and say "this beats geodude any day"). Does gen 5 deserve to be cruxified for the sin of trying to be different? No. But it deserves criticism.
About Jynx: "In Japan, Jynx is understood to be a cheap shot at ganguro, a fashion trend that involves gaudy clothes, unusual amounts of makeup, and bleach blond hair. The most extreme practitioners of the look were labeled yamanba, a reference to the legend of Yama-uba. According to the stories, Yama-uba lives alone in the icy mountains and lures wayward travelers into her cabin to devour them. Jynx's unusual Ice/Psychic typing really only makes sense once you understand the "flesh devouring mountain witch" connection."
Pikachu gets away with "murder" and the innocent Porygon, and evolutions of, gets axed from the show PERMANENTLY. Life is good, when you have mascot privilege it seems.
Well, to be fair, that episode happened in Porygon's world....if Pikachu hadn't been there when he shot those missiles, they probably wouldn't have exploded in such a technicoloured way. Maybe it was more a case of banning Porygon and its evolutions from the show to prevent anyone from travelling back to their domains. I mean, that's literally the only reason I can think of that makes any sense....^^;
Kill Dozer it still doesn't make sense. Pikachu was the reason for the seizures, and would still have that potential if no one had figured out the link between his attack and said seizures.
@@nicholasfarrell5981 Well, in the grand scheme of things, Porygon was the one who received the punishment becuase Pikachu being removed from the show or other Pokemon material was probably a big no-no at the time.
"It's baffling to me that no one picked up on this during production." Incredibles II: "Yeah, Pixar. Who could've seen bright flashing imagery giving kids seizures?"
Well, Incredibles 2 had an epilepsy warning at the beginning of the original cut, and edited it to not have an epilepsy trigger later. Since nobody knew Epilepsy could be triggered from bright flashing lights when Porygon came on, it didn’t have that.
@@goroakechi6126 The movie itself didn't have an epilepsy warning. Theaters had to hang signs to warn people. Not every theater put them up on release, so there were reports of people going to see the movie and getting hospitalized cause they didn't know. Later on the movie was re-edited to have the scenes changed (most of the changes were making the characters not flash alongside the backgrounds), but it doesn't change the fact that Pixar didn't realize the scenes could be a problem until way, WAY too late.
@@goroakechi6126 Yup. Our theater had signs outside on its doors warning of flashing lights, and not during the movie. Other news reports at the time show the same thing. Disney's official Twitter and Facebook channels had nothing about them either until the day after the movie's release There weren't any official warnings until digital and physical releases, and by then they edited the scene down so it was safe.
While there were people upset at not having their favorite Pokemon in S&S, it goes much deeper than that. The excuse was because "The graphics and everything are updated because it's a console game!", but not only were the battle animations still shit, there was evidence the graphics were just as bad, and that the Pokemon models were reused.
Sea Biscuit I don’t think people *want* new battle animations, what they *wanted* was all Pokémon in the game. When GF said no to that and explained that they put more focus on the animations, people would only forgive GF if the animations were top notch for everything. Anything less and it’s not worth removing half of the Pokémon. I agree with you that Sword and Shield is a good game for what it is, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still pissed at GF over their apparent tone deafness toward their fans. All they needed to do is say “we were rushed for time but we’ll add them in later updates” or “we heard your complaints and will fix it for next game.” Instead they stuck to their guns and said that they don’t care what we think, they’ll continue to cut Pokémon for every future installment.
Not to mention GameFreak's actions didn't help matters too when they contradicted everything that was said. Also splitting up the small workforce when you're already working on big title to work on smaller one wasn't the best course of action either Look at how Little Town Hero came out: in the eyes of the gaming community it was a flop.
Yeah, I love this strawman that people are mad because their favorite didn't make it in. Hell, I'm used to the idea of my favorites not being readily available and needing to be imported. The issue was Game Freak LIED to its player base and said we'd be getting new animations to make up for and then DIDN'T do it. But, Sword and Shield are the best selling games in the franchise, so I guess the masses like being lied to. I'll be over here playing Gen 1-6 if anybody needs me.
@Sea Biscuit I wouldn't even see adding individual animations for every pokemon... It's not incredibly hard work - mainly tedious - and if you have the financial status Nintendo has you could easily outsource this and get everything done in reasonable time... The main problem simply is that gamefreak/Nintendo simply see it as a waste of money and time because pokemon fans are like fifa fans - eating everything that's served to them. So why make an effort and put more money into production? Another personal thing I don't like about the newer games is how easy they are with no hardmode option... GF could easily implement an isolated nuzlocke mode/randomizer mode without a lot of effort to keep hardcorefans happy
Personally, I think if Jesus were to ever walk the surface again today, He'd probably pick up a Pokemon game, if for nothing else, to prove a point. Also, I don't think I'd blame Pokemon for those two babies that suffocated; I'd rather blame the careless parents that left those ball halves in their tiny hands.
Agreed tho it also falls to Burger King if they did not put choking or suffocation hazard on the product though it is common sense at least then they can say they warned them.
Still not too bummed out about that. I am sad that I can’t have my precious Teddiursa in Shield, but I’m not just gonna catch a Bidoof or a Geodude for the sake of a two sentence entry and then not use it. As long as I have my Roserade, I’m happy.
I didn't even know about the National Pokedex not being in the new games, so that's pretty new to me. But still, stranger things have happened involving Nintendo games, so...
@@travisprescott9708 you can't really blame them for that every company does what they can to save face EVERY company(except for maybe EA) so i guess any company that cares about keeping their fans will do whatever they can to save face. in all honesty they most likely just didn't want to put that much effort into that part to focus on other stuff instead. i honestly don't have a problem with it. companies lie all the time to do whats best for the company. controversies can become out of hand and completely ruin a company even for the tiniest things, so to me this doesn't really mean much
I've heard of every one on this list; brings me back man. I laughed so hard when I played Black and Blue when it was first put up. Also when I saw Registeel in Pearl for the first time I was like "uhhh is this alright?" and then smirking when I saw the change in Platinum.
There's a difference between "critiquing" and "whining like a crybaby because tiny details aren't to one's liking"... which is what entitled people tend to wind up doing.
@@supermarioindia Yes, criticisms also depend to one's liking. The difference lies in how the person does the critique: By stating facts and personal opinions to calmly discuss their point and why they don't like one part or another of the game... Versus throwing a hissy fit, doing the bacon dance and screaming obscenities with a handful of comprehensible words in there to barely state the point.
At absolute minimum they used identical animation rigs to the ones from Sun and Moon. I mean there is an infinitesimal chance that the models need to be changed in some minor ways between the two consoles but otherwise they might as well be the same. What grinds my gears is the battlefield layout. When the Let’s Go games have more attention and detail put into the places you can have Pokemon battles then something clearly went wrong during development.
GameFreak lied in Gen 1 and Gen 2, and nobody complained about that. They said Ghost types were strong against Psychic when they were in fact useless, but nobody complained about that. They said several of the special Pokeballs had special catch rates when they didn't, but nobody complained about that. And don't tell me "those were just glitches so they don't count", because if these were in Gen 8, the fanbase would automatically count them, glitch or otherwise, because bias.
And then they didn't use new models to get the game shipped. Or maybe they did make new models, and they look exactly the same as before, because _of course they fucking do._ They're fucking Pokemon. What the hell do you want? There's only so many things you can do to make a fucking Pikachu look better. Do you want real-time ray tracing? Do you want Gardevoir porn available in-game? Do you want Meowth to start packing an AK-47? Would that make you happy? Of course it wouldn't. Entitled manchildren like you need something to be outraged about to make yourselves feel important. The fact that you had to crack into the game's code to be able to tell just proves how *_completely fucking meaningless_* it is. Not to mention that's your interpretation of "new models" in the first place, which was already translated from Japanese to begin with. I guess it's fitting that the Pokemon fanbase needs to _grow the fuck up._ Why don't you go shit out 891 3D models and animations for every move they can use, 728 skill animation effects, and textures and particle effects for both and tell us how long it takes. Oh wait, no, that's just for the Pokemon alone. Go ahead and map out and model about a hundred square miles of land, the inside of four dozen buildings, and seperate battle arenas for every possible setting.
It's weird that I came from a super religious family, and yet there I was playing Pokémon, listening to metal, collecting 40K figures, and my parents never had a problem with it.
Kwatcher100 Gen 1 also has THREE genetic scientific evolution Pokémon. It’s a fictional universe. Let it have its fun. And the only people who are offended by this are Christian extremists.
I don't think the National dex controversy would have blown up so hard if it wasn't for the fact that they lied about having to make models from scratch clearly they had models ready or save from the 3DS versions and half the attack animations are just lazy
It seemed rather overt to me. Everything's relative though I guess. It's subtle compared to some things of that nature on RUclips. Which says a lot imo. Whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
The problem isnt neccesarily the lack of national dex The problem is that most people agree the new stuff doesnt justify so much cut content with the huge leap in tech And that the switch version of bank is holding peoples pokemon hostage And that the postgame seems to be whack And that they lied to us about how they intended to use the x and y models And many others
alright, constructive opinion on the natdex thing here the problem wasn't really the dex cut itself, but the motives GF stated for it, better graphics, better models, better game overall, better animations, which i honestly don't mind, quite on opposite, i would cheer for such a game thing is, we didn't got delivered any of the things promised, the graphics are better than any other pokemon game, yes, and that isn't a great feat, but it pales in comparison with other Switch games the animations and models are mostly reused, and yeah we got six (6) really good animations for six (6) pokemon, out of how many? if every pokemon had a single animation like Pyro Ball now that would be great, but that isn't the case And of course boycotting wouldn't ever work, its Pokemon after all, its going to sell like hotcakes just because of the name brand on it tl;dr: people are mad at being lied to rather than the actual content cuts
While the issues you raise are valid, I think more fans would have ignored them if they didn't cut the national dex. Dexit as well as the excuses are both problems.
Don't forget, the National Dex was like a catalyst for people realizing many of the other tons tons upon of features that have been removed in the past. Megas, Z-Moves, Battle Frontier, Following Pokemon, PSS, DexNav, Ball Seals, Underground, Soaring, Contests, etc.
@@Sugarman96 That is very true Honestly, I think Gamefreak brought it onto themselves the moment they opened their mouth, nobody ever cared about visuals in a pokemon game until GF themselves brought it as the reason of the cut Sad thing is we could have got a great content game without the natdex, or a game with the usual formula of mediocre everything but at least with the natdex in....and we got neither, we got the worst of both
@DragoSmash Exactly! Spot! On! Reusing assets is acceptable. Most developers do that. But outright LYING to your customers is something else entirely. We need more fans like you.
In the case of the anime episodes you could chalk it up to how Japan really isnt as sensitive to that kind of stuff as we here in the West. One example I love to go to for that is Super Sentai, or for us Power Rangers. Super Sentai is still a show mostly aimed at kids. With the goofy humor, charming and cheesy personalities, the bright color schemes, etc. But they arent afraid to put more mature stuff. Like in Gokaiger in the very first episode an alien invasion happens and innocent get shot in the first episode. Not stunned. Shot. Like shot down dead. Also when they demorph you see them beaten, bruised, and bloodied.
Western Echidna Sadly, Japan is also the reverse when it comes to gaming. As they don't see it as an art form, like the West does. So games that target adults(M rating), can get heavily censored in Japan. RE7 had a bunch of its gore censored in the Japanese version. Same with RE2's remake.
@@SakuraAvalon that depends on the type of mature content. They are fine with sexual mature content. But are more strict on extreme violence, like blood and gore.
Western Echidna Even that's debatable. In Smash Bros, Sakurai had multiple times where he had to keep changing the game, because the girls were too 'sexual'. That's why Palutena's dress had to be lengthened, and all the girls had shadows put under their dress, because the chance of seeing panties was just too much to be allowed in an all ages game. Funny enough, Palutena is uncensored in the Western version of Smash 4. And would have remained uncensored in Ultimate, if it wasn't too much work to make two versions of the same game, just to meet Japan's more stricter requirements.
@@SakuraAvalon in the case of Smash (which isnt rated M) it's more on Sakurai himself who didnt want the age rating to be bumped up from E. Also with Smash they have to always think of the audience outside of Japan. Example of the "too sexy" would be Mai and Bayonetta. Bayonetta got in since they were able to edit her so she still has the poses, sass, etc. and still be identifiable and be true to the character. Mai on the other hand couldnt be edited in a way that would keep the age rating and keep her identity (which in part is her sexual appearance). Also the ratings boards in Japan are different than the West
Alan Finck the interesting thing is if this happened in a show not targeted at kids most of the seizures probably wouldn’t have happened. Children and adolescents are more prone to have a photosensitive seizure than adults oddly enough. My seizures aren’t photosensitive but apparently it is very rare, about 3% of the population actually has photosensitive epilepsy.
From what I remember, the show didn't go on hiatus. It was canceled. It was the act of tons of Japanese children writing into the TV station and other acts that lead them to bring the show back.
#6 seems a bit... misleading. Pardon me if this seems like a nitpick, but the toys in question were designed by Hasbro, distributed by Burger King, and passed their consumer safety testing. Sounds like there might have been no warning about it being a choking or suffocation hazard... but that last one is kind of obvious. I know, I sound like a monster saying that, but it shouldn't take a warning label on such a product to realize it could be a suffocation hazard for *toddlers.* Stressing that, because the ages were 13 months and 4 months old *and* the second death was after the recall.
AU sequels where the sword and shield dudes did stuff and messed up and Hop and main character weren't around and everything is more punk and goth Oh man
The worst part about the Porygon episode (aside from the 700 kids getting seizures, obviously that takes the cake), is that we haven't seen Porygon or any of its evolutions in the anime ever since. Which is a shame because Porygon's final evolution, Porygon-Z, is honestly one of the weirdest and most interesting Pokemon ever. Its Pokedex entries constantly reference the fact that the software used to update Porygon-Z "did not work as planned" and caused it to "act strangely". So I guess we will never actually get to see what even happened to this guy in the first place.
I have a feeling this comments section is going to end poorly. EDIT: Nice work getting the National Dex controversy out of the way quickly. I think the comments section is saved after all.
I remember an old 20/20 report where one of the parents complained about the TCG, saying that it should just be the one set and that's it. No booster packs or expansions.
To be fair to the Pokémon anime, Bugs Bunny was cross dressing and dealing with realistic firearms being fired at him on American children's shows for literal generations by the time Pokémon got in on the action.
@@FrahdChikun They were still airing at the time Pokémon came out, and I'm pretty sure that there isn't any laws preventing guns or crossdressing in G rated shows going by the stuff Disney was putting out at the time.

You can also kind of blame the people defending #10 for making it worse because Streisand Effect. Trying to force a controversy to go away by dismissing every problem and person acknowledging the problem will do anything EXCEPT make it go a way. It's like vigilante firefighters mistaking a bucket of oil for water when trying to fight a fire. Also, someone brought up an interesting effect of new games having a "honeymoon period" before more people are forced to notice the problems in a subsequent playthrough, or new people playing the game once the hype died down. The same people claiming "it's not that bad" might later down the line begin to feel "it's not that good".
#2- I remember my local Catholic Church actually banned Pokemon cards and games on its grounds and their Sunday school actually taught that Pikachu was Satanic due to the shape of its ears lol. Predictably this didn't make it very popular among the neighborhood kids.
3:10- To be fair, a small portion of that success stems from many of these people not understanding what boycott means. Many of them bought the game so they could badmouth it and classified that as boycotting.
You can't really attribute "most of that success" to bad faith arguments. A home console main series Pokemon game was going to sell like hot cakes regardless of how the game turned out. And surprise, the games reviewed well in addition to selling like hot cakes.
@@cartooncritic7045 The only real question is how successful it will be relative to past core Pokemon games, and whether future games will face diminishing returns or not.
For me, I successfully boycotted by not getting the game. Plus those negative user reviews on Metacritic really show how much damage these decisions did. I didn't review it (cause I don't own the game, and wouldn't want to rate something I didn't play), but I will still look at the game and find points to criticise about it from an outside perspective.
@@BigFearedBalloon The problem with Metacritic user reviews is that it's way too easy to give a game that is, at worst, a 7/10 a 1 just out of spite; conversely, people who are really caught up in the hype cycle might rate that 7/10 game a 9 or higher because out of pure excitement. That's is why I don't put any actual stock in user reviews of something I might be interested in, and prefer to hold out on opinions until I have experienced this stuff for myself. From my own perspective, anything negative about the game that I've seen doesn't really affect my enjoyment of Pokemon in such a way that I would ever rate it lower than a 6 or 7.
I can agree with that point, but when you get flooded with Negative Reviews, either way, that is either some trolls who hate a good game (for whatever reason), reviewbombing it due to another game being awful (Fallout 76 comes to mind, plus they blocked reviews, so they review bombed elsewhere to send the message), or review bomb the game due to not living up to expectations or being betrayed by it. If it's the last one, then you messed up big time. At minimum this does show a huge discontent that people have with Pokémon right now.
"Simply Being So Popular, That People Want To See Pokemon Crash and Burn...Hey That's Not Such A Bad Idea For The Next Pokemon Games." I probably shouldn't have laughed, but I did lol! 😂😂😂
The pokeball burger king one is suspicious as, having owned one as a kid, it is nearly impossible to get an air tight seal on most of the skin that isn't a breathing orifice. The claim that a child could breathe in and create a vacuum that would eventually cause suffocation only makes sense if you think air disappears after breathing in, when in fact it is in the lungs and thus any pressure caused by breathing in will be counteracted by breathing out thus releasing the pokeball from the face. But as there were deaths involved in this that does leave one other solution, the parents did it. This unfortunately isn't an uncommon occurance as nearly 100% of tainted or tampered with candy on Halloween comes from a family member, and most kidnappings are committed by someone close to the child. But in a close system you can't remove air without a place for it to go, thus no permanent vacuum could be made unless caused by an outside source.
I don't know, my parents let me play Pokémon and watch the Anime and all that jazz and I don't have any desire to become a Satan-Worshipper. In fact, if anything, I would say that I am still a good Christian boy to this day.
Been with the series since the beginning. Its why I'm so mad at the last games: I've seen the series improve and get better with each installment... Until it began going downhill, focusing more on gimmicky shit rather than continuing to improve the games. But at least, that's my opinion. If you still are enjoying the newer games, am glad fer ya.
Imagine that the dexit would have been divided in the two games. For the first time in the whole franchise it would have had sense to be two of the same game sold as a premise. You could have all of the removed Pokémon in the other version. They could have obligated people to buy the two versions.
That would have taken too much time, Pokemon needs to be out before christmas unfortunatly :/ But hey, why be consumer friendly, when people are going to buy your product anyways?
I was raised in a Christian family that was against Pokemon and the reason my mom always gave was that she thought the pokemon themselves were little demons. They're pocket monsters and some extremist Christian televangelist went off on tv about how something in the Japanese text equauted pokemon to demons. She was never extremist herself but has always believed it and still does even when I've shown her proof. I love her dearly but it was so frustrating growing up in the 90s and early 2000s missing out on the biggest culture phenomenon ever because of Christian scare tactics. She was even reluctant to let me play smash bros games because of Pikachu on the cover. I got away with those by saying I'd never actually select him as my character.
Honestly, if there's one good thing that came out of the whole Dexit controversy, it's that it really showed just how extreme this fanbase can get. Seriously, raging and lashing out at everyone and organizing a boycott for these games (do you all know what franchise we're talking about here?) won't help your cause and solve anything, neither kissing Masuda and GameFreak's ass constantly and calling any and all forms of criticism as "being entitled" and to stick it to the haters or something. This was by far the worst hype, leak and release season and I can already see the second tsunami coming at the horizon with next year's Diamond and Pearl remakes.
It was actually kind of brilliant, because controversy can be the best kind of marketing sometimes. It's kind of unfortunate that Game Freak now knows that they can just do the same thing over and over and over again and people will still buy because of the name :/
Nevertheless the pokemon fanbase did look bad and its going to take some serious time for it to recover. Theres a diffrence of providing criticim and sending death threats and false rape accusations (this whole situation is infamous)

I’m not torn up over the lack of National Dex, the series has gotten to a point to where the games won’t be able to include everyone at once, but also, the Pokémon that are appearing are definitely giving their respective gens decent representation, and are some of the more versatile ones in their respective games.
I'd be ok with it if they improve the games significantly but nope they got to meet our annual release quota. The annual releases are killing the series. We haven't a decent post game in years and I dont see the games improving any time soon
@@weregretohio7728 yeah the vid said that. I knew he sued the but didn't know it went anywhere and especially didn't know it was going on today that's crazy.
It's not just about the National Dex, though. It's that they lied about their reasons for doing so, namely improving the animations and performance, which are, at best, on par with the 3DS games. On the Switch. So, not up to standards, I'd say. Not to mention they removed a lot of features as well, like Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves, which gave depth to competitive meta, as well as the post game being the worst it's been since Gen 1. I love Pokémon, but I don't love GameFreak so much anymore.
The animations and performance are absolutely better than the 3DS games so long as you don't nitpick a small handful that are a little lackluster, the only time it really has a chance to suffer is when you turn online on, and let's not pretend Pokemon is the Nintendo franchise with online issues when Smash Bros. exists. Not to mention Mega Evolution and Z-Moves were always intended to be exclusive to those generations. And several of the Pokémon with Mega Evos are gone anyway, so it would just feel incomplete if they tried to implement it. And the post-game is on par with most games. If you want a truly dismal post-game, go back to X & Y, or even the original Ruby and Sapphire (and Emerald too tbh because much of the Battle Frontier is tedious, unfun garbage)
@@MiyaoMeow588 Did you just say Emerald had dismal post-game? Seriously, how can you not like the Battle Frontier? It's a marathon of difficult battles with different rules between the different areas. It's the best post-game a Pokémon game can offer.

@@SkorpTS Most Pokemon post-games really just consist of those very Battle Facilities that have been mainstays since Gen 3, and that's really all that they have going for them outside of filling the PokeDex, which is mostly just a completion thing. I value that over the Battle Facilities way more. I haven't played SwSh for myself yet so I don't really know how good or bad its post-game actually is. rabbidluigi I remember seeing an episode of the Simpson's when I was a kid where they go to Japan and start watching TV and find an anime show called "Seizure Robot" and of course they all start having seizure's, but at the time I didn't know what they were referring to lol.
I'm pretty sure at the time of the Porygon episode, no one knew that flashing lights shown in rapid succession could cause seizures, so it was a huge shock when it did and no one at the time saw it coming, hence why none of the animators noticed it and pulled the plug on it. It was only after that episode that ppl put warning of flashing lights.
At least one source suggests the first recorded case of photosensitive epilepsy was in 1981, but evidence seems to suggest Porygon was the first time the two were linked (meaning that before then the 1981 seizure had no apparent cause beyond the sufferer playing a video game at the time, like how the NOAA Upsweep sounds like tectonic activity where the Antarctic/Pacific plate boundary changes type but that's all we know)
That's the story, but the imagery is based off of US based black-face which Japan adopted later on. It is entirely a racist image to have the black face and balloon style mouth.

BJGvideos yes I vicious getting shocked by pikachu has a white screen and yellow lighting is very similar to the proygon episode

@@SakuraAvalon Usually, in these circumstances, the oldest card necessary for a combo is banned. "In Japan, Jynx is understood to be a cheap shot at ganguro, a fashion trend that involves gaudy clothes, unusual amounts of makeup, and bleach blond hair. According to the stories, Yama-uba lives alone in the icy mountains and lures wayward travelers into her cabin to devour them. Jynx's unusual Ice/Psychic typing really only makes sense once you understand the "flesh devouring mountain witch" connection."

@@goroakechi6126 The movie itself didn't have an epilepsy warning. Theaters had to hang signs to warn people. Not every theater put them up on release, so there were reports of people going to see the movie and getting hospitalized cause they didn't know.

GameFreak is too set in their ways. They've made mostly handle games for decades, so I doubt they can process how to do home console games.

Number 1: They should of just edited the episode instead of banning it entirely. Why can't they just go back in and put in different lighting effects instead?
4kids are known for there laziness for that stuff and put time into getting rid of rouge the bat's boobs.

THANK YOU!!
So many people thin we're all like that. I'm a Christian and Pokemon is My favorite Video Game by FAR!!!!!!!!

To me the whole jinx thing just seemed like people wanting something to complain about
I would love to spearhead a mass movement against Uri Gellar
I don't know, my parents let me play Pokémon and watch the Anime and all that jazz and I don't have any desire to become a Satan-Worshipper.
In fact, if anything, I would say that I am still a good Christian boy to this day.
Jinx and it's pre-evolution are based on the Japanese mythical creatures Yamauba and Yuki-onna and the lore surrounding them.
3:28 I actually do remember Uri Geller, I named my Abra after him!
@@nobodyinparticular9640 god, shut the hell up. He wasn't even talking about sw/sh. Also, abra isn't on those games at this comment's time.

Imagine that the dexit would have been divided in the two games. For the first time in the whole franchise it would have had sense to be two of the same game sold as a premise. You could have all of the removed Pokémon in the other version. They could have obligated people to buy the two versions.
That would have taken too much time, Pokemon needs to be out before christmas unfortunatly :/
But hey, why be consumer friendly, when people are going to buy your product anyways?
@@JackOfen
Assuming GameFreak is like EA, Activision, and Bethesda.

I had a similar Issue based on #2. Where one of my Fundamentalist Aunts did not allow Her Children to play Pokemon. She never explain why but I can assume that she believed pokemon were demonically evil and teach children the wrong things. It's No surprise really. Some christian are crazy, and that's why I became Agnostic, not atheist, big difference.

I’m a Christian, and my family LOVES Pokémon! I find that controversy very surprising since I know many other Christian families who allow their children to play and own Pokémon merchandise.

Gene Simons: It is truly an honour! Thank you!
I’m not torn up over the lack of National Dex, the series has gotten to a point to where the games won’t be able to include everyone at once, but also, the Pokémon that are appearing are definitely giving their respective gens decent representation, and are some of the more versatile ones in their respective games.
And then you have bullshit like Stunfisk and including only the charred fart line from older starters.
I'd be ok with it if they improve the games significantly but nope they got to meet our annual release quota. The annual releases are killing the series. We haven't a decent post game in years and I dont see the games improving any time soon
Yeah... Made a lot of sense for GF to remove all the memorable starters and legendaries for worthless Pokemon like stunkfish or another Meowth.
@@clerkinator1304 I don't know what YOU consider decent, but I like Gen 6 and 7 (except that flying is reduced to using the charred fart).
The "boycott" was the most useless thing ever
They only targeted people who already weren't going to buy the game
Wtf I didn't know the uri Geller case was still ongoing wtf.
The card game still hasn't had a new Kadabra card, as far as I know.
@@weregretohio7728 yeah the vid said that. I knew he sued the but didn't know it went anywhere and especially didn't know it was going on today that's crazy.
Fun fact about the whole Kadabra thing. It's the only pokemon that the Everstone has no effect over. Seemingly due to the Uri Geller controversy.
@@SkorpTS well first off the Battle Pike and the Battle Palace are garbage, second of all having to achieve multiple winning streaks for multiple facilities is not fun or even very difficult, it's tedious and monotonous and doesn't actually get you anything other than more BP to spend on only a small handful of items that are actually worth it.
@@SkorpTS Most Pokemon post-games really just consist of those very Battle Facilities that have been mainstays since Gen 3, and that's really all that they have going for them outside of filling the PokeDex, which is mostly just a completion thing. At least the Gens post-Hoenn added story scenarios for the post-game that actually somewhat contribute to the world-building and character development for certain supporting characters. I value that over the Battle Facilities way more.
I haven't played SwSh for myself yet so I don't really know how good or bad its post-game actually is. All I know is that if you're playing Pokemon specifically for the post-game content, I feel like you've been missing the point of these 30+ hour-long JRPGs for more than 20 years.
The flashing light thing was the result of a poor understanding and appreciation for the dangers of flashing lights at the time. Even now people don't fully appreciate the danger it could be to some people, every holloween I see those bright flashing lights on at least 2 or 4 peoples porchs. None of it is done with bad intent, just a lack of awareness.
"When some battle animations were a little lackluster."
Oh, and when the 320-ish returning Pokemon had the majority of their animations ripped wholesale from the 3DS games and Let's Go (which in of itself ripped the majority of it's roster's animations wholesale from the 3DS games). Y'know, that's a small part of it too.
along with gamefreak lying about creating new models and good animations

rabbidluigi I remember seeing an episode of the Simpson's when I was a kid where they go to Japan and start watching TV and find an anime show called "Seizure Robot" and of course they all start having seizure's, but at the time I didn't know what they were referring to lol.
At least one source suggests the first recorded case of photosensitive epilepsy was in 1981, but evidence seems to suggest Porygon was the first time the two were linked (meaning that before then the 1981 seizure had no apparent cause beyond the sufferer playing a video game at the time, like how the NOAA Upsweep sounds like tectonic activity where the Antarctic/Pacific plate boundary changes type but that's all we know)
Jynx is actually based off of a Japanese legend, there's a woman that was a shadowed woman that ate people, I think...
